Description

A trig station on Iluka Reservoir

A trig station in the village of Iluka. It is located about 1 km SE of the Post Office. TS7291

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Travelling back to Sydney from a trip to K’Gari for a week It would have been a crime for me not to stop and grab some trig stations in some of the amazing beach towns on the way through. They definitely did not disappoint me and made for a very enjoyable couple of days.
Iluka is a nice place and today was a stunning day for a short walk up to the lookout. I think it is warm enough for a quick swim before getting back on the road

Clan MinotaurClan MinotaurClan Minotaur one of several trigs we found whilst exploring the area Clan MinotaurClan MinotaurClan Minotaur

Out for a morning stroll in the world heritage rainforest nearby and noticed I hadn't found this trig, so naturally...

I was going to snap a closer photo but a guy wandered up from a different direction around the same time as me and sat directly below it. How rude! Haha.

I recall 2 years and 11 months ago driving south with my dog and wanting to take a morning stroll in the rainforest here but couldn't with the dog. Was nice to achieve it today although I felt like the decaying greenery was suffocating me rather than filling my lungs with life, so I'm about to head to the beach.

This was the last cache before we headed to the hotel. I snapped from the 'gate' TFTT

The kids and I took our bikes across on the ferry from Yamba this morning, and pedalled up. There is a great cycle/walk way all along the foreshore. We had no problem finding the trig, and decided this was a great spot to try out the drone for trig pics. We could see the trig itself clearly here, but the drone should be awesome for those where you can't see the trig until you get a mile away.... it even makes this humble reservoir trig look quite spectacular!

Took me a few goes to find the right access. There is an easy track at the end of one of the streets. It takes you directly to the trig.

Don't remember ever visiting Iluka before but we probably have!!!!
Our GPS didn't know how to get to this one so after a few false starts we abandoned it and after a tour of Iluka managed to find a road that took us right to GZ.
Figured there had to be a way to it if it was on a water tower.
Thanks.

The second trig in Iluka - not quite a scenic as the last one, but a trig nonetheless.

Got here about 0150 in the morning, but realised that even with the full moon I wouldn't be able to get a suitable photo, so put the seat back in the car and had a snooze. Woke up at 0830, and then sorted a few things out, and took my photos at 0840. Another easy find, and missed out by two day another Unloved trig. That is fine.

Sometimes while getting these sorts of trigs I think people aren't even trying anymore. These are to easy. Then I remember that their primary purpose isn't for geocaches and that geocachers aren't the ones "hiding" these. Oh week another drive by ticked off. To think after 15yrs of living here I wasn't even aware of this trigs existence

Noted comment that coordinates are out, checked on map, they are...
GPS must have had a bad day...fixed coordinates.

Drove around to Iluka today from Yamba. Gpsr was trying to take me on roads that did not exist so I found the GZ myself. The family had caught the ferry over and I drove over to pick them up.

Parked in a nearby street and bush bashed through mozzies infested spikey vine bush and up a steep embankment to find, A ROAD right to it. Damn, need to read previous logs in future.

Another trig in my list of NSW trigs not in the GCA listing. Found easily enough in Iluka, once I worked out what road to access it by...
