Taber TS5929

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Taber.

Serial number is: TS5929.

Last Inspected on: August 19, 1977.

Elevation is: 204 metres.

This Trig has suffered from bush fires many years ago, the plastic mast has been partly burnt and softened by the heat bringing the collapse of the vanes, but these are still attached to the pillar.

There is even the remains of the original Cairn Trig next to the more recent concrete one.

Today's bushwalk was focused on locating some of the aboriginal art in the region but it's always a bonus to log a trig along the way. After exploring the area near the trig we decided to continue on in the direction of Cottage Point, following the ridge. Some of this area is pretty tough going! After crossing the creek leading to Pratt Bay we climbed up to the road and walked back to the car. The trig itself is certainly not that exciting but it was a good morning.

Finding this trig reminded me that I had visited it a couple of years ago and forgot to log it. It was still a surprise to see it as you come upon it suddenly a little way along the track from the power company access road. It's like a sentinel beside the track. The forlorn pile of rocks that was once the imposing original Taber trig are right next door. There are lots of surprises in the bush in this area and plenty of reminders of the original inhabitants and evidence of the effect of Europeans on the landscape.

Today I visited 6 trigs collecting over 13 years of unloved days. This was the fourth and my hundredth GCA cache - YAY! Was happy to find a nice track leading to trig. Interesting to find new and old here.

In the area doing GCs and it was a beaut day for bushwalks. This is the third fire-affected trig that I've seen. It is surprising that, after the original wooden post trigs, they weren't improved to survive the heat. The original cairn lies, depiled, about 3m to one side.

After finding Wallaroo trig we decided to head back via Akuna Bay and Cottage Point and couldn't resist this one. Nice to have a track straight to GZ for a change! A mere 180 metres from the road. I walked straight past it but geoboy had the GPSr and found it.

Kind of freaky looking trig - Daliesque you might say with the leopard skin pattern to boot! Liked the remnants of the old cairn adjacent to it. Good to see the plaque still there - I wonder why some have the year placed and others don't.

A good one.

Found this one with him on our big trig hunting expedition and didn't at first know what I was looking at . . . rogerw3 had to explain it to me.

This was one of the biggest surprises of the afternoon and a lot of fun.

Who says trigs can't be exciting? And educational . . .

Still can't get over it . . .

Side name plate was intact and in good shape, and it's all holding together somehow.

Trig find number 7 for the day with pjmpjm. I expected this one to be a lot more difficult to find, was proved wrong when the obvious track took us right to the Trig. But what a surprise! At first I could not figure out what was going on. It was only on closer examination that the bush fire explanation became obvious.
This has to be one of the most memorable Trig I have ever seen!
