Description

Jones TS2636

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Jones.

Serial number is: TS2636.

Last Inspected on: December 8, 2000.

Elevation is: 131 metres.

This trig is part of the EDM testline as per the 1990 Survey Practice Regulations, comprising PM55003 (222.468meters) and Wakehurst trig (430.003 meters). However at the present time it cannot be used as the line of sight is completely overgrown.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Have been nearby so many times on a mountain bike so this time on foot ventured in from the track. More impressive with its top intact.

#GA2610 - 12:55; Day one of the 2018 Oz Geomuster mission with Sol de lune. Today was planned to be an easy day travelling to the Mega site in Morisset via a few dragonZones in the Sydney metropolitan region before getting amongst the Easter traffic heading north along the freeway. After our first stop in Balgowlah, the GPSr had us headed out along a different route than we had originally planned. That saw us passing close to this trig along with a couple of others along the Wakehurst Parkway. Pulled over again and crossed the busy road and followed a much better beaten path through the bush and up to GZ for this one. Grabbed some snaps and headed back to the geomobile headed for the next one on the list. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Day one of an Easter trip with LuckyL10n to the 2018 Morisset Mega. Headed up via the northern beach suburbs of Sydney to grab a few trigs and dragonZones along the way.

No problems with this one and the trig was soon spotted.

Another trig and another dragonZone crossed off. Thanks for the fun....

found with alnic39 on a day caching in Manly & North Head, bit of a job to find the right track for this one and got a photo

tftt. We went the long way around.

I was driving past. The path to the trig is clear as are the sightlines to the nearby PM and Wakehurst trig. Found at 1:34 pm

Interesting to see the sight lines still quite clear. Though not for too much longer. Trig in great condition and a glorious day to be outside.

After doing some work at French's Forest came down the road to find this one. Nice and easy parking, and nice to find a trig that is actually a trig rather than a marker on the ground. Shame it's not much use to anyone these days with all the trees.

16-Nov-11
After seing a snake along the way to the previous trig, this one was easy to get to, and no wildlife either, so I was much happier overall.

21-May-11
A crisp, clear autumn morning - time for a bit of trig hunting! Took the trusty DR and, after finding a GC cache or two, found Jonesy basking in the sun!

11-May-11
Found this Trig with pjmpjm. This is part of the EDM calibrating testline. However this has not been used for a few years as the line of sight to the next target is almost non existent and completely obscured to the next one.
Still a very nice find.

What an attractive trig!

This was the second of my four evening trigs and I couldn't believe it when I approached it through the bush -- appearing to have been freshly painted -- with a bright white pedestal and nice black vanes!

What's going on here? Who's maintaining this old trig surrounded by the bush, off Wakehurst Parkway?

Both the side plaque and the top plate where in good nick too.

Hope the photos show this . . .

I parked alongside Wakehurst Parkway and took the little fire trail in about 50 metres or so, and then the trig is another ten metres or so to the left. Makes quite an impression.

This must be what all our local Sydney trigs looked like back in 1973.

Driving down the Wakehurst Parkway we couldn't pass up the trigs along the way. There's a good parking spot just past it heading south and we stepped onto the popular bike trail. A quick glance up the trail to the left and we spotted the trig! A nice clear track to the top and an intact trig, plaque included.
When I logged it as found I did a "Go to" for the next one and 'Wakehurst' was a mere 430 metres away. I looked in that direction and there it was, along a clear track!
This is a nice trig, well worth the visit. Amazingly we walked from here to Wakehurst and discovered another unlogged trig on the way!
