Description

This trig point appears on the ACTmapi Survey Infrastructure Map and includes the (MC) tag, which identifies it as a trig point.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the centre point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably.

With a chance to collect two souvenirs, The Drovers and I decided on teaming up for a trip to Canberra. This was a great idea as there wasn’t any ‘Magic Marker’ events near us and for me personally to find at least 21 caches for the ‘Winter Solstice’ souvenir. We manly focused on caches which were meant to be quick and easy finds to maximize our numbers for the day. The event was great fun too. Most caches found were quick and easy to find. However, there was a few which took a little longer to find. All found caches were **signed as 'JM&TD'**. We decided on mixing and matching the caches and this means a few revisits for either them or me. They ended up with 28 finds and I ended up with 31 finds plus a couple of DNF’s. TB visit on all found caches. I would like to thank all CO’s of the caches I found and for allowing them to bring the Geocaching community enjoyment. Big Grin TFTE, TFTTP and TFTC’s! Big Grin

#GA5076 - 16:00; A caching mission with Sol de lune and Smittengranny was planned a couple of weeks ago and the day had arrived. We had a heap of GCA caches and trigs along with a smattering of GC caches as well. We had covered Belconnen, Hall, Gungahlin, North Canberra, the foothills of Mt Ainslie and Central Canberra and were now caching southside as the mission draws to a close. This was the last stop for the mission and a very niftily named trig beside a busy road. Great one to wrap up the mission with. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Almost on the roadside. Makes me wonder what this area was like before development. Certainly not high atop a hill...
