Description

This cache is not at the published coords but is very close. Do not be tempted to bush bash directly to it from the main track, it can be done but there is a much easier and pleasant alternative, just take the track at the end of the viaduct and go under just follow the track and your GPSr will do the rest the large cache is right to the side of the track.

Parking is at S33° 45.128' E150° 38.603'.

Just follow the sealed track (It was used as a main road until the M4 opened) all the caches are a short and I do mean short distance off the main track.

The final coords are S33° 45.5AB' E150° 38.4CD'

http://geocaching.com.au/cache/ga9996 will give you "D"

http://geocaching.com.au/cache/ga9997 will give you "C"

http://geocaching.com.au/cache/ga9998 will give you "B"

http://geocaching.com.au/cache/ga9999 will give you "A"

While there do take time to check out the Knapsack Viaduct this started life as part of the Lapstone Zig Zag western train line and was then used as a main road after the Glenbrook deviation.

Please replace all camo rocks carefully as this place gets busy. All the caches are mostly out of sight from the main track but take care.

What a fabulous cache. A target cache to finish the year. After finding all the required numbers in the series, I now had a set of coordinates. I took the advice of the CO and took a wonderful stroll along the track and found myself in an area I'd been to before. I was well and truly beetroot red in the face now and dripping with sweat but finally finding this cache was so worth it. A huge container and so beautifully marked. A great big log book to write about your adventure. Loved everything about it and hidden in true Rogerw3 style.
Thanks for the many caches you've placed over the years. A well deserved winner of this prestigious award.

I had a lovely spontaneous drive down to visit 2 of my daughters on the coast and surprise one of them for a birthday breakfast. In all honesty, it was really an excuse to get outdoors and play because I was getting pretty low and only had 2 midweek days off work. So I knew I was geocaching after breakfast but not where. Thought Mossvale or Goulburn, but in the end the temptation was too great. I'm taking the long way home and finding those cool bridge caches!

As the caches took me a little off the main track, I ended up wandering a bit and exploring the things in the area - old metal junk, graffiti, plants, rocks, creek beds, roadsides, AND EVEN TOILETS (GA9999 appears to also be the local bush toilet location). This meant that from the carpark to GA 10K and back I took much longer than I should... was it really nearly 5 hours?! It was lunch time when I went in thinking I'll eat after, and it was sunset when I came out. hahahaha. And my kids thought I had to hurry back home. No I was just hurrying off to geocache before going home. I got home before midnight at least. hahaha.

Thanks for this geocache series here rogerw3. I thoroughly enjoyed the journey. I did film the adventure, but I haven't been in a film editing mood lately so hopefully I'll get it done soon. Smile

Now I feel justified to get the matching geocoin. Smile

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaah!

So today it was time to come & find this cache. I also had another reason as it’s the last day to claim multi points – being - dragonZone bonus points. To celebrate the upcoming Commonwealth Games, and the running of GeospoprtZ 2018, Geocaching Australia will be offering a dragonZone bonus points period to run for the duration of the Commonwealth Games. From Wednesday April 4 until Sunday April 15, inclusive, there will be a 5x multiplier on all dragonZone points earned for both hiding and finding valid dZ caches. So today being a Sunday morning, it was very busy here as many people were doing the stair way / stair case challenge. As least I had GZ cache location to myself. After a short search, nothing like the caches leading up to this I found a large well-hidden cache. It was a total relief & a very happy to find this one as it is the first large cache found under the dragon zone challenge and it is the last one needed to have the whole cache series found for a trophy. So yes, a multiple of reasons to find this cache. Completed the close by waymarks of the bridge & stair challenge. Well I also completed the challenge to also find the trig up the top of here, which in its own wright is a challenge. Once again thanks for this multi cache and the challenge it gave me. Also, will be recommending this multi as it brings you to some very interesting history of the area & brings you to a very well-made bridge that I have been a passenger in a car many times driven over this bridge. This bridge isn’t going anywhere for the next 100 plus years - TFTC / TFTH / SL Clan Griffin

I found all the numbers, and if you had given the formula with the other caches I could have continued on and found the final cache, but as you didn't I couldn't work out the final and find this. Sad

Found It!
I was passing though Sydney on the way to the mega so I just had to stop for the 10000th GCA cache! So this morning I want for walk along the old road/railway, found the other caches and then wandered over the viaduct to this one. Impressive structure! And some very interesting history to! Certainly a very worthy cache to have as number 10000!

#GA2468 - 12:05; Day one of a caching mission in the Blue Mountains with Sol de lune. After an early start in Canberra, we collected a few of the newer caches along the highway before we reached the foot of the mountains and started the major part of the mission, to collect GCA caches to help us meet some dragonZone trophy requirements. We had a handful already when we reached the convenient parking area for this cache at the start of the 10K series trail. After collecting the cache near the carpark, we set off along the trail, which was on our 'must do' list for this visit. After collecting the information we needed along the way, we took a detour up the hill for a trig, then headed back down to claim this prize. A beaut walk in and a fun trail. Stoked to make a find on this milestone cache Clapping TFTC rogerw3 Very HappyClan Cerberus

Up with LuckyL10n for a 2 day run around the Blue Mountains and this little series was our main objective today. Parked the car at the obvious spot and then started the walk along the trial.

Having seen this cache published, along with the 4 lead in ones, it was great to get the chance to get up to the area to check it out and make the find.

Been up this way a few times for caching, but never along this track, so it was all new territory for me. Had seen the photo of the viaduct on the cache page, but a photo doesn't really do it justice. To stand on top, and then below gives you an impression of the size.

After looking around for a while we then head towards the GZ and after a short search, we had the magical cache number in hand. Great effort on the cache container, you certainly know what you've found when you do.

We stayed around the area for a while, taking even more photos and exploring over towards the highway. That was a different perspective as well.

As usual, time was now against us and it was time to head back towards the car...although we did manage a nearby trig as well.

Thanks RogerW3 for a neat little series and neat area for the cache. Couple of photos attached.... Very HappyVery HappyClappingClappingDancingDancingClan Cerberus

Recommended? Absolutely.

With all the clues collected, we sat just before the bridge and worked out the final coords. Headed off and made our way to GZ. Again had GPS problems but after reading it was a large container we were able to locate the cache. Signed log and returned as found. TFTC rogerw3. We really enjoyed this multi

Logging this made me realise that I haven't logged the two I found with geodad at the beginning of the holidays. This was a great spot. What a cool bridge!

It was a very short walk from the car parked at the top...and it was an even shorter walk down to the cache. It was so big!!!!

Found with the kids in a three-step process. Find 1-4 with the kids (mostly), lose the info and have the CO graciously send them to me, then find the final with the kids a week or so later. Neither of them had seen this bridge from below. It's magnificent. This is why we geocache.

Had a really great outing this afternoon in the lower Blue Mountains today, tracking down rogerw3's 10K series of caches, one by one! And this one was the highlight . . . the ginormous conclusion of the search for all of the 10K series . . . the official 10,000th GCA geocache! And . . . wow! . . . it was worth the effort!

Found without any serious problems in a suitable spacious hiding place, and all was well with the container. Lots of swaps left for future finders. You won't be disappointed!

TNLNSL.

Many thanks to rogerw3 for a great hide and a great GCA series! Five 'Thumbs Up' for the entire series. Hope others will make the effort and enjoy a fun and not-really-too-hard adventure in a nice bushy (and historic) Blue Mountains location.

Yay, we found it!!! So great to tick of this milestone cache off. It was a great day for it, kids were super pleased to find an excellent sized cache (swapping ensued), and we were revisited by the man we'd met earlier asking "did you find what you were looking for?" and it's always satisfying to say yes.

Thanks rogerw3 for bringing us to this interesting historical location and for making the 10,000th GCA cache such a ripper. And best of all, the first Clan Cerberus points to help get our clan started.

It was a beautiful day on which ziggiay, MrSmash, DingoMan007, HanorahTLG and signed undertook the quest to capture the 10,000th cache. But before that we needed to find the clues!

And yes, this one was found too. I forgot to write about the man we encountered at the previous one who explained some history of the railroad line. We met him here again and while trying to explain him about geocaching he said it was too difficult for him. Still had a great time.

HanorahTLG was wondering why they did build the bridges with sandstone as it is very easily to crumble it by our fingers. It's a question which will have to be answered by others.

Thanks for the series rogerw3, really appreciated!

With all the numbers needed for calculating the coordinates for the final loction we soon were on our way. After having encountered noone we now met several walking parties.we let them go by as we took photos before taking the path down under the viaduct and up the other side. What an imposing structure, so much more character than the modern concrete and steel structures.

Several walkers went by before we moved off the main track onto the smaller, less used side track. We soon found ourselves at gz with an extra big cache at our feet. What a thrill to sign the log of this cache. The cache and contents were in excellent condition. We took care to rehide the cache as found.

Thanks Rogerw3 for an outstanding cache and location most fitting for the 10000th GCA cache. A wonderful caching experience.

I now had the 4 numbers required for the final I inputted them into the GPSr and headed off to GZ. Came to Knapsack Bridge and onto the steps. I have been here a number of time in the last couple of years caching & here I was again after a final. Still I was by myself but at 20 metres away came across a couple having a rest & something to eat so kept on going to GZ spotted the hide as I was getting close. Checked that I couldn't see anyone before I extracted the cache from it's hide. Great container. On opening checked the contents before I signed the log. This series was worthy of the 10000 GA cache. Signed the log and replaced as found. Thanks for the cache and series rogerw3. Bothe the cache & the log were in great condition.

After an early visit to a friend in Nepean hospital it was then off to the parking at the end of Old Bathurst Road for a walk along the path to collect the 4 needed caches for info in order to get to GZ of the 5th and final cache of this series.
On a cooler overcast sort of day each cache was found in turn until arriving at the viaduct where the gathered numbers were entered for the fifth and final cache.
Following the hint it was follow the designated path for a short walk to GZ. It was found not far off the track, retrieved and the log signed.
thanks Roger for the series an enjoyable walk without too many muggles around - I know it can be quite busy through here at times.

Met up with Team Merlin today to make a claim for the cache GA10000.
Gathering all the information needed calculations were determined. Making our way to GZ.
The very large container was found straight away. After signing as a joint FTF
we returned as found.

Well done for the honour of the 10000 cache

Now that I had the numbers I needed to find GCA Cache 10000.
Down the path, under the viaduct and round the bend and the GZ was in sight.
A great little spot to find a cache.

Thanks for bringing me to this location.
Great job on the 10,000th cache and the four leading up to it

Great job

Being out at Kingswood for work today, we organised to meet up with JJCC this afternoon for a walk to the viaduct with our main target being GA10000. After collecting the needed numbers from the four traditional caches 10K 1-4 on the way in, we made the necessary calculations from the top of the viaduct.

We followed the track down, under the viaduct, then out to GZ. The massive container was quickly located and retrieved from behind its camo - a fantastic location and one worthy of GA10000. After signing as a joint FTF we replaced as found.

Thanks rogerw3 for this series and congratulations on cache 10K
