Logs

19-Jul-18
In Parramatta today. Had to grab this cache. Although a little hard to photograph.

03-Jan-17
You can just see the top of the disc in the first pic. Bit grainy, as my SLR had battery issues today. A second picture from the other side of Parramatta is included.

02-Oct-16
I was taken to a restaurant for lunch, just down the road, so dashed out to photograph this trig. The trig must be photographed from a little distance to see it poking above its building.

10-Apr-16
Next trig along my planned area for the day.....very quiet on a Sunday morning.

09-Feb-16
had a look for this one on a previous visit to Parramatta but unable to spot from a street view. After reading logs of other finders on today's visit to Parramatta I took along my camera with telephoto lens. Like others before me I ventured to the top level of the Westfield's carpark and took a zoomed happy snap which clearly shows the trig point.

18-Nov-15
I thought I'd be real lucky doing training at Police HQ the last few weeks but sadly fingerprints is only on one of the lower floors. So while I could look at the HSBC building I wasn't high enough to spot the trig. Like others I climbed to the top of the Westfields car park and fit the best zoom shot I could. It was about 35° and I felt cooked just walking here so I didn't hang around long to admire the view, but it's pretty good!

Found it while in Parramatta. Took the photo with my GPSr as didn't have my camera on me.

27-Aug-11
As suggested by rogerw3, I too parked on the second highest and walked to the top of the Westfield Shoppingtown building.

I could see the round disk of the trig quite clearly with my eyes, on top of the Council Building.

Will the photo turn out? We shall see!?!

15-Aug-11
Took a slight detour on the wat to work to find this one. walking down Church Street, I eventually spotted it from a distance. A long way away. Managed to get a picture of it with the Droid. Would be nice to see it up close.

02-Aug-11
As suggested by rogerw3, I parked right on top of the Westfield Shoppingtown building, in the highest car park.

But I forgot that rogerw3 has a great camera with a telephoto lens!

My distant iPhone photo isn't going to be as good as I would have liked . . .

Nevertheless, I could see the round disk of the trig quite clearly with my naked eyes, old though they may be, perched on top of the Council Building.

The hard part of these trigs is getting a good pic, not finding them,
and I can't really claim to have acheived good pics very often, but at least I try
NUP - not the trig, I got that lightning ball, so no find for me today!
Well, a couple of months later (Aug) I got around to transferring the pic to my PC, and realised U had got the Tig disc in the pic after all,
so swapping from a npoted to a found, and adding the pic after all (with marker to show the poorly-focused disc.

Dancing
This time I found it, the real thing. No doubt this time, you can get a decent photo from the corner of Church Street and George Street, but if you want to go to the top level of the Westfield car park you will get an even better shot, even if a bit further away.
Thanks Toriaz for putting me on the right track.

Following on from rogerw3 and richary, it does indeed seem that Toriaz has successfully photographed the trig and got enough of it in the shot to make it clear that we're looking at the usual black vanes. Will try to get down to Parramatta myself soon. Shame about the amazing space-age 'lightning rod' -- it's actually much prettier than the trig vanes!

15-Jun-11
Found this one on a rainy day, very easily visible from the street along Macquarie Street from near the school, alternatively you get a great view from platform 1 or 2-3 on Parramatta station.
Having said that I have my doubt that it is the trig, it looks more like a typical lightning rod to me.
Since the trig was on the original building housing the Prospect Council I suspect that it was lost when the building was demolished and never replaced on top of the new building.

Changed this from a find as this is not the trig, as per the photos from Toriaz the trig can indeed be seen and photographed from the street, I will be back.

I managed to just spot this one from street level today, so it is possible to see from some angles. I didn't have time to try from other sides to see if the view was any better, but I suspect that the side where I was is the best street view. I took 3 photos. The first is from the end of Hunter Street, near the church, the second is from the Church Street mall, and the last is from next to Town Hall.

All that is really visible in the photos is the black vanes from the top of the trig.

Edit: had more time to walk on Friday, so I walked around this one from all sides to see if I could spot it. My first guess was correct, you can't really see it from the other sides. Hunter Street & certain spots in the Church St. mall are where you need to go.

*FTF* but I'm not sure if it should remain on the list. It's on top of the Deloitte Touche Tomatsu building and will not be visible from ground level. I could just see the top of the trig from the 10th floor of the nearby Parramatta Council Admin building. Basically you will need to have access to one of Parramatta's high-rises to see this one.

Unfortunately the camera focus got confused by shooting through the glass, next time I have to go on the roof of this building will get a better shot.
