Description

Maroubra TS10736

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Maroubra.

Serial number is: TS10736.

Last Inspected on: April 10, 1981.

Elevation is: 25 metres

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

That's one well placed trig with views into Maroubra and Coogee and standing up on high like it should be there, and it should! Fabulous views, even with threatening dark clouds approaching.

1758, Now well and truly 'on my way home', even if it is a bit circuitous. Not too far to walk, once you have a parking spot. Lots of people enjoying the great day and the holidays. A rather sturdy concrete pad/base for the pedestal to sit on, making it seem to be a bit taller than the average NSW trig. The working part has the black plastic cap held by three screws. No nameplate seen.

#GA529 - 11:30; I was in Sydney on a day trip with the geohoney, who had an appointment nearby. We were a little early and decided to drop by Maroubra for a quick look around and perhaps a spot of lunch. The lunch bell hadn't rung yet, so a spot of caching was in order to build an appetite. I found it quite incredible that this cache has been unfound since 2011, particularly given the spectacular views at GZ! That's more than 3 years and not far short of four! I hope that improves soon Think TFTC Geocaching Australia DancingClan Cerberus

Third day of trigging, another 12km walk 4 of 4 finds. My last find of the day. An easy one this one it stands out on the rocks in the reserve. Quite visible from the road. The mast and vanes have long gone as has the name plaque.

Easy to spot - it sticks out like a proverbial thumb (which I guess is a good thing for a trig station).

17-Nov-09
An easy one to find and claim a FTF - right on the coast, with swimming just below - worth a visit!
