Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station and photograph the GZ.

Official Code: TS3882

Official Name: Red Hill

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

This is another concrete pedestal, with post, black semi-circular vanes, and intact nameplate: declaring - RED HILL T.S. 1972

After 'sleeping over' at Allandale trig I then came on to check out this trig on top of a hill above a vineyard.
A track goes almost all of the way from a locked gate. Nobody at home, and the trig is well within sight there.
On and up, and past a small mob of kangaroos.
Another white-painted concrete pedestal, with plastic post and black, semi-circular vanes. Even with TWO plates embedded on the post. The top one states: CENTRAL MAPPING AUTHORITY GEODETIC STATION; with the lower one saying - RED HILL T.S.
Took a few photos, and went to recheck with the possible owners, but still nobody at home.

This had been an Archived earlier listing for Razorback, which became duplicated in 2014. Now an achievable trig in the Hunter Valley. Called "Red Hill TS".

24-Sep-09
This trig point is located next to government radio towers (refer this page for info: http://www.pnc.com.au/~richo/grn.htm).

I stopped on Old Razorback Rd to see if I could get to the top of this particular hill some years back, as Mt Prudhoe is thought to be the Pyramid Hill written about by Watkin Tench, but the sign on the gate says no entry.

24/09/09. - I went back today and checked the access again. There is still a locked gate on Old Razorback Rd and the only other way along Fores (? spelling) Way has a "residents only" access sign.

Best to archive this one as there does not appear to be a legal way to log it. If someone knows of a legal way to get to this trig then please feel free to un-archive the cache with an explanation of how to get to it.

Cheers,
Michael.
