Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

We were meandering from Queenscliff to Port Fairy and needed a cuppa so turned off to Mt Laura. Wonderful view from the top. We found the traditional cache a couple of hundred meters down and off the walking track too, but it is a rather steep climb back. Smile

*Found whilst cleaning up the area of a few local caches*

Apologies for the **LATE** log - *Sometimes life just gets in the way Wink Between house renos, COVID and life in general I'm just catching up on some late logs*

Heading to Warrnambool to catch up with my folks grabbing some Caches & Waymarks along the way. Had been up here before I discovered GCA Brick Wall but the views were worth coming back for Cool

Thanks for the Trig Point. Appreciate your efforts. Big Grin

#GA1974 - 15:35; Day five of a caching mission to Victoria with Sol de lune. The plan for today was to head south through Beaufort to Penshurst, Port Fairy and Warnambool, before heading back via Camperdown and Lismore to Creswick caching all the way. We were heading back for home base when we dropped into Camperdown where we headed for the top of the nearest hill for another trig. It reminded us of our first stop for the day at Mount Rouse as we reached the summit to be greeted by a biting westerly. Undeterred, we headed for the trig to get a close up and to take in the panoramic views from up here. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Another great little hill with a trig....but the views are what makes this one so good. Certainly worth the short detour and drive up to the top.

Any cachers passing the area should certainly stop for this one.

Thanks for the trig.

Travelling and caching on our way home after the Surf Coast Event. Came up for the earthcache and found the trig as well. No surprises there'd be a trig here, fabulous 360 degree views.

The MajuraHathi party drove up Mt Leura and enjoyed the 360 deg views. I was a regular visitor here in my youth with family here so it was absolutely great to be back and find this cache. Very Happy This is one of the easier trigs, almost a drive by and that was appreciated too. As we left is started raining lightly so into the bakery in Manifold St. Cool

A nice spot to enjoy the views.

This was our last find while on the way home from a weekend of bushwalking down at Port Fairy. The cluster of 3 here was perfect incentive to drive up for the views and we had the pickie at 15:55 to finish off the trio.

The views across the western districts, not to mention the crater itself, were something special. Dancing

Thanks Geocaching Australia.

Found with GrimRaider when we came up to do The Leura Maar earth cache. Saw the trig and took a photo in case it was a GCA Trig. Yes, and a beauty too. So much to see up here.

20-Sep-12
Edited to a 1/1 as you cant miss it and it is wheelchair accessible.

What an awesome place! Not only is it a 4-for-1 with a Trig, Munzee, Trad and Earth Cache within a short walk of each other it offers amazing 360 degree views of the area and a chance to see some pretty unique geological features for Australia. Amazing views and I had it all to myself which was tops. A nice old proper Trig with easy access.

Top Trig. Worth a Visit

We decided to do this cache in conjunction with the nearby Earth cache. It felt like it was -10 with the wind chill and ready to snow this evening. What a wonderful view of the surrounding area. Thank you for bringing us here.

23-Jan-10
Superb views over the rolling volcanic hills and the town, the setting sun creating a mesmerisingly dramatic landscape of golden light and shadows in the craters. Bunch of muggles up here playing with homemade flying whizzing aircraft out on the ridge, which was also quite impressive to watch.

18-Jan-10
On our way from Echuca to Warrnambool and beyond for a few days post Christmas break.
Although Camperdown is not on the most direct path, we detoured just so we could have a look from the top of the hill.

29-Nov-09
Marshall's Geelong found this cache today, While we were on a fishing trip to the Camperdown Angling Club, Lake Bullen Meri had a Blue-green algae bloom at the time but we still caught 2 Rainbow trout.
The trig point is a easy 1 min walk from the Mount Leura carpark.
