We called in here on the way back from Melbourne in Skippy's patrol. No problems with the track at all however the recent fires have destroyed the cache. We decided we would claim a find as we found the remains. They consisted of the metal shaft of a screwdriver, spiral binding from the logbook, pencil sharpener blade, the pencils lead and some blue dust! See photo.
Unfortunately we didn't have a spare cache to resurect it, plus there's not a lot of camo cover left in the area either Sad
Cheers

Just a note to say that I tried to get this one in my AWD via the Salt Lake Track. About half way there I experienced some problems in a very sandy streatch of track. I got out OK, and then got right out of there quickly! Perhaps the track has been effected by vehicles fighting the fires, but high clearance and low ratio are definitely needed on that track.

Found after a quick look around dodging the flies in the midday heat. Nice walk around the lake and then back into the bus for a more northerly trip through the desert..

Thanks for the cache

Had to rush the log as there was a convoy waiting for me on the other side of the "lake". Tripped over rather badly before I got back and had to miss the next days 4WDing - Bugger. TFTC

Hate to mention that there isn't actually any real spinifex but thats OK. After walking all morning from the Kiata campsite we weren't about to leave the Diabetes TB behind! It was only lunch time & yet we had some K's to cover before we would make it through to the Yellow gum campsite for the night. The wild flowers were just stunning & the old camera was running hot all day. Cache in great shape & I loved the hiding spot.

Having read a few descriptions of Derringer caches, it was nice to be able to get one even if it was a drive by for me until the last bit. If coming from the western side of the park I would recommend against the Old Nhill Road unless you want some new badges of honour down the side of the 4WD! Pretty soft in places even with the tyres at 16. Took a figurine, left a party popper and some rubber bands. Thanks Derringer.

Found by Roma and Max.
For this search, our Honda had to be brought into service as the mode of transport to GZ.
Roma 'graciously' volunteered to remain in the Mazda to man the radio this time!
Round trip took 90 minutes with a find and log at the nearby cache on the way in.
We left the usual Mondo Figurine and took a Mills & Boon Bear.
Thanks Derringer, it was very satisfying to manage this one of yours, as there are many we are now not capable of getting to.

Found @ 13:30
What a wonderful site. The 4wd Cruiser got us to the car park easily enough, then the walk around the lake, crunch crunch on the salty crust.

T: Anti War Mondo
L: Yellow Car, yellow Screwdriver and a ball.

Thanks Derringer for the cache,

We may have introduced a few people to Geocaching by finding this one. Was out on a drive with a group of 5 4x4`s on a camping trip at Kiata campground when we stopped to find it. Is very well hidden (as none of the non cachers could not find it) and most were fascinated by the concept of it all.

Took - rubber ball
Left - anti war mondo
Signed log.

First of three caches today (other caches being: Win Win Situation, The Rugged Rascal Ran). Found 05/11/05 (5th November) @ 1:50pm by Paul (Team Stargazer). While attending the 3rd annual VicSouth astronomy camp at the Little Desert Nature Lodge nearby I took the opportunity to drive in & nab this cache. An easy drive in by 4wd and a short walk soon found me at GZ. Took a little time to find the cache though ... got to trust that GPS a little more ... nice hide. Big Grin

Took: Chinese figure
Left: Star/planet stickers

Thanks Derringer Cool

Found by Mary & David at 1555. To SSS, add another for 'superb' and one for 'satisfying'. The GeoChallenger revelled on the sandy track, and the walk in from the car park was superb. A large black snake had slithered across the road in front of us earlier on, and now we were following several sets of kangaroo prints along the beach. Plenty of colour everywhere with the wildflowers . Took small radio, left a red lanyard. Also gave TB 'Scuba Steve' a ride. Lots of kangaroos and rabbits to be seen along the way as we continued on to drive the track from end to end. Many thanks to Derringer - we'd seen some of the 'Desert' before, and now we've seen a lot more of it.
