It seems many of the previous finders have been observed poking around here by some of the building workers. We were sprung by one and so spent ten minutes explaining the hobby, how it works, where people come from and the whole concept. Pretty sure he went away happy and was totally reasonable about it. We already had bookings for the Titanic Exhibition and so that part of the day was a breeze. (and it's well worth visiting BTW) TFTC

Off at the local tourist attraction whilst here with the boys from Canberra and thought "Wow - a Maccamob cache! Better nab that whilst we visit." That said however it was almost abandoned. We arrived at GZ and honed in on the right spot immediately however the high muggle factor made a thorough search very difficult. Then more approaching muggles (or so we thought) meant I decided to abandon the search. Imagine our surprise when the people following also searched furtively in the bushes. Introductions briefly made these new to the scene cachers had the idea - sortly after their friends also arrived! Hmmmm... at least a group doing something odd in the park looks a little less suspiscious than a single person doing something suspiscious in the park.....(I hope) A few minutes later I made the find with the assistance of some torchlight. It wasn't dark but the added illumination does make spotting cache containers a little bit easier. Cache in hand we signed (took group photos) and left. Thanks Maccamob Smile

Found on our 2nd attempt,

Well we were in town to watch the might magpies flog the eagles, and we thought we would stop in and check out the Titanic exhibition, unfortunately for us it was sold out? very disappointing to have come all the way down to see it and we weren't allowed in... Last time we looked for this cache was about 1 year ago when we popped in to see the dinosaurs, Hanseeka found this one while i was taking photos at the fountain.

Thanks for the cache.

Tryed to find this one last year but it seemed such a large area to search, but now the place has been barracaded and the area was narrowed down, we had the cache in had in minutes! No Muggles today as last time there was scores of school buses. Signed log and read some signs to discover this was the first place the Australian flag was revealed and flown! Then off we went on our way to watch Collingwood thrash the Eagles. TFTC Karen.

Following extensive conversations with the local possum population - who know no fear of humans, it is a worry! - we poked and poked until we hit something hard. Retrieval seemed tricky at first, until the obvious method came to mind. It was late at night, and the guard of the Exhibition building seemed a bit suspicious of us. However, he did not approach us but walked away, and if he called police, they did not come before we strolled back to our car. We had read about the archaeological dig in the papers - nice to see it through the little window now!

This originally should be my very first cache in Australia. But - I had to give it a second try to actually find it. First I thought that the construction made the cache gone away. But after careful study of all logs I cam to the conclusion that I was the problem - not the construction work. I finally got it in the night after having some beers. So for all after me: give it a try. It's still there.

I was visiting for a meeting and took the opportunity to go for a walk in this part of town beforehand. There was lots of foot traffic at the time because it was the start of the work day - people scrambling everywhere. It was nice to sit nearby and watch the world go by for a little while. (I had previously attempted this in an evening, at the time of the floral festival (?), and there were too many security guards around to have a good look.) Nice idea for recycling that sort of container. TNLN, TFTC (and sorry about slightly delayed posting).

On a visit to the musuem, thought we'd do a quick find, with EB Nano & EB Max. Hah! Walked close to GZ where a water tanker and a crew of 6 were setting up to tend to the flowers. Gpsr tells me the hide is approx. 11 metres the other side of the construction fence. This should be interesting. Look through the wire portals to see if I can spot any obvious hiding spots in there. Decide that with all the muggle activity and gpsr playing silly buggas, that we should return after the musuem visit. just our luck, Pompeii display finished a week ago, thanks EB Max for that uptodate check on the website. After a fairly ordinary culinary experience at musuem cafe, or is it really a display of antiquities, we returned to find 5 of the crew had left but the tanker was still there. Patiently we watched him pack and leave within the next 10 minutes. Yay. Double checking through the wire, we quickly had the cache in hand and returned to our car to write the log. EB Max put in drak's dragon TB while I put in Gypsy Geocoin. First type of this sort of cache, thankyou for the experience. EB Chief

Found at 1100. Was Melbourne for the day and a few hours to kill before meeting up with a friend, so I decided to walk out to this one from Southern Cross Station. Once at GZ, the GPS was pointing in between two likely locations, so I checked the obvious one first before ringing the help line to narrow down the search area of the second so I didn't go disturbing anything I shouldn't. Having narrowed down the area somewhat, another couple minutes of searching had the cache in hand.

I have been here a few times when I was in school and also two years for an exhibit on the human body. Unfortunately I didn't have time to visit today, but I'm always keeping an eye out for interesting displays.

Third Time lucky!

Found it this lunchtime after two previous attempts. First attempt was yesterday lunchtime but was stymied by a security guard wandering around right on top of GZ. Gave it another go yesterday afternoon, taking a wide detour on my way home from work. This time I was muggled out. The blighters were everywhere and they all wanted to walk through this point.

So it was with bloody mindedness rather than hope that I went back today. Maybe it was the weather and the threat of rain that kept people away but I had the GZ to myself, despite the fact it was lunchtime during school holidays with blockbuster exhibition at the museum nearby.

My hunch about the location was on the money and I had the cache in my hand with out any fuss. It went back just as easily.

Dropped off Alan the Raven TB but otherwise SL TNLN.

We decided to look for this cache after watching the latest Harry Potter movie. It was around 10pm and, unfortunately, we did not bring a torch light. It took us some time to locate the hide. There are definitely fewer muggles at night. We would recommend looking for this cache at night. However, using a torch would make it easier. We took nothing but left the stubs of our movie tickets in the container. The log is nearly full. Thanks for the cache.

Great first Melbourne cache for me! (I'm over from SA)
Still getting used to my GPS a little bit, but after spending a little bit of time in the right sort of area, I was able to hone in more precisely on the right point and then found it easily.
Relatively little foot traffic around, however there was a pesky security guard/parking assistant dude who hung around a bit!

My 100th find!!!
I arrived at GZ around 4pm with Team Board Shorts and our grandparents with us. Thank goodness for grandpa's walking stick otherwise we wouldn't have found the cache. Coordinates were about 4 meters off and most of us searched in the larger garden bed while pa went along and searched through the ivy with his walking stick. No muggles around while we were searching thankfully. We had soon uncovered the cache (the first I have seen of this kind, nice camo!) and had the rather large log sheet signed. Nothing much to trade in there so TNLN. TFTC!!!
No sign of the TB.

Glad to say this one survived the International Flower Show, an initial attempt last week was aborted because without getting too close we thought the cache might be inside the show.
What a brilliant place for a cache, we did this just on dusk and it was still a relatively easy find. Think we spotted the ‘bloody knawer’ as we got close to the GZ, which meant I had to do the retrieve, Mummy wanted nothing to do with what appeared to be a large rat.
What a great cache container, it helped with the stealth; no-one took much notice of a couple of old farts sitting in the park having a cuppa. Also had a chat to a MR O. Possum on the way out and checked out the parts of the CML building that reminded me of a Greek ruin for some part of the walk.

This was a nice find near some fantastic architecture. Was very impressed with the camo job. As I walked away along a nearby street I encountered the likely culprits who destroyed Mk I and II of this cache - a family of possums. First there was Mum with a baby on her back who didn't mind me being only 2 metres from them until I got my camera out and then she got shy and went up a tree. Dad then sauntered over to see what was going on. They probably think that cachers are a good source of possum tucker. Thanks maccamob for bringing us here.

My first Geocache find in Australia. I've been to a couple previously but unable to find so I was pleased to find one. Had a friend along with me to introduce to Geocaching. The cache was found with little effort once we got to the right coordinates. Had a TB with me, but the item attached to the bug wouldn't fit into this container opening. I'll have to find another location to get this into.

Had to laugh at Spice when we got to this one. Having both worked in the plant industry for quite a few years but only Spice getting to go to the annual flower show held here, Spice was busy dragging me around showing me all the different spots. After a while Spice decided to sit at the spot where they normally have lunch, which just happened to be right within reaching distance of the GZ!
After being right there so many times, Spice was amazed.
Really good cache spot!
Took the geocache patch, left some coloured glass stones.

It's nice to finally have it crossed off the list.

Yesterday I was wandering back from inflicting exam-pain on my students in the nearby eponymous edifice, and noticed that GZ had received attention from the groundpeople. Consequently I thought I'd check on the cache. It was there but I was rather startled to be able to see the contents inside it. I had to be elsewhere urgently and there were too many muggles around at the time to check the damage, and so I went back tonight with a replacement container just in case. I have no idea what put the two holes in the original cache container, but it looks as if it has been eaten into by some animal -- I kid you not [:o]. (My thoughts yesterday were that it might have been damaged by some maintenance equipment, but the forensic evidence is against this hypothesis.) Unfortunately my replacement container is not quite as good quality as the original sistema (although hopefully less appetising Smile), but I have ziplocked the contents, and hope that this will suffice. Please ensure the lid is clicked on properly.

A new job as of Monday sees me in the City again, after some 6 months. I guess this time I best use the opportunity to get out & grab some of the many good caches here.

I needed a break for lunch; this was the closest so I decided to head for it.

Thank goodness for the pen in the cache, since I stupidly walked out without bringing my own.

The log by the way is anything but nearly full, if only people would double side the log book!!!

Thanks David & Mary for the diversion.

Found by Pickupfamily Dad and Son at 2020hrs, managed our 300th cache SmileSmileSmile before getting Son home just a little bit late for bed before school tomorrow. Pickupfamily Dad had done a half-hearted search for this alone many months ago, but with two of us, we could cope much better with the muggles. Found that the technique of approaching from a few different directions to "triangulate" GZ worked very nicely in narrowing down the position and helped us find the container eventually.

Left Mt Burns TB, took nothing. Thanks Maccamob.

So during the last hours before flying out we gave it a try, and... got it within 5 minutes or so. No problems at all finding this one. What might be of influence here is that we found it on Good Friday: not a soul in sight.

Found by Bob at 10:45

After doing a couple of nearby BT caches, I thought I might as well try for this one too. It turned out to be a good day for it - I drove my mototbike around the tyre traps and parked a few metres from GZ and found the cache in about 30 seconds. There were no muggles within 100 metres, which is apparently most unusual for this area.

This cache has the most log entries I have yet come across (just beats WWWandering), which is a bit of a surprise considering it's location (i.e. a surprise that it is still there).

4:30pm | Took Nothing... Left Wallet... Got wallet... Left Nothing Surprised

After yesterday's shenanigans on the poker run, I ducked out to finish the weekend's run of caches to get to the dozen in the weekend.

Found it easily, and Samantha & I were impressed with the Exhibition Building's gardener commenting last year that the cache was almost trashed, but he decided to leave it there - good decision.

Having left the swaps in the car, I checked through my wallet to see if there was anything worth leaving. Aside from some Taco Bill vouchers, there was not, and we were on our way. Almost home, stopped to shop, and panic set in as I found my wallet no longer with me. It fell from my pocket as we left the cache, and when we raced back, it was not to be found. Thankfully, an honourable cyclist found it along his way, and took the time to travel what may have been up to 5km out of his way to deliver it back to me. Top stuff!

Ahh, the adventures of Geocaching!

Visited the cache tonight to check on the space left in the log book. The most recent visitors have started using the backs of the pages starting from the back of the book, which means the book is only a little over half full. We're off to Adelaide again in a couple of days so we'll help those TBs on their way westwards.

Nicely hidden!

We had just located the box and were about to enter the challenging 'box recovery' mode when the exhibition hall doors opened and a wall of about 1,000 student muggles marched at us. Held things up. One dropped a paper which revealled that they had been sitting a second year medical exam in the hall.

Some time later cache recovered.

TB Titan is not in the box.

Took TB Speedo.

Left TB's Helmet and Willy Worm who have been travelling together for some time now. We have brought them from the UK and Romania, through Sydney, Brisbane and Cairns. I hope they continue to travel far and wide together.

ALso released TB 'My two pennies worth' which wants to visit the homes of government in as many countries as possible before making its way back to the UK.

Took Monsters Inc plastic figure to make a bit of space for the TBs.

found by team energizer while visiting melbourne from Tasmania, must say caching in melbourne isn't as relaxing as it is in tassie, does anyone in this city ever slow down?

thanks for giving us an excuse to visit this great place, we probably wouldn't of stopped here if it hadn't of been for this game Smile

I hadn't read the earlier logs, so didn't have a replacement logbook, it definately needs it Smile

picked up Karabiner Kitsch TB
dropped off Titan TB from Tassie, enjoy your travels Smile (he's a little squished in this cache so a local cacher might like to drop him in one with a little more room, we didn't have time to find a bigger cache to leave him in while in town)

Happen to be in this great city at a conference and decided to go caching. Nearest cache from the HTL was this one by Maccamob. Found the cache with no trouble. Opened the container and you could have knocked me down with a feather!! A YJTB my brother-in-law (OZGUFF) brought over from the US and deposited in NSW/QLD back in May. Already its found it's way to Mel. By a fluke a QLD geocacher deposited here only yesterday and had yet to log the visit! Sorry Vic cachers....this TB is off to SA (just like the AFL Premiership Big Grin) Left Filbert's Frequent Flyer Card TB as a consolation prize.

We had a few problems mastering the new GPS but got fairly close anyway. We searched in one area for about 5 minutes then checked the GPS and moved to a new area and found the cache at 6:25pm. It's very well hidden but we are surprised that it has survived given the heavily trafficked surroundings. Good work Maccamob. Even on a cold, wet evening there were still quite a few people around and we wouldn't want to be searching if there were lots of people about (which would be quite often). We took Tiger Balm and left a yellow plastic lizard. We also took Travel Bug "RaceHeks" to continue his/her/its travels.

After initially being out by over 15 meters and standing in the middle of the carpark looking like a dork, I headed over to where I though the cache might lie and let the GPSr settle down.
Sure enough after a minute or two, it said I was only 3 meters away and I started the hunt.
Fortunately there was no-one around, so I was able to hunt in style and found it within a minute or two.
I swapped the Bear Hair Clips (which G loves) for a Stegosaurus.

No.8 of 12 for the day with Dak. The weather eased off a bit while we found a park and walked to the spot. This is a nice location for a cache.Smile
Very disappointed with our 'fellow man' re. all the rubbish 'hidden' behind bushes etc.Twisted As it is a very busy public place; we had to become as sneaky as the 'litter bugs' to find the cache. We started to collect the rubbish as a subterfuge. It wasn't hard to fill Dak's CITO bag. We got the job done however. I turned my back to add some rubbish to the bag, and you guessed it! He found the cache. Again! Dak 6, Barcoder 2

Found at 1535 in company with barcoder on a wet, cold, windy (basically miserable) day--eighth of eleven for the day. This is a very public place, so we had to employ sneaky tactics. Its amazing how many times I have sat around this location prior to geocaching totally unaware of what lies yonder.
Not anymore, today Mr.Coffee whispered out loud "found it over here". another score for the "geotech head beleive in your GPS may the force be with the Magellan" male. anyway enough rattling off, thank you Maccamob for this 26 min search cache. GPS was all over the place and averaging only increased confusion. according the the Garmin PDOP was running at up to 8 which may not have helped and the Magellan gold had only 3 sats coverage. left nothing took nothing, just enjoyed the find. again thanks Maccamob.

On the way home from yet another day at the 13th Office (which didn't turn out to be a Good Friday really Wink, (but that, Little Adam, is another story!!!)), I thought I'd have a shot at some caches that appeared on the "Nearest" waypoints screen of Geko. This one was there!!!

Taking the longer route, I got this one quite easily at 19:15. I didn't intend to take anything, but when I saw Smallworld TB (having become quite addicted to TBs), I decided to swap a pursepack 15+ sunscreen for the aforementioned TB. This cache would actually have been a great drop-off point for Flutters TB but unfortunately she didn't make the trek to 13th with me.

This being my second ever night cache, I am starting to get worried that when they are replaced, they will be too easily visible during daylight. Hopefully, it should be OK. If I can get down there over the next couple of days during daylight, I'll do the surreptitious walk-by to make sure that it is well hidden.

Thanks for yet another great "hide" maccamob Cool.

Well... no luck tonight. First of all, I thought the exhibition going on in the park would mess me up. However, I discovered I didn't need to go into the park, but there was a guard that was very curious as to what I was doing and came over to check me out.

Wound up recruiting him to help me look, but we came up completely dry. Must have spent 30-45 minutes looking. So is the Exhibitionist still there? One has to wonder....
