North Spencer Rd (Route 31)
Spencer, MA, USA

St. Joseph's Abbey in Spencer, Massachusetts, is a noteworthy example of a Cistercian Abbey in New England. Usually we write lengthy descriptions of locationless caches, but the St. Joseph's Abbey website has such an excellent history page, that we'll simply point interested readers to it to learn more about the history of this unique abbey.

Thanks for encouraging us to make a visit to this interesting place!

It was plundered in 1525 during „Bauernkrieg“ (countrymen’s revolution) and destroyed by Swedish Forces in 1642 during the „30 years war“. Finally it was closed in 1649.
