Physically located ON the Port Hueneme, CA Seabee Base, this US Flag flies in front of my current workplace. I am coming to the end of a teaching tour for the US Navy where we train the guys/girls who deploy throughout the world how to do their jobs BETTER by passing on technical knowledge about how to build and fix things. As the building behind it (the "White House") states, we are known as the "Seabee College."

The White House, a base landmark itself, was constructed in the 1940's as the first headquarters for the base chain-of-command/administrative department, "for the Seabees, BY the Seabees." It was purposely designed to draw inspiration from the centermost portion of the more famous "White House" at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue... It now houses the administrative department for our teaching command. I am not certain when the current flag pole itself was actually erected.

On the lawn/porch area visible around the flag pole in the photos, many retirement ceremonies have been held, which send a Seabee/Sailor "ashore" for the final time. It is one HECK of an emotional process for the retiree, but certainly a respectful ceremony to be sure...

Pictures will be uploaded as soon as I return from the holiday weekend, as the home computer is NOT recognizing the mini-disc from the camera even though the work one does...

I really like this flag and flag pole. It's made even better by the fact that it is in my own backyard so it's a one of a kind! We hand dug a five foot deep foundation for this puppy because a 22' aluminum flagpole is unbelievably heavy and in our sandy soil we wanted to make sure that it was going to stay straight. The next morning, our 5' hole was a pond......high water table! We pumped it out and poured the base before it could fill up again!

I'll upload the pics shortly.

The Flagpole has been a landmark in Livermore, CA. since 1905. It is well placed, appearing right in the middle of 1st St as you are driving east through downtown.
Due to structural problems, the Livermore Flagpole was removed Thursday, October 7, 2004 after over 99 years of service.
The new fiberglass flagpole was installed June 17, 2005
The new 120 foot fiberglass flagpole was installed on June 17, 2005. It is about 3 or 4 feet west of the old pole. The stump of the old pole is still in the ground. The flag will be first flown on July 4th, at a dedication ceremony beginning at 9:00am.
