This tower sits near the town of St. Robert, Missouri. This tower is maintained by the Missouri Conservation Department. Don't know if it's still in use or not, we haven't had many fires lately. Situated on a hillock (Locally: a koppie) 490m asl at a town called Grabouw. The koppie is called Sopieshoogte. (A "sopie" is a sip or snort of liquor or wine and "hoogte" means height.) This would probably mean that some time in the past, someone was having sundowners up here.
The tower is manned and had someone on duty.
The tower protects the State Pine Forest Plantations in this area.
Had no-one with me - thus only GPS & tower.

An abandoned fire tower located in Western Lucas County: outside of Toledo, Ohio. It seems to have some cell or radio antennas on top now. The area still is fairly wooded with the large Oak Openings Preserve Metropark nearby. Elevation is 686 ft. Tower is approx 150 feet high. TFTC

Bee Mtn. Lookout is in Polk County Arkansas just south of Mena, Arkansas in the Ouchita Mountains. The road to this abandoned tower is blocked & the closest I got to it is .25 miles. I was at an elevation some 500' less than the listed elevation of the peak which is 1920'. Looked straight up to me & since I am far from being part billy goat I took a pic from there.
It was built in 1938 by the CCC & is a 12'x 12' wooden structure on a single story rock base. It is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Found this tower on the way from Sumterville to Orlando, FL. This is a suburban fire tower, on a 'main drag' filled with strip malls - not where you'd expect to find a fire tower. That's why we had to stop - it was so unexpected.

Actually two towers for your enjoyment. Tower one, known as the Camdenton tower is located west-north-west of Camdenton, Missouri, in Camden County. The tower is at 1046ft. elevation and is itself 100ft tall. As far as I can tell, the tower was built before WWII, and is currently owned (but not used) by the MO conservation Dept. Thanks to my daughter for taking the pix. This spot is actually at the start of a multicache.
The second tower is commonly called the Fort Wood Tower, although it is not located physically on Fort Leonard Wood, MO, but about a mile North of there, in Saint Robert, MO, Pulaski COunty. The Fort Wood tower was built around the time of WWII (~1944-45) about the same time as the Fort. The tower is located at 1013ft elev. and is also 100ft. tall. The tower is owned? by the Mo. Dept. of Conservation, but is not used. It sits right next to I-44, in case you are interested.

Barrie Ontario Canada. This is an old fire tower that stands in the Simcoe Forest just north of Barrie. It is (obviously) no longer in use as a fire tower, but has been painted all around to attract visitors to the local campground and visitor's centre. The ladder, walkway and fencing are still intact, and those brave enough can still climb to the top to use the tower as a lookout to view the local tourist area.

This is located in Pennsylvania. It is up on top of the highest point in Somerset County, in PA. The elevation on the sign said 3213 ft. We don't think that the tower has a name. It is on a mountain that actually has 2 names, Mt. Davis & Mt. Negro... This is because during the Civil War a black Sgt. save the lives of his whole company, but got shot and died doing so... He is buried up there somewhere... The officers did not know his name so the dedicated the mountain to him the only way they knew how. Now thats a story.
Thanks for the hunt, that makes kill #192 for us.

3rd of 9 caches for the day (all but 2 being locationless caches - gotta get 'em done, gotta get 'em done). We were headed down to Branson (College of the Ozarks) to pick up the firetruck we bought (its a long story) when we spotted this fire tower. This is the Lohmer Fire Tower in Mark Twain National Forest in Barry County, MO. The altitude at the base of the tower is 1581'. Because the first flight of steps is missing on the tower we were unable to ascertain the altitude at the top of the tower. Located in the center of the base of this tower is a benchmark. This is an unmanned tower. Immediately behind the tower is a private residence.

This is Chenocetah Mountain Fire Tower in Cornelia, Habersham County, Georgia. Naturally, it is on Chenocetah Mountain. The elevation at the base of the tower is given as 1830 feet, but our GPSr read 1852 feet. The tower is approximately 40 feet high. It was built in 1937 by the WPA for the US Forest Service, who used it until 1975. It was unused until 1989 when the Georgia Forestry Commission took over staffing during fire season. During WWII, the tower was also used as an observation post for enemy aircraft. (I don't think they ever saw any.) It was listed on the National Register Of Historic Places in 1983.

Known to locals as "the tower," this is actually the Blue Ridge Lookout on Dunlop Mountain, Franklin Co., Pennsylvania. Elevation at the base is 1804' and if geometry serves, hight is approximately 120' from the roof peak. The tower is currently owned by Washington Twp. but previously had belonged to a church after being decomissioned probably in the 1960's. There is a well maintained chipped road up to the tower, but it is gated about a half mile down the hill. Today, numerous antennae can be seen near the top. Although the base is fenced and access is not intended, the gate is not locked and the tower can be climbed by those exercising caution. #88

This fire tower in no nonger manned, but is in active use as an observation tower for tourists. It is scaled by thousands especially during the fall colour season for it located in the midst of a boreal hardwood (maple, beech, oak, ash, birch) forested area in central Ontario, Canada. The attached photo lists the historic origins of the Dorset Observation Tower. The tower site is open to the public from mid-May to mid-October, in this area with six months of 'winter' and the other six known to be 'tough-sledding'

This is the fire tower at "Klein Spitskop" (which means little pointed hill), near Sabie, Mpumalanga Province, South Africa. There is extensive forestry in the area, and there are many firetowers, most of which are totally unapproachable, because they are on strictly controlled private land, and we are ethical geocachers - hence the photo from quite a distance. The tall towers are radio masts - the fire tower is the glass-windowed building at the bottom. We decided to log this tower because it is different - most towers are perched on long stilts, this one is not - it looks like it is only 1-2 metres off the ground, but perched right on top of one of the highest hills in the area - maybe they didn't need any more height. This tower works in conjunction with a squadron of Dromader water bombers stationed a few kilometers away, at a grass strip airfield perched on the edge of a cliff overlooking Witklip dam.

The Summit Fire Tower is located in Cattaraugus County,NY in Allegany State Park. It is actually located on South Mountain. It was constructed in the Fall of 1926. It is constructed of galvanized steel and the elevation is 2,375'. It has 100 steps. "Back in the day," they would give a certificate to those who completed the trip to the top! It is currently abandoned, but open to the public.

Found this while on the top of the highest point in Arkansas...Mt. Magazine located in Logan County, just south of Paris.
The first time I witnessed this fire tower several years ago, you could climb up in it, but the day I was here it had been fenced off with 6' high cyclone fence; probably b/c it is being used as an antenna holder for various cell phone, pager and other communication companies. It has an old cabin at the base of it which was used as living quarters for the smoke reporters.
There are about 35 other communication towers nearby and we affectionately call this a "Tower Farm" . Since there was a protectant type BIG DOG guarding the fire tower grounds, I thought it best to take a picture from a distance.
I know of 3 other fire towers in the area, but this is my favorite. Thanks for the cache.

Peoh Point look out, in Kittitas County, WA. From this point, one could see just about forever in the north east and west. Look out was razed in 1996, the site is now home to a cell tower. Elevation 4020, officially. My GPS actually said 3996, so I was a few feet off. Here is the offical particulars from firelookout.com:
Perched atop a 2000' cliff, an L-4 cab was built in 1951. This was followed by a DNR live-in cab atop a 10 foot concrete block base built in 1974. It was ordered destroyed in 1996 by short-sighted DNR managers who don't appreciate the historic value of lookouts. It had briefly been seen in the television series "Northern Exposure" which was filmed in nearby Roslyn, Washington, and was located only 2 miles north of Taneum Point L.O. on the same ridge.
May I say that I had a death grip on my 3 year old daughter, because the 2000 foot cliff they mention in the description is straight down! WAYYYYYYY down. :0 What a fun cache, and thanks for the excuse to enjoy a gorgeous fall day in central Washington.

Sugar Camp Fire Tower is located on Sugar Camp Hill in Douglas County, Wisconsin. The elevation of the hill is 1250 feet and the tower is 100 feet high. The tower is not manned but the WI DNR has not abandoned it either. One idea the DNR has is to rent or sell space on the tower for antennas to cellular phone vendors.
This is fairly new tower although the DNR could not tell me when it was erected.

Rondaxe (aka Bald) Mountain Fire Tower in the Adirondack Forest Preserve in New York State was officially closed by the DEC on 1990 after moe than ten years of harsh weather and a lack of maintenance had left the historic tower desperately in need of repair. One evening in May of 2002 a committee was formed to begin the task of restoring the tower to its original condition, developing an educational component that would highlight the tower's human and environmental history, and recruit partners to lend manpower and financial support for the project. Work continued on the rebuilding project and on June 18th, 2005, after its completion, a rededication ceremony was held at the tower. The new tower is a replica of the former tower, which stood on this spot protecting the mountain forests and its inhabitants for many years before deteriorating beyond repair. The view from the new tower is breathtaking, providing an overview of many of the mountain lakes in the area. Though this tower was logged by a fellow cacher in October of 2003, renovation was in its very early stages at that time. We thought that perhaps fire tower fans might enjoy seeing the end result of the hard work of those who spent so many hours carrying out the restoration.

The Geo-Ranger visited this abandoned watch tower located on the High Speed Sled Test Track at Holloman Air Force Base in Otero County, New Mexico. This observer tower has been there since the early 50s when some of the first testing of deceleration effects on the body were performed. Testing here has led to innovations like the lap and shoulder restraint seat belt found in all cars today.
Two years ago the land speed record (see picture) was set on this test track. In the early days, rocket testing often had failures so a watch tower was there for witnesses to monitor the test and report fiery test failures.
The High Speed Test Tracker tower is located at the 29178 ft mark of the over 50,000 foot long sled track. Nine satellites reported the location and the altitude is 4120.7 feet. There were two signs that designated this tower: the number 14-904 and TM-6.

Found this one between Hennigsdorf and Velten in the state of Brandenburg, Germany, app. 22 km NW of the centre of Berlin.
From its looks you could classify it as a typical East German Fire Tower built probably 30 or 40 years ago.
I do not know if it is in use any more; but with all the mobile phone antennas on it I guess it is reused for a new purpose in its "second life".
The tower stands in flat land a little more than 1 km from the river Havel before it enters Berlin. The elevation is app. 36 m above sea level. The height of the tower I can only estimate as app. 30 metres.
Thank you for this cache!
With best regards from Germany,

This lookout tower is in Mt Crawford State Forest, to the northeast of Adelaide, South Australia. No mountain name is given on the local topo map though. Certainly a good view from here, all the way to the water and covering a lot of landscape. GPS was saying 531 metres at the top which agrees with the maps. Unattended when I was there, fire danger season hasn't started yet and it was a showery day. All fenced off so you can't get within about 10 metres unluckily.
