We camped at Catninga Hut last night and walked this section of the Heysen Trail today. A very foggy morning but it cleared as we walked and climbed and climbed and climbed. An amazing effort for Mr C, just 6 weeks after a hip replacement! We climbed the lookout and enjoyed fantastic views while almost being blown off.
A great walk and cache, thank you.

Well, it may have nearly killed me coming straight up from the valley in the steepest Point, grabbing anything I could to stop from slipping, but, the view was absolutely worth it. Also, as a side note I followed the hysen trail back down and it was a far more enjoyable stroll.

TFTC! I never would have persisted if it wasn't there.

As ill prepared as I was , the reward at the top paid back in spades. Thank you for the encouragement to walk up and up.....and up.

Great views, great day with the Retire Active bushwalkers.

Climb, climb, climb, climb and climb some more.

We didn't approach this one the easy way, coming from the south. We were camped on the Mt Brown property, so set out to walk (via the Heyson trail) from our camp to the summit of Mt Brown, then around the loop and back to camp. Over 22km, with nearly 1000 metres of elevation. The last climb to the summit, was steep and involved some rock scrambling, but the view at the top (and on our way up) was worth it. Found the cache and enjoyed some lunch (thankfully in a sheltered spot from the wind), before continuing around the Mt Brown loop track.

An awesome cache to find - this is why we love caching.

Thanks to the eagle eyes of H423L, I too could get a find whilst out with walking the Heysen Trail woth E2E10. An aptly named cache.

04-Aug-19
We walked towards the cache from Broadview Station. Today we were on the Heysen Trail with End-2-End 10. From the station all we did was climb, climb, climb. An appropriately named cache. The views today were spectacular. TFTC worth every step up the ‘hill’.

It was the final day of the Quorn Quondam Quest (QQQ) weekend event, and it was a day of some local geocaching around Quorn, geocaching to the Pichi Richi Railway Woolshed Flat Train Station CITO event, a climb with [@Laighside Legends](http://coord.info/PR3BCW0) to Mount Brown, and then traveling back to Adelaide in the evening.

We debated whether we would continue this hike from the pitchi richi raiway station since we had also walked to the Waukarie Creek traditional cache, but in the end, we decided to drive back into Quorn and to the closer Mount Brown carpark since that would result overall in a shorter walk. All up, by the time we left our cars and returned, it took a bit over three hours all up.

There was some great rock faulting that looked like bricks within the first 1 km section, and we also passed a few geology waypoints that had some interesting descriptions. We continued to climb, and all up, wasn't a hard walk. We also saw a few herds of wild goats in front of us, as well as a few kangaroos around the place. A nice walk actually. We also passed a gentleman who mentioned that he helped to look after this trail, and for us to sign the book up the top to help track statistics, to help with any required funding etc.

At GZ, we arrived and thought we would check out the viewing platform first. We climbed up to see some spectacular 270 degree views. Some interesting and fascinating information and plaques also, as we had discussed whether Brown had even visited Australia - well it turned out, he had. We then made sure to sign the logbook, and even saw the CO's entry back in 2002! Refer to the attached photo. It was then on to finding the cache, and that didn't take much time at all, with everything in good shape. Cheers [@Freddo](http://coord.info/PR8C14) and his tadlet!

Found It!
Me and Davidwazza set off up this hill after the CITO event (and after driving around to the easier carpark). Two hours of climbing later and we were at the top! After admiring the views and signing the other logbook, we found the cache! This has been my oldest unfound Freddo cache for a while now - nice to finally have it found!

Nice country and walk. Glad it is a reserve and hope the goats can be removed which will give the flora a better chance for seedlings to grow. Noticed the parks will be closed from 1 -9 September 2016 for pest control so hope that will be one of the tasks.
TFTC Freddo
Having been to the Flinders Ranges area about a decade ago, we picked out some different walks for this current trip and they had the bonus of some geocaches along the way.

stopped by on trek to summit, then along olive grove trail. cache log and container in good condition. took nothing all ok.

Mt Everest is exactly 9.178423 times higher than Mt Brown. A coincidence? I think not. Wink

Thanks for the climb, Freddo

Prior to our trip to the Southern Flinders, I had discussed with the CO what the best plan of attack would be to tackle this cache and inquired how difficult it would be for muggles to walk to.

With a clear starting point in mind and the assurance that the walk was long but not that hard I convinced no less than NINE muggles to join me this morning.

The walk turned out to be a great social experiment.

Our geoson, my godson and a good friend that jogs around Anstey Hill on a daily basis flew out of the starting blocks and found themselves in no time flat at the top.
Another friend also set a cracking pace and arrived at the summit not long after.

Two of the kids (11 and 15) settled down on their own pace and arrived at the top some 30 minutes later.

And the rear of the pack…… Our geo-daughter who decided she was no longer in a walking mood, The daughter of a friend who has now decided she wants to come back in the next life as a sea cucumber and my poor wife, who was feeling the effects of a champagne binge the night before.
And lastly myself encouraging my three companions to keep going.

Still, once finally at the top after 2h20, we all felt that sense of achievement and marveled at the fantastic views south to Mt Remarkable, west to Pt Augusta and the Eyre Peninsula and north to more mountain peaks I am hoping to climb one day.

The first group decided to run the whole way down, whilst all the others enjoyed a more leisurely pace back, but once back at car park (exactly 4h after our departure for the slow coaches) we all agreed what a fantastic walk this is.

Thank you Freddo for placing a cache here all those years ago.

Oh yes, I also dropped off a TB here. Hopefully someone will pick this up before summer kicks in.

It was about time this cache was found again! First to Find this Year Big Grin We were staying at Catninga and today we experienced a 4WD tour with the owners in these magnificent hills. After an exhilarating drive we arrived at their Mountain Hut, which is available for use by Heysen Trail walkers. It was from this point that we commenced our walk to the Mt Brown summit. It only took an hour to get to the summit from that point, but it was certainly climb, climb, climb - they told us when we returned that it was actually harder than coming up from Olive Grove Surprised We weren't sure that we would make it to the top, but of course if there's a cache up there then it provides a great incentive to keep going so keep going we did, pausing every now and then for a breather. Always worth it when you arrive, thanks for making the cache easy to find after all that effort [^] It's a pity all that man made paraphernalia is up there, kind of spoils the natural beauty. But the views of course are fantastic, and the lookout certainly improves the view. Signed the other log book, then back to the Mountain Hut where a lovely BBQ lunch awaited us [^] Thanks Freddo for the exercise.

TFTC. Glad it was not to hard to find considering the effort to climb.

This cat rarely does anything the easy way, so in attempting to up the terrain to 6 joined in with some Heysen Trail walkers and started out further south near Broadview Homestead for a long steep climb and rock scramble, in rain and up in the clouds. We came, we climbed, we conquered!
A long day's walk, and all to be seen from the summit was the cloud we were in!
But some history on plaques too.
This one really isn't for the faint hearted!!! }:)
And great views of the gulf on the way up from the South and down to the North.
Thanks for this cache, a long lasting monument to climbing cachers Smile

Big Grin What a great place, we set off from Olive Grove at 11:00 am and returned 1750 hours, most of our time used exploring this magnificent place and a snack break. Great views from the tower, snapped some photo's, and took in the views. On our return to Olive Grove came across some Feral Goats. Thanks for the Cache Freddo, and work out. [^] TFTHSL.

I came to town and climbed climbed climbed and found a cache. We were staying at Olive Grove cottage so was able to head off right from base. Left at dawn and topped the mountain at 7.30. Views were excellent. Cache found easily and in good shape. TNLN Dropped off a TB and pathtag. Thanks for placing a hide up there.

Fantastic walk... Lots of spiders.

Thanks

Went up to Mt Brown for a walk this morning. I noticed that there hadnt been any logs since my last visit in 2008 so I checked out the cache while I was up there. All good, 3 accidental finds logged in the log book. Great views this morning once the cloud lifted. cheers

Sometimes weather gets in the way of your plans...

Up in Quorn this long weekend with Fullarton Venturer Unit and Roxby Downs Venturer Unit. Our plan was to do Dutchmans Stern on Saturday (which we did, and found The Dutchman), and Mount Brown on Sunday... which we decided against when the rain set in on Saturday night. So after a pretty lazy Sunday in Quorn, we missed out on climbing Mount Brown and getting this cache. This morning (Monday) we did however manage to get up Devil's Peak and "find" Quorny Little Devil.

Had a great walk up the track from Olive Grove to this beautiful location. That hill does not let up and you look forward to a level stretch for a change but on it goes. The view was great from the top today although a bit cool right at the top of the lookout. Cheers from the Posspet Boys
Just wanted to add a reference to the Department of Environment and Heritage brochure on the area and add some pictures.

Found the cache while on a weekend walk from Horrocks' Monument to Woolshed Flat with the 32 members of the Friends of the Heysen Trail on the End-2-End 2 hike. The weather was magnificent, but if you intend to walk to the summit of Mt. Brown the northern approach is by far the easiest.

An easy find on day one of a two day hike from Woolshed Flat to Horrocks Pass Monument. Big Grin
We have been here many times before and love the spot normally, but not in this type of weather...
The lookout tower was completely useless [:(!]
It was a complete "white out" cold and very damp (See Pic),Sad
The rest of our trek was fantastic although tough due to the many hills to climb and descend and it was our first “real†one for the year so fitness was down a bit Red Face

Found it on day one of a 4 day hike through Mt Brown conservation park. Reason for the trip was Julian's BP Ramble. Pretty good weather all things considering and the views weren't bad either.
Thanks for the cache

Well we climbed, climbed, climbed again. It was definately worth the re-visit as the hills were green and in bloom. Although we're told that the purple flowered plants are weeds but they still look beautiful.

It was a chilly morning. We took about 1hr and 20mins of sweat and toil and as we were sitting up the top admiring the view, a jogger arrives having done the same in 40 minutes! Bel wasn't willing to put the jogging shoes to go bafck down so we spent another 1hr and 20mins going back down.

Thanks for keeping the cache alive and it is a marvellous walk.

Thanks Freddo and Thomas

Was within 1.5km from the top to maintain a transmitter beacon and then decided to run to the top to get a bit of exercise (I just do this sort of thing). Finally can log this thanks to the relocation. I could have logged it according to Freddos commentry but wanted to physically find this. took the chokky Frog (yum) LNSL

Regarding the Drive, Bump, Climb route the local owner has advised me that this option is definitely not available, and is considered to be extremely inappropriate. Any contact attempts will cause serious issues.

I stuffed up here and I would not like to dig the hole any deeper. I hope the owner will accept my apology. The future assistance of all geocachers is appreciated.

Apologies to anyone who tried to find this cache in its original location. The cache was one of our earliest caches. On reflection positioning the cache in the middle of a rock field was not one of our better ideas. The yakka stick marker may have been a reasonable notion but two years between finders was too long.

We searched the area for the original cache for about twenty minutes. It is buried I am afraid. Or else muggled!! The second option seems too bizarre to be real. Maybe aliens abducted our cache.

We have replaced the cache container and moved the position about 40m. The hint has been changed to point out the new location. S32 30.357, E138 00.474

I still have to say the top of this mountain is one of my favorite places on the planet. The view can only be described as awesome.

PS: Anyone who did the climb and used the mountain logbook is free to log the cache. We did not find the logbook on our first visit. This time it was in our face.

Freddo
we went up again to no avail but alas this means a walk for you. Did our best too follow your instructions but sooo many good hiding places around GZ. Over the two visits three GPSr have put the GZ on the same rock and now we have done a few of your caches we were sure of a find. We felt like quarrey workers with the amount of rocks moved. I must recommend this location for its fantastic views and serenity.

Guys we will check this location next time we are in the area. Can you wait a month or two?

Arrived with BELKEN and GEOBRETT. My first; however, not my last. The site is old and the cache hard to find. I can see this hill from my duelling and I am keen to find this one. So FREDDO if you are watching this site can you restore the site. cheers

Well we climbed, climbed, climbed and searched, searched, searched.... but could not find. We spent over an hour looking. Hundreds of yakka sticks around (once we figured out what a yakka stick was.

We signed the log book at the Tower and climbed all the way down.

Still had a wonderful day and the view was worth the effort.

Didn't find it in the company of Belken. I would like to mention that I was first up the hill.

Good walk. Enjoyed the day.

Found by Team GeoCoopers
After hiking the 11km circuit trail from Mambray Creek to Mt Cavern the day before, we awoke keen to tackle another summit of the Southern Flinders.
We mistakenly missed the 'official' carpark and drove up a fire trail to within 3km as the crow flies from the cache. A steady uphill hike saw us at the summit in a few minutes over an hour.
After taking in the terrific views from the impressive information platform, we cooked up our lunch, and then began our search. Half heartedly while still munching on lunch we looked, before someone read the cache note which made it immediately obvious.
Cheers Freddo for helping to make this one of our great hikes of the weekend. (206)

08-Sep-02
This was the one we had planned the weekend around. Did a bit of investigating before deciding where to head off from and finally decided on Olive Grove which would then mean approx a 12 km return walk. We were well equiped with lots of food (leftovers from last nights camp oven roast) and lots of water. Our friends Phil and Jan were with us and we all really enjoyed the whole thing. The climb though fairly long is not steep, the scenery is beautiful, the bush track interesting. From the top there is a 360 degree view. We really recommend doing this climb - don't do it when it is too hot. We had a perfect day for it with a cool breeze blowing but still got quite hot but alternatively you really need a clear day to get the most from the view. Thankyou Freddo and co for placing this cache. Climbing Mt Brown would not have been something we would have done if you hadn't. It took us about two and half hours going up and one and a half hours to come down and spent a leisurely hour on top over lunch and views. We took the star chart and left an elephant.
