2TF!! Followed all the safety requirements - kayak, lifejackets and paddle (from the cache owner!): check, warm clothes (including togs): check, GPS: check, footwear: no!, writing implement: no! However, two EU crew still had a great time, and the cache was nicely tucked away. A fantastic excuse to enjoy a kayak ride, and visit an island I have looked at many times across a small strip of water. Picked up GC. TFTC SL (with a nice brown stick!).

May I endorse waiiti20's comments about taking extreme care if swimming. I was involved in getting help (I was on the Island Bay shore- I would drown before I got halfway out!) for an incident where someone (not a cacher and well before placement of this cache) got to the island but needed assistance to get back owing to the strong current which was flowing between the island and the bay. The swim should only be attempted by expert swimmers who know what they are doing and are absolutely sure they can safely swim there and (especially?!) back.

Hi - We haven't managed to organise ourselves to get out to this one yet... But its on the list! Just an FYI - Page A15 of this w'ends Dom Post "Saturday, March 13: Clear Taputeranga Island of plastic and polystyrene; meet at Island Bat 1pm. Bring your own kayak and bungee cords, and wear a lifejackets; the council will provide bags and gloves". I'm sure the GC is well hidden - but may be at risk or an excuse for GCers to do a "cache in trash out" trip to the island...? Cheers presusie

Happy Days FTF !!!!!!! Saw this listing last night and I could hardly get to sleep from the anticipation of maybe getting the FTF. Up this morning at 5:15 to load the kayak on the car, a quick bite of breakfast, and off we go. Man I just love this sort of cache. A short paddle to the lee side of the island, a short stroll to GZ which was a little difficult in my sea booties, and I found the cache after a short search. Thanks very much for the placement, a most enjoyable hours adventure before work. I had thought about putting a cache out here myself but as they say if you snooze you lose. TNLN SL 0725hr TFTC.
