Nineth day of our trip and we have come to Canberra via the Rutherglen Mega, Sydney and Newcastle.

Very first stop was Black Mountain, but we were unaware that the Tower was closed. However it did mean that we had more time for this Oldie. Lots of people walking down the tower but no one seemed to care about us on the rocks "taking photos". Nice quick find with good coordinates. Shame the orginal log book is gone, I enjoy reading the old logs.

Thanks for the cache geodesy #5

Today was my last day in Canberra and I was picked up nice and early for a caching day with The Green Geckos. She had a plan of caches to collect and I was just following along. It did not matter where we went as they are all new to me, lol.

First was an early start and drive up to the Telstra tower. Here was a virtual and a couple of challenge caches and around a ways was a whole series of challenge caches. We signed the logs where required and answered questions or took pics where required.

We meet up with the Domsky’s and walked a trail for a nice rainy walk. Then we proceeded to grab a few fun tree fishing or tree climbing caches. It was then a final event of Roddyc’s before a drive to the airport. An adventure lab and a virtual awaited me there. There is So much to see and do in Canberra.

04-Apr-23
Huff puff We made it. We passed many walkers on our way up who were going down the trail.
At GZ we found this cache well hidden. Log signed, cache re-hidden and we were on our way.

Thank you.

This is my third trip to Canberra this year. And truthfully it has not been a good start. Marred by airline baggage fails and a morning buying some essentials. But after lunch, I set off for my planned day of geocaching. I love Canberra and am bloody happy to be here. I have big plans for this trip. Today I wanna grab some choice Jasmer geocaches and in a couple of days will head to the Snowies.

Getting myself up this mountain is the big goal for me this afternoon. On my first trip to Canberra, I tried but ran out of energy and time. The second trip it was a non-starter, so this time I'm ready! I had scootered from the city to the base of Black Mountain Road and knew from here it was two feet and a heartbeat. With a heavy backpack with all my worldly possessions.

It hasn't been missed by me that 99.9% of people who go up here, drive up the road. The rest probably hike up from the Botanic Gardens. Not me, I decided to hike up the road. It's hot and steep, even if the most direct path. Luckily there's no much traffic and about halfway up, a rocky trail to follow.

At the top, I am a sweaty mess, but refill my waterbottle, and cool off while checking out the views. I had very little idea where to go from here, but the tracks on the geocaching app were good. The whole carpark was a ghost town and I'd only seen two other people this whole time. I found the right track and headed downhill for the first time in a while.

Not long later, after just noting how the bush is different to what I'm used to at home, I was just a few metres from GZ. As I wandered in, it was a lovely relief to have a brisk breeze peeling up the slope. I put my bag down, and within a minute had the geocache in hand. A comfy rock beckoned and I pondered I'm unlikely the first geocacher to sit right there and sign the logbook.

For some time I sat and cooled off. I also had to ponder where to from here. My plan for the afternoon ran out at this geocache. At 14:45 I replaced the geocache as found, picked up my bag again and set off. I decided to trek down the summit track to the Black Mountain Gate and wander through the botanic gardens. I think it was the right route to take (even if different from the description) but golly it meant a lot of walking for the day.

Older geocaches always are a priority for me. For exactly the reasons seen here - thoughtfully placed in fantastic locations and worth the extra effort to get to. I am really glad I finally got here. Hilariously with almost 7400 geocache finds, this is the first called simple "Geocache". Thank you for this specific geocache and keeping it alive for so long, geodesy#5 Smile

Cool to find a cache older than me, I think this is the second one I have found so far! Took my mum up black mountain as she is in Canberra for my graduation. TFTC Smile)

#825 Got in contact with Turtle284 after work and planned to meet him at the bottom of the mountain for a few caches but noticed this older hide sitting up here so decided to drop in before catching up with him. Parked at the top and headed down the track towards the cache, noting that a second track my phones map said was there was now being used for new plantings. The trek down to the cache was easy and the cache was found shortly after arrival. Name has been added to the log and cache returned to its spot. The trek back up was a fair bit steeper and as I was trying to push along to not keep Turtle waiting I was puffed. Thanks geodesy#5 for the hide

Travelling home from our very memorable road trip we are enjoying some stops in places we’ve not been before. This is the first time we’ve stopped in Canberra and I needed to choose wisely which caches to find. We chose this cache because it included a walk, it has a good view from an iconic location and an older date.

We enjoyed finding your cache today as part of our memorable road trip beyond Victoria. Thanks for the cache. A favourite point from us.

Thanks!

A road trip to Canberra provided ample opportunities to stop off along the way looking for some of the hides that have been very kindly placed along the way.

I spent an enjoyable afternoon walking around the trails here collecting a range of the many caches available. I spotted this one as a gap in my months found so made sure to make the short hike down from the top. Circled around a few times but then spotted the hide. Thanks for the cache.

Down from the cenny coast for a solo novo geocaching trip in the first week of January - a great way to start the year I say. I've decided to specifically hit Yass and CBR for a few days. This is day 4 where I’ve enjoyed more of a hiking day this morning to the south east. This arvie I'd made it into the city for the first time on this trip for some urban caches. Thought I'd now pop up to Telstra Tower for this retro as, despite many a visit here to Canberra over the years, I've never actually been up to Black Mountain.

Like all good old-school caches, a solid hide here in a simple but speccy location where I SL at 6.52pm. I'm finder #828 which is quite remarkable. Our names are now in the log and we visited some TBs including our novo Jasmer coin where this cache marks our 3rd 10/01 cache. TFTC, geodesy#5.

Took me a while to spot this one, went in deeper than required (misinterpreted the hint).

Quick ping to the previous finder who confirmed that the coordinates were accurate, so I doubled back closer to the path than where I was, and what do you know - there it was!

Great to grab such an old cache, almost like grabbing a piece of history.

What a fantastic old cache! Took me a while to get my phone GPS to agree where GZ would be, but got there eventually to find a very well maintained cache. A beautiful view, and a nice spot to sit and write in the log. The goodenia's had just started flowering, and were looking beautiful at GZ. Thanks geodesy#5 for keeping this alive and maintained!

I was inspired last weekend to go hiking each weekend, after seeing some amazing orchids around Black Mountain and Aranda Bushland. I decided to come back out to Black Mountain this weekend, with the goal of finding an old cache and looking for orchids around the summit. I found both, so thoroughly enjoyed the walk (even though I did forget how steep the summit trail is on the way back up). Thanks to all the cache owners for the great caches!

We were staying in walking distance of here, but were leaving tomorrow and I still hadn't come here. So this morning I crunched off over the frosty ground and up the hill to this one. I was thoroughly thawed by the time I signed. Thanks geodesy#5 for keeping this one in the game so long.

This weekend from 17-21/06/2021, I joined georode and gridge98 in visiting our nation's capital, Canberra for geocaching adventures. We prioritised the higher difficulty-terrain combinations, as well as the more special/unique cache types.
On Thursday, I largely spent the day solo and visited Black Hill lookout, the Botanic Gardens, Australian National University and nearby Canberra Central, and then gridge98 and I walked around the front of Parliament area in Parkes.
Friday was spent completing a few hikes in Goorooyarroo Nature Reserve and Kowen Escarpment Nature Reserve, before then meeting locals at a Friday evening dinner event.
Saturday was predominantly the UFO series in Bullen Range Conservation Reserve, targeting the higher terrain ridge area.
On Sunday, we arose to the morning's CITO event, before returning to Goorooyarroo Reserve for more walking around those hills.
Finally on Monday, gridge98 and I headed north to Yass for the Birds of Australia Wherigo series, a few climbing caches, and returning to ACT completing the UGC series.

Today, I took ownership of our rental car, with my aim of heading to the lower Black Mountain challenges. However, I was lured by the virtual cache at the top of the mountain, and so that became my first stop. A short jog around the hill, and then great views at the top of Telstra Tower.
My next visit was the Australian National Botanic Gardens, completing the *Australia's Garden* and *The Rainforest Walk* Adventure Labs. It was then on to the challenges around lower Black Mountain, spending a few hours walking around before the rain fell later in the afternoon.
My afternoon was then spent touring around Australian National University whilst following a few more Adventure Labs: *ANU*, *Everyone's a critic!* and *What's in a name?*. I then had a walk in downtown Canberra and visited Glebe Park completing that *Glebe Park Wander* Adventure Lab.
After dinner, gridge98 was grabbed from the airport, and we explored some of Parkes in front of Parliament House. A few more virtual, wherigos and Adventure Labs were completed, and we made one last stop at the National Carillon.

As I jogged around the top of this mountain, I thought I would definitely detour past this oldie, and it was good to have found this 10/2001 hidden cache in the process! As it turned out, this cache was a quick find, and the cache container and logbook were in good shape. I picked up a DRT pathtag too. Thanks geodesy#5 for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

On a Tuesday I work from home and normally finish up abit early and go on a mini mission in the afternoon to make up for not leaving the house for work and the normal exercise that intales. Todays mission was to visit the Botanic Gardens and pick up the 2 ALs in there before heading up to grab one of the old Canberra caches "Geocache" and visit the nearby tower to take some photos and collect the Virtual there. Then I would simply cache my way home til I ran out of caches to find or time which ever came first.

After the walk in th nearby Botanical Gardens I drove to the top and walked down to get this one. Walking back up was a lot more effort than walking down but I did it none the less.

OCW *Little Panther* and *DustyJapserJet* attending some events and finding some caches. I am on a mission today to acquire 12 cache types, and what better place than Canberra to achieve this mission. I am also looking at old caches to fill my Fizzy grid, so *Black Mountain* was the place to go. My 12 types on *Black Mountain* included an early traditional, an earth and virtual and a portion of an Adventure Lab.

Out again on the geocycle today. Should hit a milestone find as well as signing a few challenges and attending my first ACT event.

I had been collecting a few challenge caches on the other side of the hill. Up and over seemed like a reasonable idea. Twisted

Would have been smarter to hunt this the other day when I drove up the hill, but if life was easy.....[?][:o)]

Another box filled in for the Jasmer Calendar.

After a great Retreat, in Murrumbateman, over the weekend and still with some free time on my hands, I decided on heading into Canberra for the next couple of days after it. Monday 23/11, main focus was the older caches around the ACT which sort of panned out but with extra caches that I couldn’t pass by changed that. It was a great day visiting various places that I hadn’t and many others that I have. I also avenged my DNF on GC8PRBB and I found out that I am the first person to find this cache since August. Big Grin The only problem was that there was rain to begin the day but it cleared up pretty quickly. With Geocaching, a small spot of shopping and meal breaks it lead into a great day out. TB visit on all caches. I would like to thank all the CO’s of the caches I found and for allowing them to bring me and others enjoyment. Big Grin TFTC’s and TFTTP’s Big Grin

Second day of caching in Canberra this weekend. Weather looks a lot better then yesterday. With that said the bike came out if the car so I didn't drag it along the whole way for nothing. Lots of caches found again, thanks to all for hiding. Also made good progress towards a few goals.
