Logs
October 2009
25th
have been wanting to do this one for some time now as I drive past a couple of times a week. first time in ages for a clear run. maybe I should have read the logs first.
25th
I will try to get to this soon and see if it is missing.
I have been awway for a few weeks so unable to check yet
20th
Unfortunately I didn't read the logs before looking for this one. As a member of the club turned up (and had a quick lesson in Geocaching ) I was able to search thoroughly from both sides of the fence.
Sadly, I found nothing. It's gone.
17th
Log #12, suburban drive-by #9 for the day.
Normally I wouldn't log a maintenance request when I have a DNF, but the clue makes the GZ quite obvious and the cache isn't there. Checked all around, everywhere in the grass both sides of the fence in case cache has been moved slightly with no luck.
11th
umm, maybe I am blind Everlasting and I could not find the cache anyway thanks for organising the cache.
11th
I am sure it is missing unless I am careless.... Would be lovely someone check - thanks...

Nice easy find, had issues with the prison one due to the freezing cold so an obvious find was welcomed.

7th cache during my night time cache run. Found after midnight and a good thorough search where the hint suggests. Grass had plenty of dew on it.
Been here a few times to watch the "planes" come in! TFTC!
3rd
Found at 19:55 - the fifth of my night's caching with shell_seeker, matt_stomper and leechie.
Another quick find. I used to have to drive past here each weekday morning and evening, along with what seemed to be the rest of the population of Canberra. I would often look wistfully at the planes and wish I could escape in one. Too dark to see any tonight though.
An old XF Ford Falcon had careered off the highway earlier in the day and was still abandoned nearby - luckily nobody stopped to check it out whilst we were there.
Thanks Bezerker

Found on the 3rd September on a night caching trip with Leechie, Matt_stomper and SW2092. A car had run off the road not far from the cache. A keen cacher perhaps? :) TFTC

Found this with SW2092, matt_stomper and Shell_seeker.
Thanks..

Fourth find for the night with SW2092, Leechie and Shell_seeker.

Drove close by and could tell the tell-tale blue of sistema from the car. TFTC!
24th
Well I didn't spend too long on this, but did feel around from both sides of the fence (including tearing my shirt a little on the barb wire ) But the hint was fairly specific and I did find a tell-tale ziploc plastic bag in the ground next to the area indicated. Muggled?

I cannot tell you the number of times I drive past this location, and I will not tell you the number times i get distracted driving by watching these planes..hehehe. So it was nice to actually stop here and have a look around. took a millisecond longer then what i expected to find the cache, but all was good in the end. But now I will have to keep my eyes on the road, as I suspect I will get even more distracted trying to spot other cachers.... TFTC!

Doing a bit of a circuit while on the way to buy some new curtains (well overdue for them). Always thought this place deserved a cache when I used to drive past here on the way to work. No planes to speak of today, so will have to bring the geokiddies back another time. But the cache was in hand pretty quickly, even if GZ did take us a bit away from it. TFTC

Funny, I drive by twice a day and have been meaning to stop but thought it too hard. So when we do, it is all over in a matter of seconds.

Came by this one today watched the planes for a while then back to the car (parked right near cache) dropped keys oops' then picked up the prize and keys, then dropped keys again (so clumsy in this cold).

Three of the four red tag kids looooooove planes. I had to find this one for them and as luck would have it...I did
Thanks Bezerker

A couple of micro jumbo's out today. More folks renovating the shed than flying.

A nice quick find. We had recently found a cache at the Illawarra's version of this too! Shame it was all locked, love to watch the little planes fly - then again, would have distracted us from caching. Thanks for the cache Bezerker

A quick easy drive by this time
Thanks Bezerker.

Back to urban caching after a three week drive around the eastern half of Autralia. This one was trickier than expected, it hides in its corner very well. Thanks.

1983. Yep, too cold to stick around for the returning duties, seeing as it was so windy.
Thankfully able to finally cross this one off.
Pity the car didn't start - then we would have seen who had cold fingers and other assorted bits.

Came past on my way back home on a whole-of-Canberra caching circuit. Thanks Bezerker.

Out this morning with McPhan and RexTrex (McWinTrex reunited!) and after finding roads closed down south, to be perfectly honest we were looking for a few more caches, so that we could stay out and play and avoid going home to household jobs ! Both McPhan and Winglen had made repeated attempts to find this one, but always foiled with too many muggles at the site. Success at last today, thanks.
27th
Found in the company of McPhan and Mrs Winglen.
Spooky thing was that when we pulled off the road the car behind us pulled off onto the road edge and just sat there - no action, but possibly using a cellphone. McPhan and Mrs Winglen performed the 'human shield' manouvre while I plucked the cache from its resting place. We did the signing thing, then Mrs Winglen did the shield again to cover the return. Err, the McPhan shield? Nope, he had hopped back into the car where it was warm so that his sensitive driving fingers wouldn't get cold and stiffen up. Sigh, such is geocaching teamwork!
Thanks for the cache Bezerker.

A quick dash across the highway and the cache was very quickly in hand. We were in a rush before the rain started coming down again!
Cheers

Have to admit, Hoojar and I found this cache with using the clue. We didn't want to be hunting around too much in the cold and the wet wet rain at night.
cheers.

Found this one at 6:30 on the way to work, it seems that last time I was on the wrong side of the gate. A nice quick find.
Thanks Bezerker for the cache.

Found the stash early Sunday morning in its sneaky spot. Not much activity at the airfield as the winds were whipping up a bit at this stage. Thanks to Bezerker for the nice cache .

A nice and easy one. Left a geocoin (but it was grabbed before I could log the placement).
18th
Last one for the day and another nice easy one to finish off with as well. Would you believe that there was still one flyer in there playing with his planes just on dusk!. Still managed to retrive and sign this one off as he was busy flying and didn't even notice me there.

12th
I was heading from one cache to the next when I noticed this on the GPS and pulled over. The place was deserted and it seemed like and ideal time to nab the cache. A couple of minutes later I was on my way, cache reconcealed.
12th
I mean really shouldn't these people be somewhere else on Easter Sunday morning, instead of playing with toys? Didn't even bother stopping as there were heaps of fliers here today.
6th
Took a few drive by's to do this one. Each time too many people with their planes. Eventually had it in my hand at 7.00am this morning, only to look up and see two utes slowing down with there indicators on, which of course pulled into the plane field. Put it back and left, came back later in the day (work in Fyshwick) and filled in the log.
The airplane guys must have some idea it is there I would have thought. But, I would have hoped they would appreciate our sport, much like I appreciate theirs.

I arrived early afternoon this time, and had the place to myself. A much easier find in daylight. Still not keen on the barbed wire though.

Drove past this morning but the parking lot was crowded, must have been a big airshow on today! Decided to come back later. The evening was much better, just one car left inside which was good for us as we managed to drive inside the gate. Nice little hide here. GeoTeen nabbed the glass prawn and we left a TB Boomerang (well, boomerangs fly right?). TFTC and enjoyed the theme .
15th
I'm not sure the area has been cleaned up that much, still lattice lying around when we were here this morning but no barbed wire thankfully. With a lot of men playing with their toys and turning around to watch us, we couldn't look for long enough so we'll have to come back another time.
15th
Found with Wing6Rider after being led to the "other side" by the gps.
15th
I came out here this afternoon with Bezerker to help with the maintenance of this cache. Unfortunately the area showed signs of some very aggressive searching so we spent some time picking up all the rubbish, star picket's lattice and whatever else had been pulled out of the fence line. The place looks significantly better now.
Signed log, took nothing left Green Frog.

As I drove past I saw a car at the site, and thought it must be an airfield user about to depart. Then when I came back around I realised it was another caching family - congrats StevenWill for becoming Dinkum Aussies!
They had been searching for a while, expecting something smaller, but after re-reading the description & realising it was a 200ml sistema we sent the littlest member over to retrieve the cache. My last cache for the day - now time to do some chores . TFTC.

Yipee my 500 th find!! We parked in front of the locked gate and while searching around another car pulls up - I though we were gonna get it, but it turned out to be Tealby. We chatted and after she corrected our wrong information we sent the smallest member over to fetch. This is another of my old hobbies that I have not yet started up again but would love to. Great to meet you again Tealby. Signed log and off we went.

The first day this was logged I noticed two cachers searching at about 1715, today (Friday) another searching at about 1130....myself having a look with no luck yesterday......I must admit though I am enjoying watching others scratch their heads and stare at the GPS as I drive by....I think from now on I will "toot" all lookers, so if you are there and here a horn...."Guess Who!"

Some obvious searching going on here. Having read logs and clue we made a quick find today...

Second time lucky for this one. Arrived back at the GZ and re-checked the areas of my previous search and the cache was found within 30 seconds. Obviously been a few people here since my last visit as the area is getting torn up a bit.

I agree with Squirrel's coords, they definitely put you on the right part. Still a little bit of searching but I got it in the end. Constant but fairly light traffic along the Hwy.
12th
1282+13=1295
Well there was evidence of much intensive searching on both sides of the gate. I decided that it was likely that the coords were probably out, and that the hint could still appear valid even when this was true.
So I ignored where the gps was pointing and looked on the opposite side of the gate.
My gps told me that the cache was actually s35 21.803 e149 9.984 which is probably still rough but looks better on Google Earth too. GE can't usually be trusted too much but around inner Canberra it isn't too bad.
Thanks Bezerker for getting me to stop and see this location close up - I have seen many planes flying here. There is another toy airfield south of Tharwa too.

Searched for a while by torchlight. Got snagged by the barbed wire a couple of times for my trouble - be warned, its not all on the fence!

Plan A - Leave Woden Work, ride out to cache via Fyshwick, find cache, ride home via Hume & Tugg and get home well before dark !!
Plan B - "find cache" - I repeat find cache - darn it where is it!!!!!. Cache found, ride home in dark!!!! (Fortunately I always carry my bicycle lights, so that was no problem.)
No planes, big or small today, but I have seen lots of little ones here during the weekends, TFTC.

As Bezerker said, I received a phone call from him late this evening after noting 3xDNF's for his new cache. Downloaded the GPX file, and off I went. This one was not easy in the dark, and I defaulted to the hint straight away. Found the cache after 10min, and was very lucky in doing so. Vegetation is what is making this one a little difficult.
TFTC buddy....
10th
Ok, as there were 3 DNF's I contacted the Beagle Has landed and got him to navigate to and find the cache.
I am sure he will update you all soon.
But safe to say it is still there.
10th
Thought we might be first to DNF, but we can't even claim that accolade!
Arrived at 4pm and spent about 10 or 15 minutes searching...still can't believe a cache that size could be so elusive with so few hidey holes, but alas!
Thanks for the hunt anyhow.
10th
Arrived at a quiet time and began the search. 5 minutes later Big Matt arrives and we continued looking for about 10.
However, even with 2 sets of eyes, this little beast eluded us.
Thanks anyway, hopefully next time.
10th
As per Sol's log, No Luck today. For only one find the area was definitely showing the signs of other peoples search.
