This weekend, I am off for a solo overnight camping road trip. Yesterday, I drove out to Lake Boondooma via a little ride on the BVRT. This morning after a casual start and pack up of the tent, it's time to head home via the Gympie area and some more choice older geocaches. Given one of my earliest memories of geocaching is in Brooyar Forest in 2009, I have done (I believe) just one trip since into here. But that last wasn't so long ago, and I know I can drive all the way through in my hatchback.Back then though, I baulked on these last two geocaches. Namely, because I was in more of a rush. Today though, I have plenty of time to go slow, walk and stay safe. Coming in from Petersen Avenue, I headed up Point Pure Road towards here. There had been a bunch of DNFs at my last visit, so I didn't even stop then, just drove by. But I parked in the convenient one-car space and took the trail towards GZ.Getting to the end here, is that I didn't quite attempt this geocache. I found the track down under the caves, but stumbled across a very strange scene. Ropes hung from above and loads of newly fallen trees littered the whole slope. It was all a bit odd. It was clear I had to go down in a big way, but the trees made it nearly impossible, combined with well, being alone.Instead I chose to head up and see if I was interrupting some abseiling. At the top, dozens of trees have been cut off and shoved over the edge. I can't fathom why - it doesn't seem they were even in the way of the view. And the ropes hanging down - abandoned. I snapped some photos, figuring I'll alert National Parks of the eco-vandalism. But knowing I was alone, I headed back down to the caves, now feeling uneasy about being here. After some talking to myself, I made a start down the scramble and boulders, but it just wasn't safe today. As much as I could claim I got down there and back; I just didn't I'd rather experience this properly, and maybe bring a friend in case I get eaten by a snake or break an ankle. I did though, enjoy seeing these otherwise hidden caves and revisiting Brooyar! Next time, weroamin.

Out with Bris, & the M& her Cubs, our intent is to wrestle a for the September Challenge. After checked what was available to us (more so me) we made plans and today we all started once again at sparrows to commence a long day racing about like crazy cachers.

1st off a Fav Point we loved the location, the find, the container. The Location has the possibility of also being an Earth Cache; the rock formations are spectacular!!!

We all had a great day today but it was long day.

Muggle65, Brislions, Mama Bear, The Cubs, and I set out in the dark to collect Camping Nearby attributes today. I made the find here today and log book was lovely and dry. Absolutely loved this area and could have happily spent ages here. It was so beautiful and so much fun playing on the rocks. A fave point from me as l thought about this spot all day. Thank you for the fun

Got down low and identified the correct location. The tree in the middle is now missing and the big rock is obscured by a shrub but located it easily and then the hide which was empty. Then looked down and spotted the container at my feet. Thanks for the cache

Despite many of us looking for quite a long time up and down this cache alluded us. Thanks for bringing us to this great spot tho.

No luck here today. Eight of us on the hunt - no can see. Over sixteen months since the last find. Is it still here?

12-Jul-20
Out 'n about with with Grey Parrots, Snickersallan, DiamonJS, Echocage1 and RoddyC for that day at Kilkiven.
This one was targeted by RoddyC and most of us pitched in to scour the cliff face. Spectacular wind-eroded cave system in the cliff-face but the cache eluded us even though we were comparing tree locations in the photos!
Great to see masses of undisturbed Dendrobium Linguiform and native Hoya on the rocks.
Hope other visitors leave them undisturbed.

Eight pairs of eyes looking today in this beautiful rock formationed area but unfortunately not luck for us today. Thanks CO.

Continuing our scenic drive through Brooyar forest after a nice picnic lunch at Glastonbury creek, we pulled up here for a quick look as gz was less than 50m from where we parked. We had followed some sort of track off the main road and up the hill for a little way. J headed up to the top to see what he could see and I ventured along into the caves to see whether it really was possible to reach the gz from where we were. I was disheartened as I could see that I needed to go further down off the edge of the cliffs and thought the way would have to be back downhill and around the edge of the cliffs.
I waited for J, then showing him the caves, I noticed that there was a way down - a narrow track zigzagging in between the rocks maybe used by climbers. We carefully negotiated the track and J got further below trying to match up the gallery pictures with our location. Meanwhile, I started looking in a few little crevices for anything cache-like. We admired the button orchids and hoya vines all the way along the cliffs, and the wide variety of lichens covering the rocks.
I jumped down to another ledge while J was still having trouble with the photos, and turned around and suddenly spotted the cache sneakily hidden in its narrow hide. J couldn't believe I'd found it without his ingenious photo-matching task complete. We then realised that the main tree below gz in the gallery photos has fallen and is only but a stump now so the scene looks quite different. We could see the rocks matching now when comparing our photo to the others, although the lichen/moss covering pattern has changed over the years.
Quick sign - more photos, then climbed back up to the caves and then up around to the car.
We then ventured around to the lookouts to find some climbers sweating with the late afternoon sun beating down on them as they ascended the cliff. We'll save the rest of these caches for later as we went the wrong way for one and decided it was time to start on the homeward journey.

We chose this cache today for International Geocaching Day.
We had lunch in Gympie before heading to GZ.
Headed in on the nice rough road and the corrugations made our teeth chatter.
Arrived at the parking area and headed in.
I really like the overhang caves.
Lots of nooks and crannies and trying to match up the scenery.
There are heaps of places to hide this little beauty.
At last after about twenty minutes we came up with the bounty.
Photo taken of site and cache signed and replaced.

A lot of satisfaction in finding this one! I clambered precariously around the rock shelves until my phone told me I was 2m away. No luck. Remembered that my phone's location sense is haphazard. Then I studied the photo and began looking for a distinctive tree. Fun fact: it has fallen down since 2008. But the cache should still be there. After a bit more clambering and shining my torch into crevices I straightened up and behold, there it was! So I signed and sat admiring the view feeling very pleased with myself. Thanks for the puzzle and the exercise.

Out in the Brooyar State Forest with Sweet-Sour today. Whilst I was finding the caches, Sweet-Sour were finding the ones he hadn't found and performing maintenance on his own caches.

After climbing a steep hill on a previous cache this one required a steep decent to commence with. After parking at a suitable spot and commencing the walk along a track the rock formations were stunning and we commented on the amount of time that it would take the elements to shape the rocks into the various formations.

It took a while to find GZ as the the GPS was bouncing around and I commenced my search at one level too low to no avail. After coming up one level and searching further the cache was eventually located.

The log was signed and returned to the cache and the cache replaced exactly as found.

All is good with this cache.

Out today with CDAH55, mainly in Brooyer State Forest checking on the health of my caches and the other 3 for far away CO's.

Had a moment of dread Sad when CDAH55 was taking so long to find the cache. Into the rescue Coolhad to climb down from my vantage point, Sad sorry mate it's gone Sad
Then CDAH55 produced a small torch with just enough light to illuminate the crevice far enough Cool there it is, now we need an extraction tool, we are very grateful to nature for providing such a tool Razz
Container recovered and I have the pleasure to report all is Razz with this one.

*Please don't push it into it's hide to far*

Happy caching Sweet-Sour

Now this has to be up there with one of the best spots that I have discovered whilst Geocaching and for that I have to award a Fav' Point.

We started off at the parking waypoint and started the journey... We were doing alright until the track began to disappear and then we were kind-of on our own. We were doing alright and made our way around. Every so often a little glimpse of a track would appear reassuring us we were where we should be.

We got to GZ and started looking around OMG... It could be ANYWHERE. We checked the GPSr. 'WHAT, IMAGES... THEY ARE NOT A GPSr' we said!!!!! We didn't have any phones, this was impossible. So we decided that we would have to go back and get a phone!!! After some orienteering we found that there is a MUCH EASIER way to get to where we needed to be.

After getting the phone we decided to have lunch whilst up in the caves and this was amazing as just as we did, rain began to fall in the valley in front of us. It was so tranquil and amazing all whilst making you appreciate the playground that we are lucky enough to have.

After lunch we started the hunt and have to say that the area has changed alot since the photo was taken. Utilising the formations was what got us to where we need to be. Not before long, we had the cache in hand.

This cache was part of a trip that I shared with Fairy Mother to celebrate a belated Mother's Day. Fairy Mother decided that on her day, she wanted to hunt in an area we both love. That area, hands down, no doubt about, was the bush.

The lucky place chosen to be cleaned up today was the Brooyar State Forest, which you could say is Fairy Mother's backyard. It was a great day and as normal we got lost, went the wrong way, did a million 20-point turns on narrow dirt roads all whilst taking the hardest route possible to GZ. But, you know what, WE ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT and that's how we Geocache!

Thank you for the cache weroamin and for showing me such an amazing place! All is in good order.

Arrived at GZ after climbing down with Geo wife and Geo kids 3, 5 and 6. Given the strong possibility of a fall, the Geo kids were sat on a large boulder and put on notice to sit still!

My GPS had some serious issues with bouncing and just couldn't get a truely accurate lock. Scratching our heads, I referred to the hint. Ohhh, bugger! GPS didn't have the CO's photos on it and the phones were in the car.

Quick dash back after bringing the Geo kids up to a higher level.

Sneak peak at the photographs and begun trying to position myself accordingly. Found the tree with the archway...albeit a little...dead?

Headed back to where the Geo kids were sat and...yep, there it was. Practically under their backsides the whole time!

Signed and returned.

The overhang/cliff faces were awesome and would never have known of the area without the cache.

FP awarded.

I was visiting the area from Brisbane - I had neglected to visit it for wayyyy too long.

This cache was perhaps my favourite for the day. I parked up and walked in toward GZ. Hmmm.. GPSr wants me somewhere else...

I had fleeting memories of a Challenge cache in Sydney come flying back. Thankfully, the approach for this one ended up being just as easy.

Wow - there's some interesting cave action going in here. I picked my way down. The GPSr thought I should be right on top of it. The GPSr also had a huge rock structure right next to it though Twisted

I checked the picture online (thankfully I had service here). I looked for matching items in the picture... and it took quite a while. Then suddenly I realised that not all the "items" in the picture are.. hmmm.. in such good "condition" anymore. And then soon after, I spotted where the beastie would reside. I hoisted myself to where gerrynewgirl stood nearly 7 years ago..... and soon found me a cache Big Grin It was in good condition.

I signed the log and re-hid it as found. I picked my way back up and headed to the car. What a fun cache to do. TFTC weroamin and gerrynewgirl Smile

Parked the geomobile and walked into this one. I should have looked at the terrain level any way we were here to do the cache so armed with the Garmin we made our wY across to where we thought it would be nope it must be there, So around we go and finally arrive at a point closer to GZ. A look at the pics on the iPhone we knew we were close as there was a tree that was in the pics that had fallen below. When I had climbed over to where Mrs. K. Thought was the rock I looked across and could see the top of the container sticking out of the cracks "oh a happy dance was done".
Signed the long logbook 2:20 pm and returned all as found. And back for a rest at the geomobile.

After joining in with Mr and Mrs Cantcacheus2014 on there 1000th cache find at the kings tomb, the remaining caches is this beautiful neck of the woods needed to be found by days end. It was an adventurous spotting a snake, breeding pair of wedge tailed eagles close by, a cicada emerging from its shell what an amazing thing to see. Luckily it hasn't rained as much up here as Brisbane currently, the 4wd handled the terrain with ease. Knowing the terrain levels of these caches we knew todays work would be hard and challenging at times. What a magnificent spot, the view was incredible!! Before reading the hint or the description we head off to quick (eager beavers) and soon found ourselves at the wrong altitude. Looking at GZ we were only 9m away but still took 20mins to get there. On the approach to GZ there were caves appearing everywhere, caves big enough to camp in.. We spent easily another 10mins searching before reading the hint and MRS CantCacheUS2014 found the treasure. After some photos of the views and caves we set back off to the car. TFTC

Wow the views from above are really something. We searched for quite a while at the wrong altitude before refering to a PAF. WE had not looked at any photos and did not have access to them at GZ. The PAF certainly helped and we soon had the cache. Loved the area. It is easy to give favourite points for this type of cache.

Found with stairman1 and geodog. What a fantastic spot. Smile. Out in the State Forest and this was the next one on our radar. I slipped on my hiking boots and headed up the hill. At 9.00 a.m. it was 35 degrees. This one caused us much grief. The GPS kept telling us where to go but we didn't believe it. We searched high and low for about half an hour and decided a PAF was in order. After a clue stairman1 searched in different places. After some more looking he located the container. We were so happy to have found this one and our names are now inside. The temperature was rising by the minute so we quickly got out of there. Thanks for this great cache. This one gets a favourite from me.

Awesome caves here! Really enjoyed this hunt with geoson. There were many calls of "This is the rock! Oh no, it's not..." before we finally got the right one, and the cache soon after. The photos make for a fun hunt and not necessarily an easy one. However my geoson insisted on squirming on a rock above me and showering me with debris, and then I was the one squirming for the rest of the day. No writing stick in cache (we always carry our own, so no probs). TFTC weroamin and gerrynewgirl.

I have accepted Konie's FTF for this cache unless the player who previously claimed this honour can provide evidence that he actually found the cache and neglected to sign the log for some reason. There was a writing stick included in the cache.

Congratulations Konie, it is about time you found this one anyway!!!

I was near the area a while back but couldn't remember what the details were for the cache. Returning home today I decided to stop by and after a short search found the cache at 0920hrs. Imagine my surprise when I found that I was the FTF! The log book had no entries and after checking the PDA I was still confused as there was an entry as found on the 30 Sep 08. I'll claim the FTF as there's no name in the book and I think that's a must for a FTF. (any find actually or at least a mark of some kind)

So thanks for the challenge and yes the area does play havoc with the GPS. The GPS did settle eventually and the clues supplied are more than enough help.

Thanks for taking me back to a great area.
