Description

Murals of Australia

I remember a trip I made once to Sheffield in Tasmania that had a lot of buildings painted with murals

A lot of places have had artists paint murals on buildings (no graffiti)

This locationless is designed to find what places have been painted

To claim this cache you need to include a photo with either you or your GPSr in the photo

In your log please supply the town/suburb, the building that was painted, the Co-ordinates and if signed the artist's name and date of the mural

Also if you know the story behind the painting would be good for others interested to know

Enjoy

Mural Fest 2018 Winner - Many Hats by Gren Freeman

The International Mural Fest is a truly unique art competition held annually in Sheffield – the ‘Town of Murals’, in Tasmania, Australia. Commencing Easter Sunday every year, Mural Fest is so successful that similar events are now happening interstate and overseas.

Each year, nine artists compete in a public ‘paint off’ from Easter Sunday to the following Saturday. Each artist must complete a 2100mm x 4800mm mural, using the same poem as their mural’s central theme and inspiration. Each year a new poem is selected, meaning no two Mural Fests are ever the same.

The competition is conducted in Mural Park – Sheffield’s very own outdoor art gallery in the heart of Tasmania’s Cradle Mountain touring region.

Mural Fest tests artistic skill, endurance and tenacity: artists are subjected to public scrutiny, time constraints and sometimes unpredictable Tasmanian weather!

At the end of the paint off week, a panel of qualified judges decides the winner of the event’s major prize, the $15,000 Tasmazia Prize Award. The Judges also decide the winner of the $5,000 World Of Marbles Highly Commended Award.
During the paint off week, visitors and supporters who come to Mural Park to view the progress are encouraged to vote for their favourite artwork. At the end of the week, the artist whose painting receives the most votes is awarded the $2,000 “Slaters Country Store Award“.

All murals remain on display in Mural Park until the next year’s Mural Fest.

People who visit Sheffield during this period delight in viewing the completed murals. Visitors can also vote for their favourite artwork, but this time the vote is conducted over the 12 month period. The artist whose painting receives the most votes over this extended period is awarded the “Yet to be named” $1,000 Award.

There is an area in Barcaldine that has been established and maintained to display Australian Aboriginal manufactured products. The building in the photo is the Barcaldine laundromat which is adjoined to the external Display area and a business. The Barcy Base Camp is a good spot for refreshments and the entrance to the outdoor entertainment area and the display areas.

Hello phlphotos thanks for the cache.

I went down to Cygnet to get some caches and spotted this mural on the side of the building.

I don't know the artists name as it's behind the sign it was painted in 2002.

The painting is of a view of Cygnet in 1915.

Noticed someone else had one of the Dubbo murals for this locationless, but not the one that particularly impressed us.
It is also part of the Dubbo Street Art GCA caching series, which takes you around the various murals in the city.
Thanks.

I was looking for a cache near by and noticed this mural. It was painted on the back of the Yeppoon Visitors Information Centre and I could not see the artist name on it. This mural is so big I had to take photos in sections. It is an Australiana Themed mural showing woman naval workers, the FJ Holden cars , a wood chopper logging depiction also two world war 1 soldiers in a dark tunnel plus lots of little hidden animals in the shrubbery and trees. Green frogs, butterflies, galahs in the trees. It is on the back of a commercial building in Underwood Queensland. the artist is Rahner and it is dated 04...but I am pretty sure I had not seen it way back then, going by the paint I would say it was later than that...more like 2014.TFTCphlphotos Clan PhoenixClan PhoenixClan Phoenix

Birgitte Hansen Studio with Murals

I've heard that Ms. Hansen has closed down her locally famous Blackheath (Blue Mountains) studio and is moving to Newcastle!

So I took the opportunity to stop by while driving on the Great Western Highway, and take some photos.

Found on a building (not sure of it's purpose) in Beaman Park, Earlwood, while doing some cache maintenance for Zalgariath. I particularly like the kookaburra/chameleon looking creature on the left and wonder if the one on the right is a spring time warning of the potential hazards in the area.

Travelling from Mildura to Ballarat recently caching as we went and one of the little towns we stopped at was Brim, population about 100. Brim has the most magnificent painted grain silos you've ever seen. The four silos each have a 30 metre high painting of a local person from the area. The paintings were finished in January this year and were painted by Guido van Helten from Brisbane. As a tourism effort they have been very successful, while we were there there was a constant stream of people pulling up taking photos. There are also three caches here based on the Brim silo art. Not sure this is exactly a mural or a social commentary on I don't know what. The pattern looks like it was placed over an unpainted section of wall that may have had something on it in the past. The blobby eyed guy, I really don't know where he fits in. Found on Wardell Rd, Dulwich Hill.

The "structure" (which we couldn't work out it's actual purpose) is located at picnic spot on the shores of the Kincumber Broadwater, Kincumbuer. Didn't matter what it was, you were allowed to climb it - even the geodog made it. Rosellas on one side and a kookaburra on the other. Shame we couldn't find the cache on the wharf at this spot.

Picking up my dear wife after 24 hours in Nepean hospital, we came across a garden area with an aboriginal these. This hospital is no much more interesting than it was 10m years ago. A lot of thought has gone into making it visually appealing in many ways. This is just one.

18-Sep-15
While my dear wife was recovering in the emergency ward of Nepean hospital, (after an asthma attack) we all looked to the ceiling to these beautiful artworks of nature. I wondered if they were just prints stuck to the ceiling, but appreciated how they could take you attention away from pain or boredom. As Dee was wheeled away to another ward, another one caught my eye. I took a quick shot, then another of the artist's name...sorry for the lack of focus.

This one is not far from Blackwattle Bay in Sydney. I followed the path from a bridge to a geocache...and there it was.
