Description

This little moveable is one of a series of ten which have a monopoly on the GA4740's. Some of these little tokens are very obviously travel related, others less so, but do not be fooled. These tokens have been travelling some of the worlds most famous streets for in excess of seventy years. The dog one of the later tokens. It was first introduced to the standard set of pieces post war.

Dogs have had a long history of involvement in transport. Apart from the obvious dog sleds, they have also been used for pulling delivery carts. I've not been able to locate any evidence that Scottish Terriers were used for this duty but they come from a canny race where you wouldn't use a horse if a pony would do!

We like to include a FTF pathtag in our hides but this was obviously impractical with these little magnetics. Instead we have decided to offer a FTF pathtag to the first ten teams to find all ten tokens. This offer is for the duration of "Bingo", so if you find all ten before the end of January, just PM us with your dates and a mailing address and you have a very good chance of receiving a FTF tag. There's ten caches so we're offering ten tags. We're not keeping count so first in, best dressed!

This is a Bingo cache so we ask finders to respect the rules. Please do not log a find unless you are prepared to move this cache to a new location at least one kilometre from where you found it.

I fear this little guy has gone. The last location could have seen him picked up by a muggle and either thrown in the bin as rubbish or taken home. A busy area, especially on weekends, so it could be the end of him as a moveable...

10-Jul-19
Has probably hitchhiked with another cache. Not difficult given it's size Sad

I went looking for this cache without reading the date correctly. If I had realised it was over a year unfound I would not have wasted my time. Nothing to find here except a spent cartridge of some kind? calibre?

I found this little Scotty Dog hanging out with two gnomes under a log. At first, I didn't realise that he was a separate geocache. I have moved him to a location where he can see lots of his doggy friends. Very Happy

Dog gone dog didn't come when he was called.

12-Dec-16
Called by on my way back past and the wee dog is exactly where I placed him yesterday. I didn't really give the GPS time to settle but it seemed like the coordinates are about 5m out, still the hint's pretty clear.
This is a very small dog; could just about use a nano container for a kennel! Will require some careful feeling to locate. Very Happy

Passing by today I called in to check on our little dog after a DNF. To my surprise he was right where the hint said. Sitting patiently awaiting collection. I was going to leave him there as it was an excellent hide but I noticed I was being closely observed by a young muggle on a bicycle on the other side of the creek. Better safe than sorry so the wee dog is currently travelling with us. Will get back out soon. Very Happy

I decided to leave him there as with the size I'll be afraid he'd get lost in my luggage when flying home.

Thanks Nutwood33....nice little cache.

This is a tiny dog so it got left behind in my bag when I was putting the other moveables out. A quick rummage through my bag and there he was attached by his magnet to a mint tin. The magnet attached to the little dog makes him easy to hide on metallic objects. Look carefully for him as he is tiny. There are many other geocaches in close proximity to this little dog so take a walk around or if you already have them then the little Dog will just be a park & grab.

29-Jul-15
What else can you do on a wet day but go caching - saw there were several moveables waiting to be found in this area that I had not visited since I was a child and lived down here. Still a beautiful area even on a rainy winters day. Thanks for bringing me back down here. Found easily thanks to accurate coordinates & hint.

This little dog has been sitting down in the wilderness at New River Lagoon for too long so he finished the South Coast walk with me and is ready to move on.

I grabbed the little terrier from New River Lagoon as dogs aren't allowed in national parks.

"The Dog" is currently residing in a new geocache GC45066 at New River Lagoon. I have posted a note on the listing so he doesn't get confused as a trade(or TB) by other caches not aware of Geocaching Australia.

This cache has undergone some intensive work as it had become very hard to see.
First the keyring was replaced, this made it easier to discern where the cache was, but the tag was still hard to make out so it was also replaced.
This was all well and good but the dog remained hard to see so he was replaced as well. This appears to have sorted the problem!
Many thanks to Makky Brown, 2y'stassies and a small manual entitled "How to fix grandads axe".

17-Jan-13
Understand 2ys. But to my understanding oldsaint looked for the four that most people in the south are missing to have them not be there. I know he did not log a dnf for them. We all know that people don't necessarily log dnf's. I am happy to go out and search for any that are missing, and for my caches replace if necessary.

As I offered by email recently, I can move any up north that you know need to come up that way. (With one exception - I am not bringing the trailer)

17-Jan-13
Come on Nutty
Please get him back out there!
I've replaced two of mine as soon as they went missing so that all cachers still had the opportunity to log them in order to complete their cards. The two were "On the High Seas" and "A Cost to Move." It's called co-operation.
Remember, you asked me to keep mine in the game right at the start the BINGO Race as others were relying on them to complete their cards.
I think I said "The whole is greater than the one!"
It would be good if this little character is put back in the race ASAP so that those who have not found it have that opportunity.
Cheers and thanks
OldSaint.

17-Jan-13
Interesting comment Budgietas. There are only 2 caches in NW with logged DNF's but there are 8 in the South.

17-Jan-13
Yes - it seems to be an issue on the northwest coast at the moment. I know Oldsaint was looking for a few a couple of days ago and could not find them, and they still have not been logged as found.

This one seems to have been muggled, as there was a DNF on the 4th of January. Hopefully nobody has found it on the 3rd and not logged it for a fortnight..... Gee I was getting in trouble for not logging them after 6 hours.

17-Jan-13
Hi Nutwood

We are happy to offer a replacement - many of the southern cachers need this number to complete there card - but can we offer a replacement so we can complete our cards

Bt

13-Jan-13
It appears The Dog has vanished on his own business. Previous hiders have checked and he's not to be found. A quick trip to the vet might have saved this problem but for the moment he's out of the game.
We're considering options.

04-Jan-13
No luck today. With such a specific clue, very surprised that it was not found. Suppose it is possible that it has ben picked up and not logged.

First nano transport moveable we've seen so far! The retrieval was a bit unpleasant, though. Missed the turnoff so had to stop right beside the highway with cars zooming past... the cache was very tiny and well camouflaged, which made it extremely difficult to find. My partner almost gave up, but we needed the number so thankfully he persevered and we got it in the end and got out of there!!
