Description
Snap a Photo of Yourself on the RTA Randwick Traffic Cam!
Road Web-Cam Series #3: Alison Rd Randwick
(The Rest of the Series: #1 Ashfield, #2 Strathfield, #4 Kogarah, #5 CBD)
With my increasing interest in GCA I have been looking into ways to fully utilise the wide range of caching options it provides. When thinking about A Real Busy Day (12 for 1) and A Busy Day (8 for 1) I commented on their difficulty due to the lack of "Rare" cache types. While I don't mean to flood the market so to speak I think there is lots of room to spread the different experiences these caches can provide! SO! Let's learn more about Webcam Caches; a type many cachers may not have encountered before.
To Log a Webcam Cache:
- Head to the listed Co-Ords
- Stand in the Right Spot Facing the Camera (Where I am! ... see the photo below :S)
- Either with your own Smart Phone / Pocket PC, or with the aid of a friend on a computer over the phone, go to the Online Site hosting the webcam. It may be specifically set up by the Cache Owner, or as in this case, utilising a Public Webcam. For today head to the RTA Live Traffic Webcam for Alison Rd Randwick.
- Hold Your GPS and Arms in the air.
- Be aware that most Webcams are STILL cameras that only refresh every-so-often. Hit the "Refresh Button" until you get your good self on screen. (In this case every 60 seconds, but others may vary)
- Right Click the Image of you and Save Image As a JPG file.
- Log the Cache as normal (except it will be a "Photographed" instead of "Found It" Log)
- Upload your photo! (You can do this au-natural or like me highlight yourself in some manner with editting).
Series Bonus Cache Info: In all there are 6 Caches in the Road Web-Cam Series. At this, and the other four GCA Web-Cams you need to collect an Additional Piece of Information! These clues will lead you to "Webcam Resurrection" (GC2KZR6) Mystery Cache hidden in the Inner West of Sydney.
For RWCS#3 Randwick find the Metal Plate with NSW on it which is located on the Traffic Island you should be standing on. Record the 3 Letters on it represented by the Red X's in the photo below, you will need this to solve the Final Puzzle Cache!
All Done! You Have Successfully logged a Webcam Cache!
Discalimer: I don't own or operate this webcam and it is at the mercy of the NSW RTA!

Thanks, Zalgariath, for something different.
Found at 12:20 PM
I am there in my yellow NCFC shirt.
We walked for 450m to this one to find parking within 50m!?! D'oh!
Take #3 - The hardest part at night is getting in a spot that you can be seen, especially when the rain is pouring down. Even with the high vis vest is is a hard one to spot.
The start of this challenge is certainly a wet one tonight. I might leave the others till tomorrow when it is drier. Now where is the wet smiley?
Thanks for the series Zal
Found the spot to stand and got a nice yellow cement truck to pose as well.
Took a screen shot on the mobile using the Sydney Traffic app which give you easy access to the RTA cam feeds.
Thanks for the cache Zalgariath.
This was my first webcam so it was fun! It was a pretty hot day to take a 1 hour hike in the middle of the day but I get a tripple bonus for this cache, 1st I get the smilie, 2nd i get to log a cache on 14th Jan which was blank in my caching calender and 3rd, I know what xxx is (but not what to do with it although i've tried a lot of things so far )
Thanks Zal, another obsession started of course.
Dont forget to grab the clue at each one... you are lucky! People who dont use GCA are going to have a MUCH harder time trying to solve "Webcam Resurrection" (GC2KZR6)
