Description

This is a special Burke & Wills cache listed on Geocaching Australia.

This cache requires you to visit a Burke & Wills historical location and take a photo as described along with your GPS receiver and if possible yourself in the picture. Once you have logged this cache as a find, you are required to load your picture to your log to validate your find.

Validating Your Log
Take a picture of your GPS receiver showing the same co-ordinates as the cache page (plus or minus 100 meters) and attach it to your online log.

Important Information
The Burke Wills Historical Society notes: "The actual route Burke and Wills followed once they left Camp 78 is unknown and one of the most intensely debated issues. Wills' map and some of his journals containing astronomical observations have been lost. Because the journals have never been transcribed, it means the expedition's track north of the Diamantina, through the gibber rises, confused sand dunes and extensive claypans, is a matter for conjecture."
Travel in Outback Australia can be extremely hazardous. Plan your trip with care and seek and follow local advice on what precautions to take. Be aware of private property restrictions. Do not risk your life to log this geocache.

About This Location
The broaching of yet another mountain range at a place the Burke party called King's Gap ended at Corella Creek, which they followed northward from January 21 to February 9. Wills determined that they were approaching the Gulf of Carpentaria and announced they were "in the country that had been discovered by Mr Gregory and other previous explorers".
But the wet season had arrived and the going was dreadful, the men frequently knee-deep in floodwaters and the camels floundering in mud.

Pulled up, walked the centre of the road and took the necessary pictures of my GPS. Lucky there is not much traffic along here. TFTC Geocaching Australia.

Great Northern escape 2022 Day 65. Croydon to Gregory via Normanton and Four ways. It seems today was a bit longer than expected, and with not much to do along the way. I stopped at a few rest stops and even bought some food at the roadhouse at four ways. I eventually pulled into Gregory and found a spot to set up for the evening.

This virtual was just on the side of the road. I am sure it was a great place to camp back in the day, imagine all those trucks in the night ! NOT !

Thanks for the cache Geocaching Australia

Travelling around Australia and currently exploring Outback Queensland.

We managed to find this cache whilst we explored Gregory, Lawn Hill, Burketown, Karumba and Normanton.

Stopped on the side of the road with caravan on tow so a very quick stop indeed.

Talk about a virtual in the middle of nowhere. Don't know why the B&W party would choose this as a camp spot. But thanks anyway.

Found by Sunshine Toledo and Her Majesty at 2:00pm. This B&W location is right beside the road between the Burke and Wills Roadhouse and Normanton in far north Qld near the Gulf.
I think all the other caches that are in the B&W series in this area are all on Private Property and are off-road and difficult to access. Mind the crocs!!
