Description

Come one, come all to the 10th Anniversary Virtual Event.

Lane Cove was hidden on 18-May-2000, so 18-May-2010 will see the 10th anniversary of geocaching in Australia.

Geocaching Australia would like to have celebrated this momentous occasion by gathering all of the GCA members together in one place for a fun event. With the Wagga Wagga Mega-Event in April this year and a number of members in more rural and remote locations the logistics are simply too hard to arrange.

So instead, and to celebrate the 10th anniversary of geocaching in Australia we will be holding an event virtually rather than physically with the intent of bringing GCA members together, regardless of where they may be located around the world.

We invite you to mark the anniversary by gathering together in the Geocaching Australia forums and via this special event cache listed on Geocaching Australia. We will post a special forum thread for the virtual gathering on the 18th May 2010.

The event has physical co-ordinates but it will only be a virtual event in terms of people gathering together.
Please do not go to this location as part of the event.
There will be no-one in attendance.

There is a nano geocache container at the posted co-ordinates. This is for those people who feel they must sign a logbook in order to claim a find. You are welcome to attend the virtual event and find the nano cache at your convenience (or at least until it gets muggled).

The co-ordinates are the approximate location of the Geocaching Australia server which is in a secured co-location data centre and is not accessible to the general public.

The event is a virtual event for all and sundry to join in on and make a log of what you have done and enjoyed over the last 10 years of geocaching in Australia.

We really hope you will join in the fun.

Thanks to all 121 cachers who took the time and effort to join in our virtual event.
It was an excellent read of all the logs and the way that the game has been played over the last 10 years.
Here's to the next 10.
The third largest event in Australian geocaching history.

18-May-10
I've been caching for about 3.5 years now and still loving it. Although I'm not a mad numbers man, I love the places that geocaching has taken me. I loved the Wagga Mega Event and I look forward to the next 10 years and the next Mega Event!

18-May-10
Like many others, I didn't have the opportunity to find any caches on the anniversary proper (other than this one), but I was certainly active. Like many evenings recently, I spent my time planning forthcoming caching adventures by pouring over puzzles and mulling over maps.

18-May-10
Well done Happy Birthday\long may it continue

18-May-10
My first cache find on 4th August 2004 was "Waite For It" by Alex, a stalwart of the Australian caching community. My log read "This was our first cache find. Only heard of geocaching recently, and am staggered at the concept! So many caches all hidden from the unsuspecting public. This first cache was a surprise in itself, located in the grounds of my very own workplace!" Regrettably this cache is no longer, but I am still amazed some 2,500 caches later about the adventure of caching, the places one would not has seen otherwise, and the friendship of fellow cachers....

18-May-10
I think the last few logs some it up perfectly Cheers to every cacher for making this a great family fun game

18-May-10
Well Happy Anniversary, just school as normal....

18-May-10
How many other activities do you know that can involve the whole family as a team to our own abilities. That is flexible. That get you out of the house. Alot of fun as we set our own targets, achieve our own aims, can be done in isolation or can involve 100's. We have learnt a lot too - about ourselves and found places and event in our backyard that we didn't know existed - so many of us have the word in our logs "if it wasn't for caching.....". We like meeting others in the wild and helping others with their hunt.

What a great time we have had - today our stats say 900!!! 900!!!!

About us: Large Trads not nano Multis and puzzles helpppppp !
We had closed our 10km circle (until today).

Our thanks to all.

18-May-10
This game has given us so much enjoyment over the past 6.5 years that it has become the main reason/purpose for all of our travels. There are so many facits in this game that it is difficult to explain what the game is really all about.
Is it the excitement of finding a container using unbelievably complex equipment that a complete stranger has placed?
Is it the thrill of finding a way through a myriad of tracks and bush to get to a remote location that hardly anyone else knows about?
Is it opening a container and seeing what "treasure" is in there that you might want to swap?
Is it the fascination of pouring over maps and working out where you want to go and which caches you want to do?
Is it finding a fantastic location with scenery that you would not have normally known about?
Is it the fun and friendship that you quickly generate from like minded people?
Is it the anticipation of reading the logs of a new tricky cache that you have just put out?
Is it working on a cache container and imagining what cachers will think of it when they finally find it?
Is it introducing new cachers to the game and watching them grow and develope?
or could it be all of the above and much, much more?

Thanks to all who have made this a great game and hope to see you in the field someday.

ps: There were 2 goals for us to achieve prior to the 10 year anniversary and we were lucky to have achieved both of them on the same day - 1 May 2010. They were to "find" Lane Cove and meet Paul Edwards - the person who placed the first cache.

18-May-10
Was unable to find any caches on the day as I was home sick. But I did hide a cache the night before, post a congratulations in the thread and read some of the early emails surrounding geocaching in general. It's fascinating reading how the name came into being.

Thank you Geocaching Australia for giving us an additional outlet (inlet too?) for this great pastime.

18-May-10
A big thank you to caughtatwork for everything you do. I have only been caching for just over 1 month and have enjoyed every minute. Work really does get in the way, I think I may have a small addiction!
After placing my first 2 caches for this event I can see that I will be getting a lot more out there soon. I have a multi ready to be placed now.
It has been a great 10th birthday celebration so thank you all again.

18-May-10
Thanks caughtatwork for your inspirational organisation skills! Placed three caches over the last few weeks, and many more to come. It certainly doesn't hurt that one of the Briggbottoms celebrates a birthday on this day and has the same age as geocaching in Australia!

Started caching this year - well, technically late last December - and have really enjoyed the shared experience with family members. Both hunting and hiding caches have brought smiles to faces, and we managed to introduce several others to caching too!

Just need to figure a way to automate GPX into my GPS, it takes .ov2 format (Tomtom) and the trivial conversion doesn't have all the info I'd like so it takes a bit of manual massage at the moment.

Next up, night caching!

18-May-10
I didn't find any anniversary caches today, but still had a good time anyway. For me, one of the essences of geocaching is doing it with other like-minded people-- I've tried it solo and it just doesn't seem to have the same appeal. Even DNFs are just better with friends.

I've been geocaching for about a year and a half now. I discovered it one lazy Sunday afternoon reading the paper. In it was a two-page feature about geocaching, with an interview with a local cacher. It sounded interesting and fun, and my partner had a GPS... so off we went to try this out. Our very first hunt was a DNF, but that was all right. It certainly didn't stop us going on to search and find more caches and have a grand time doing so! Our favourite caches are those that take us out into the wild-- and the second important essence of geocaching-- discovering places you never knew existed.

Numbers aren't nearly as important to me as the experiences. Those experiences have contributed to enriching the fabric of my life and even the bad ones are just as memorable and educational as the good ones.

Thanks GCA for creating a wonderful website and organising this anniversary event. I'm pleased to have put out two caches for the occasion and very much look forward to people finding them!

18-May-10
We started caching about 18 months ago and after going to our first cache near home with the kids, we were hooked. We have since found caches all over southern NSW and the ACT and never plan a trip anywhere without considering what caches we can get along the way.

We have met some great people, got hooked on Pathtags and well and truly stretched out minds solving puzzles (especially here in the ACT) and love the way caching can give us a fun activity that the entire Family can do, or just one of us.

18-May-10
What an awesome day. Got up early to plan my trip. Collected a FTF and got 10 caches in total.
1 of the caches had the most amazing views!
Loved spending the day out with my geodog finding all of the wonderful caches. It was equally as exciting having people find the 7 caches I had placed that were released today.

18-May-10
What a fantastic day - a cache hide, a virtual event, a real event, and the "Geocachers" team came equal first in the quiz night at the pub we had our event at!

18-May-10
Have just returned from attending a 10th Anniversary Event Cache in Townsville. What a great way to celebrate - with a group of like minded people. The last three years of caching has given us so much pleasure - thanks to everyone for putting out their caches and to all those who have found mine.

18-May-10
We started caching in 2005(Mr Morris often regrets buying the GPSr for Lady Morris birthday)and we love how it has made us get outdoors, tested our resilience, taught us new skills and taken us to some wonderful places. Most of all we love the people we have met. Thanks to all those who contribute to this interesting and some would say eccentric hobby.

18-May-10
We have been caching for about two years. It has given us a new reason to spend time in the great outdoors and more time to spend with each other. We have visited places we would never have otherwise gone to at home, interstate and overseas. We have learnt a lot of history about our home area. We have met many interesting people and had heaps of fun. We love that we can take kids out caching and see the joy they get from finding the treasure. We love that we can take our elderly mum out caching and see the enjoyment she gets from the find. Thanks to everyone who has put out the caches and thanks GCA.

18-May-10
Just started geocaching a few months ago. But having a lot of fun.

18-May-10
Since we were consumed by this pursuit almost 3 years ago, it has lived up to the expectation of surprises it offers. Whether the excitement of that first find with the goodies inside, a FTF, so many geocaches in other states (and countries) to find, all manner of different terrain/difficulty/puzzle/camo whatevers, or the joy of sharing treasure hunting with the children; it has been a true adventure at every turn. Big Grin
Not least has been meeting the multitude of like minded people who share a joy of the outdoors and understand what geocaching is all about ! It has been amazing hearing about the exploits, talking, meeting or even just receiving an email from a fellow geocacher !
But a most special thank you to all the hiders, and those wonderful people involved in administrating and maintaining the website that makes our pastime so accessible.

I hope im not to late as i have just got home for work.

The best thing i have found about Geocaching is that you Get to see lot's of places that you would not normaly see & i have meet lots of great people.

18-May-10
We set a new mile stone today. We did 6 physical caches, with 2 FTF's, for the day all of them in fantastic locations. And now a Virtual to finish the day.
4 of them being GCA 10 year caches, 1 GCA moveable and 1 GC.

18-May-10
Thanks for going to the effort for this one.
great Idea ....

18-May-10
I'm in Seymour, Victoria for work this week, and unfortunately have missed FTF hunting for new GCA caches around home in Canberra.

The best thing I have found about Geocaching in the past 2.25 years have been the reason to get out and explore when I've been travelling, and in new places I have lived (numerous since I began).
I've seen many things I wouldn't otherwise have, and met many people I otherwise wouldn't have. Thanks for the great site, and looking forward to getting home to search for all the new anniversary caches.

18-May-10
There are just so many different things I enjoy about geocaching. Since being introduced to this activity at the beginning of 2007 I have been taken to wonderful places, solved interesting puzzles, laughed or been surprised at audacious and cunning hides, challenged myself with the occasional thing that's outside my comfort zone, learned something new about an area or topic, done the odd crazy thing (some of my friends think it's ALL odd and crazy, but they don't know what they're missing out on!), found other people's favourite hidden corners, met some great people, had some shared adventures with people I'd never have met but for caching, and experienced a great sense of community through events (including the Mega event, but others too) and the forums.

My thanks go to all those who share and contribute to this vaguely anarchic but wonderful pastime: the cache hiders, the finders, the great log writers, the forum contributors (especially those who are masters of witty or interesting repartee), and all the site admin folk who put in a lot of time behind the scenes to make the gca site such a great site to visit. I enjoy the forums and I keep discovering more of the cool features that the site has to offer: there are some amazing faeries doing wonderful work.

And thank goodness for a don't-have-to-go-anywhere event cache, because the one sad thing about today's celebration is that I haven't had a chance to get any other kind of smiley.

18-May-10
Hey, thanks for a great way to bring us Aussie cachers together!

I am a 1 year'ish newbie - however I have been fortunate to cache around the country and in South Africa and Malaysia!

What I have enjoyed - and still enjoy - spending the week solving a puzzle and taking the kids out on the weekend to find it! Awesome!

Happy Birthday everyone!

18-May-10
A great opportunity to say what geocaching means to us. It takes us out of the house, into places we might not have visited otherwise. It gives us insights into history and some geography (love good Earthcaches). It introduces us to some friendly folks with a common interest. Thank you, geocaching for a wonderful new experiences. Happy Tenth Anniversary.

18-May-10
Started geocaching 1y 5d ago today Smile. Were introduced by friends and decided it was a fantastic way to discover places we would never otherwise go. Along the way, found some devious minds, some very artistic caches and met a lot of wonderful people. Now I can't imagine what we did before geocaching?! Thank you to everyone who makes this activity great.

10 years of geocaching! WOW.
I have only been doing this for one of those years and have thoroughly enjoyed every cache. A great way to celebrate for those who can't get to the events.
Cheers and happy caching.

18-May-10
Thanks for providing an opportunity to share in the celebrations of 10 years of caching. Although we have not participated for quite as long we have enjoyed the adventures and the journeys. caching has shown us many great places and allowed us to meet amazing people in the most unusual situations.

Cheers Terrortorian

18-May-10
What a wonderful event to have 10 years of adventures for everyone to enjoy. We have only been caching for just over a year but have had so much fun in that time and look forward to lots more in the future. Good healthy fun. Thanks for all your effort keeping this going.

18-May-10
Despite work as usual, I had a great day celebrating the 10th anniversary!

1 FTF before work, 1 FTF just after work commenced, and 2 more finds after work, all on 10th Anniversary GCA caches.

Heading off to Adelaide tomorrow where hopefully we'll find even more anniversary caches.

Added my bit to the official forum topic, therefore logging my find here.

Thanks GCA, we appreciate all that you do.

18-May-10
Happy Anniversary everyone! We started geocaching almost 4 years ago, and during that time, we have visited many places and done many things we would never have done if we weren't looking for a cache (like climbing Mt Beerwah or abseiling at Kangaroo Point Cliffs). The best part of all though, has been the many wonderful people we have had the pleasure of meeting as a result of this brilliant activity.

Thank you to those who have brought so much enjoyment to so many people.

18-May-10
I got into geocaching two and a half years ago when I got a GPS for work, then bought a book about GPS (The dummy's guide to GPS or something similar). The last chapter was about geocaching but I didn't look at it for about 6 months then was surprised it was about a game! Found the cache nearest to home and haven't looked back. It's now much more than a game for me - more like a lifestyle Smile

I love the fun of finding and hiding caches, the exhilaration (and sometimes frustration) of learning to use GPS computers and websites for geocaching stuff, the interesting places it takes me, a reason to avoid mowing the lawn, the nice people I've met through geocaching, and the fun events I've been to, the numbers (I know, I know...it's not about them), the way I can meld geocaching with my other outdoor hobbies and with travel. There's more but I won't go on.....

Happy 10th Birthday Geocaching

18-May-10
Had a great day chasing a few 10th Anniversary caches ended up getting 2 FTF's and 1 Silver. Also picked up 5 Trig Points, 3 GC caches and 1 other GCA cache so over all had awesome day Geocaching. This should be a yearly event.

18-May-10
Have only been caching for about 4 months now. Found out about it a few years back when my brother attended the 100year re-enachment of the first ever scout camp that was held on Brownsea Island. He only went to Herrison Island in Perth though. I got Mum excited about it and then Dad became hooked too. So now we are a Geocaching family and love it. Our next holiday to the Goldcoast will be looking out for...... you guessed it caches! Thanks for this wonderful game.

18-May-10
CONGRATULATIONS and thanks to all involved.

When we started geocaching almost 3 years ago we thought the novelty would wear off - well it hasn't yet. In fact we are not sure anymore whether we plan our holidays around caching or caching around our holidays!

18-May-10
A Late starter (end 2008)but enjoying this activity immensly...

Happy 10th Aniversary Geocaching Australia

Have found many new friends & locations I would never have ventured to otherwise...

All those long trips that where punctuated by fuel stops are now more frequently interrupted "what! not another cache?" we now hear from the passengers side...Smileas I pull into a clearing besidce the road...

"Oh Yeah - be right back" as I bolt out the door...

It's a numbers thing + the challenge - You against the Hider ...

Looking forward to many more years & many more caches...

Thanks to all those involved who make this activity so enjoyable....

18-May-10
For us we only have been geocaching for just over two years, and have seen many an interesting places taht if it wasn't for geocaching. Some good ones like natural places such as Huka Falls in NZ through historical sites like Cable Park at Southport.

Anyhow cheers for another 10 years!

PS Thanks for SVN07 for her 10th anniversary cache and the FTF!

18-May-10
I've heard of virtual caches and events, but never a virtual event... ...this is cool! Took part by first-to-finding Adam's Ale (GA2121), and just finding Waverley Sights (GCQ95D) and this event. Great to be part of a game that is nearly as old as I am. TFTC.

Attended by PR&F on 18/5/10 @ 6.30pm.
Happy Anniversary to Geocaching in Australia!
Here's to more caches being hidden and found for many more years!
Thanks for the good times so far!

Just returned from a "walk" out with my eldest Marine, who was rewarded with a GCA 10th Anniversary Cache FTF! We ended up walking between 5 and 6 k's and loved every minute of it. He went places he'd never been, we were impressed with a cunning hide, and we got to spend some great time together.

Isn't it about time? Smile

Thanks everyone for the great times!

18-May-10
I love geocaching. caughtatwork is my daddy and I love to go out treasure hunting with him and my sister Jess and mummy.

18-May-10
Best I attend I suppose Smile

I started geocaching on 13-May-2004, so I was a little under 4 years late to the start of the activity. Now 6 years on, I feel like it has been a part of my life for the whole 10 years of its existence.

I heard about geoaching from Facitman (spawn of Rhinogeo) one day at lunch and being self employed at that time decided it would be a good way to get out of the house.

My first three finds were technical (but unlogged) DNF's. I was using an old Garmin GPS 12 (which is still sitting on my desk). I had no idea how to use it and assumed that DD MM.MMM was the same as DD MM SS and as such we ended up nowhere near where the caches were located. We also didn't know about the arrow, so we navigated by watching the numbers go up and down. Now that was finding them the hard way and more often than not we ended up going the wrong direction.

It took a call to Uncle Jiffy (my geocaching spawn) to rectify the error and we soon had our first 3 caches in hand. What an excitement it was to find a geocache where other people had been without them noticing it.

That's been the majority of the fascination for me for the last 6 years. Knowing that there are hidden geocaches, only metres or less from thousands of people every day and only a few select individuals know that they are there.

I enjoy the journey to the caches, especially in the country, where in the old days I would only ever follow the arrow. That would lead us down byways and lanes and dirt tracks where you would always see something interesting in the bush.

I also enjoy the thrill of the hunt and will find most caches, regardless of the journey. It's knowing (or hoping) that it's there and then the final aha! moment when the cache is revealed.

In May 2006 I joined the GCA development team and have been an ardent supporter of the GCA ethos and website ever since. My background in programming (COBOL) translated nicely into the language of the website (PHP) and as I was self employed doing website design and construction it was a perfect opportunity for me to give some other than cache back to the community. Since that date I hope what I have contributed to the site has helped more and more people come to enjoy the free and open global geocaching site that is GCA today.

I would also like to than embi and Pyrenees id (the original owners of the forums) as well as ideology who took GCA to new heights and funded us for so many years and of course the two previous developers Riblit and swampgecko.

Thanks also to everyone who came together to hide a geocache to celebrate the 10th anniversary of geocaching in Australia. It was a humbling experience to notice the excitement and dedication of the game players. I also hoped that excitement was out there, but now I have the experience first hand.

Together with CraigRat I hope we can continue the game, in our own, uniquely Australian way, free of the influences of the world for many years to come.

Happy 10 year anniversary Australian Geocaching!
Placed a 10 year event cache yesterday and have posted in the forum tonight.
Great to see so much support and new caches for the occasion!

18-May-10
This explains the massive amounts of GCA caches published and in the update mail Smile Don't think anyone around here takes much notice of the GCA caches which is a shame, might have to inform them Smile

Great effort from all involved to keep this site up and running, congratulations, you certainly deserve it.

18-May-10
Have only been in Australia since August 2009 but have met a lot of great people and done some fantastic caches in that time. Happy anniversary to all the cachers out there and special thanks to all those who have hidden them for us to find!

18-May-10
Happy anniversary everybody.I've placed two anniversary caches and I'm attending an event tonight. Thanks to all those who've hidden all the caches I've found over the years and thanks to those who have found mine.Cheers.

18-May-10
I joined in the celebrations at midnight, downloaded all the new caches and went out caching for the day. 10 years? Well for me it's only been a bit over a year since I started. My first cache was an earth cache in Feb 09 and I wasn't quite sure what I was doing! We looked around and did all the required question/answer things and that was our very first log. Since then, I've been to some brilliant spots that I would never have known about so thanks to all who've hidden caches for me to find. Some of todays were among the greats too!

I found geocaching years ago, but it wasn't until two years ago that I got my hands on an iPhone, and started to use the GPS in it. Then, came along the Geocaching app, and I'm hooked!

Most of my finds are at night, and I've found some great places in my own city that I hadn't ever seen - it helps me find great locations and gives me an excuse to get off the couch. Smile

Happy anniversary, Geocaching!

18-May-10
Happy 10th Anniversary GCA. I've been caching for 2 and a half years now and am still loving it!

18-May-10
I visited the forum, but not GZ, so now to log the cache.

Happy Birthday Geocaching.

18-May-10
Happy anniversary. We have only been doing this for a few years.
we love geocaching and cant believe all of the places we have been to because of it. It is fantastic to get the kids outdoors and active and it is quality time together as a family. TFTE

18-May-10
Many thanks to Geocaching Australia for the enjoyable hobby. I've been caching for a little over 12 months and love it.
Many thanks to all those cachers who's caches I've found and to those who I have yet to find. Since my introduction, I am now an avid ambassador to all those who will listen and want to give it a go.
I wish I had been introduced 10 years ago, but I am sure I will be around for the 20th.
Many Thanks Geocaching Australia for organising the Anniversary celebrations today, I'm off after work to try and get a FTF on an Anniversary Cache.

18-May-10
Happy 10th Anniversary to Geocaching Australia...
We have been out to do some caching and managed a couple of FTF on the 10th Anniversary placed caches... Saw some wildlife (a kangaroo) some very rough roads and several caches....
Thanks Geocaching Australia for the Anniversary Virtual Event...

18-May-10
Happy birthday Geocaching Australia

18-May-10
Just back from visiting the forums...

Been geocaching for nearly 4 years. We have enjoyed all those caches that show us something interesting we would otherwise never have discovered. Also we have enjoyed the way that, as a whole the geocaching community is happy for different people to geocache in whatever way makes them happy.

18-May-10
Only been really involved with geocaching for the last year and a half. Had so much fun exploring this great country. Thanks gca for taking me to some weird and wonderful places. Happy 10th Birthday and hope many more!

18-May-10
Almost 2 years of caching and it's been tons of fun. Happy birthday GCA.

18-May-10
Only 10 years?! Seems like so much longer. It's amazing how technology has progressed to give us this engrossing sport. Many thanks to all the current and former website developers and original forum owners caughtatwork, CraigRat, ideology, Riblit, Swampgecko, embi and Pyrenees Kid that have made this arm of caching possible.

Many many happy returns to us all!!

18-May-10
Congratulations on the anniversary of 10 years of Geocaching in Australia, and thanks to the hard working team of Geocaching Australia, may the future be as bright.

18-May-10
Have only been doing caching for a few years, but what a great activity.

Thanks to everyone that has made caching what is is today

Am looking forward to the 20th anniversary

18-May-10
It's less than 2 years since I was introduced to geocaching and I go hunting whenever I can. I've had so much fun visiting places I probably would never have gone if not to find a cache. Not much time for caching today due to work committments but I did manage to find one 10th Anniversary cache and score a FTF to boot!

Thanks to all at GCA for the service you provide and for organising this celebration.

18-May-10
Congratulations to Geocaching Australia for celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Geocaching in Australia.
I have been an active but unconventional Geocacher for 3 years and found over 930 geocaches and hidden 34 geocaches without a GPS, but with consultation to Google Earth.
Thank you Geocachers everywhere for being part of the organisation providing the challenges, always enjoyable once completed.
The greatest thrill was to have a geocache named in my honour GC1MAX2 Bob’s Place.
Proud of the Past Confident of the Future.
Remember the weather is usually Fine Elsewhere.

Happy Anniversary to Australian geocaching! I've only been geocaching for three and a half of the those ten years, but it's been great fun - here's to the next 10 years.

Thanks caughtatwork for organising the virtual mega event!

Well it was 9 years and 9 months ago I started my first cache hide.
Of course, I didn't know it was a Geocache then, I just knew I had some co-ordinates I wanted to share.
It took nearly 6 years to "find" geocaching.

Another 4 years on and thanks go to everyone involved.
The hiders of the caches I have found.
The finders of the caches I have hidden.
The organisers of the Caching Games.
The contributors to the forums.
And of course the administrators of the web sites.

And a special thanks to GCA who let me complete that very special hide, less than 160m (and maybe 15 minutes climb) from a GC cache.

My 'attendance' has been marked by an early morning dash for an FTF... luckily one left over from all the late night raiders in the ACT!!

Great to be part of the event and to contribute some more caches for others to seek out.

Great to see the 10 years in Australia racked up, and I'm sure that there will be plenty more developments, memories, and fun in the next 10 years!

Thank you everyone for making the last few years so much fun. Mum and I are so glad we discovered geocaching and have made so many great friends.

18-May-10
Congrats GCA.
You are now officially my caching site of choice.
May the site, support and caches continue to grow.

18-May-10
I cant wait to have some free time so I can try finding some of the new GCA caches. Thanks to all for placing so many new ones out there.

18-May-10
I have loved caching and GCA was the site that introduced me to it. The people, the places, the CACHES! All fantastic.
I'm so looking forward to the next 10 years.

It is lovely to be able to attend this event with cachers from around Australia.

Thank you to everyone who has helped evolve GCA from the static page listing cachers' websites that it was when I first started caching to the dynamic place it is now.

And thank you to all those caches who have hidden caches for me to find or found my caches and rewarded me with a lovely logs about your experience.

I've met so many friends through caching, some of whom I've never even 'met' (IRL) yet but who have helped me soooo much in the past few difficult months. You know who you are - and I love you for it.

Love it! What a great way to get the whole country together to celebrate 10 years of fun, adventure and friendship. Just think everyone, what our lives would be like now if we hadn't started geocaching. I mean, how many of us have said that they have no idea what they passed their time with before geocaching, or how disappointing it would have been to have missed out on making such great friendships. Three cheers for all!

Happy Anniversary, everyone.
I managed a FTF on an anniversary cache that was luckily placed less than a km from home. I had a beautiful walk in the autumn sunshine this morning to find it, an achievement for me as I'm ill at the moment, and very unhappy and lonely. A walk in the sunshine did wonders for my mood, got me out of the house, and got me a smiley. The only way I could have topped that is if I'd bumped into another cacher while finding it. I'll have to be content with the forums for company today Smile

Well stayed up last night to see what was going to come up in my area and there were some within the 10km radius that I set however they belong to a cacher that I know very well and I decided that I would allow some others to get his FTF's. If there are any left after work today I will go looking for those.

Enjoy the 10 Birthday celebrations everyone

Hi all, Happy 10th Anniversary to Geocaching in Australia!!!!!
I've had a fun morning heading off about 7.45am whilst GMelb very kindly got MMelb ready for school as he didnt want to do any caches in his work clothes anyway lol. Tried to find Muggles Muggles Everywhere but suddenly was VERY desparate to go to the LOO!! So I came home and then went back and had a better search but unable to locate that one as yet!! Sad Went to do Hidden away for an easy 2TF and then went to do Still a Freeway as I wanted to try to get at least 1 FTF today!! lol Luckily I was successful with that one and so came home to log them and catch up on all the 10 GCA anniversary logs

We were introduced to geocaching by PPrass about 5 years ago when we bumped into them on holidays in the Grampians. PPrass is GMelb's brother's wife's uncle!! MMelb in particular loved the hunting for treasure (he was 7 at the time) Anyway at the time GPSr's were way too expensive and so the only caching G&M did after that first time was when they saw PPrass at Cape Patterson on the annual January holiday. After January 2009 we had a look at GPSr's again and they were way more reasonably priced so we finally decided to buy one - in September 2009 and as they say the rest is history lol - we are pretty hooked and have really enjoyed bumping into teams out caching and finding those tricky hides and love decoding the even trickier puzzles!! (Wellllll ....... when we can work them out lol) Looking forward to a fun weekend this weekend - caching for my (JMelb) birthday!!
Cheers
GJMMelb

Well i can't say that I have achieved 10 years myself but the last 10 months have been truely enjoyable. I've visited places within 20km of home that I would never have even contemplated and learnt many pieces of information along the way and met many amazing people too!! For the record I logged the physical cache on the morning of the WWFM event last Sat.
Thanks again.

Ahh sitting at work and the reminder went off to log my visit to the 10 Years of geocaching Australia.

Thanks for all of the ahrd work in keeping this site going and offering alternative ways to cache

Happy Anniversary everyone. We have been activly caching for quite a while now and are trying to log up a bit of a milestone on the GCA caches. It has been a wonderful experience and we are still enjoying the chase. Almost to 700 finds overall and climbing.

Now I have a few more to get on the way home!
Thanks For The Event.
Keep on cachin'

Congratulations to us in Australia for 10 years of secrets. I have enjoyed the friendship of the Australian site and meeting other like-minded Oz geocachers.

No Anniversary caches published near me but that didn't stop me putting out one of my own.

Would have loved to have spent the day out and about but there doesn't seem all that many out my way... that's what you come to expect when you live in the middle of nowhere though! Thanks C@W for creating this event so that everyone can be in on the action for the 10 years!

18-May-10
WHooo, so many caches, so little time...
Congrats for all those who posted a cache, and congrats to all you fellow cachers that make this sport what it is!

Happy Anniversary everyone.

I got my two caches finished late last night then found 3 FTFS just after midnight and now just enjoying all the activity happening here and in the forum.

lets enjoy the next ten as much.

Sitting at my desk with rain coming down and the car in the shop for a rego check. So probably won't be doing any caching today but anxiously waiting for someone to find my 2 anniversary caches.

Congratulations of GCA and website maintainers. I am very impressed with the functionality of the GCA website.

I started caching in 2nd January 2009. Like many others, the addiction is growing. Especially when my partner asks me why I am racing out in the middle of the night to find a moveable cache in a park. Even worse when I ring home asking for her to give me more clues! Had teh opportunity of caching in the USA which showed the a great aspect of geocaching; visiting those out of the way spots you would normally never encounter.

BTW the coords are for my office as I write this log.

Just finishing reading the GCA daily e-mail. Found there was a new GCA Cache <100m from work so off I went and found Round and Round (GA2138).

Congratulations for the 10th Anniversary of Geocaching in Australia. I have been enjoying caching since March 2008. It has taken me to a lot of places I would not normally have gone to.

Thanks to all the cachers that have placed a cache to remember today.

Congratulations on 10 years!
It is fantastic seeing how many new caches are around now compared to when we first started many, many years ago.

18-May-10
Happy birthday Geocaching Australia Smile

18-May-10
Attended this morning but will check back in through out the day and see who else turn up

18-May-10
A couple of new ones near me. Not as many as I thought there might be. I wonder if any will appear during the day?

Thanks for organizing it all. Look forward to the 20 year anniversary.

Happy Anniversary! I am just about to log an ftf that we stopped in on the way to work, not as committed as those who got up at midnight and went out! Loving Caching, hope it continues for many more years to come!

This is my 95th GCA "Find" over the past 2 and a bit years.

I was hoping to be out there today looking for some of the 250+ caches but there are some work comittments that have to come first. I'll have to settle for second and third to finds. Smile
I've had a ball so far going to places I never knew existed and met some great people on the way.

To the administrators, Keep up the good work, you're doing a fantastic job of keeping us together.

My 100th GCA cache! I've had a blast geocaching over the last few years - and I appreciate the GCA site very much.

I resisted for a few years the call of some fellow orienteers to try geocaching. Having a Christmas with no family or friends for once I caved in last December and we found our 1st cache (with dog tag even!) during our Xmas Day pre-breakfast run.

Since then our geocaching has been a sidebar to our sporting activities. Or so I thought until I discovered my statistics page a few weeks ago. Not to mention getting involved in the 10th Anniversary hides.

The experience has been made all the better by the positive attitude and help by the GCA web site gurus especially and the forum contributors generally. Thanks

Kenny

My 50th GC find.

Ahh, the irony of it all - I am stuck up at the Gold Coast and there was 13 new caches published in the ACT!!!!

Arghhh..... Oh well, at least I was able to sleep Smile

And besides, I was able to log a bunch of new caches yesterday since I haven't cached up here in QLD before.

A big thankyou to all the cache hiders and finders who make this sport of Geocaching such a fun experience. It's fantastic to meet you all in the 'wild' or at events.

I'm looking forward to being a part of the next 10 years!!!

Happy Anniversary.
