Description

Burns Reserve and Dog Beach is the location to find another ammo can by caughtatwork

The Altona Coastal Park lies at the mouth of Kororoit Creek. Most of the beach is fronted by 500 m wide sand flats, while the backing shoreline is composed of marsh and patches of sand. Only toward the southern end of the park, in the P.A. Burns Reserve, does a continuous beach form, still fronted by 300 to 400 m wide flats. The reserve terminates at an open, 30 m wide drainage easement, on the other side of which is Cresser Park. The park contains a large car park, boat ramp, yacht club and a small jetty. The narrow beach alternates with seawalls, while the tidal flats deepen off Cresser Park and are covered by seagrass, with numerous boats moored off the beach.

Dogs are permitted off leash and on the beach at Burns Reserve, so if you're in the mood for a doggy swim, bring your pooch along for some fun in the water before you both head off to find the cache.

The cache is a typical caughtatwork hide being a 2l sistema container hidden inside an ammo can disguised to match the surroundings.

The closest place to park is the carpark in front of the Pines Scout Camp, off Altona Road. It's a pleasant walk although at some times the smell of seaweed is quite strong. You only need to leave the well formed track with about 5-10m to go so this ache is also suitable for children.

Be aware that this area is a natural location for snakes, so please watch where you step and check the cache location for any slitheries before you extract the cache.

I'm getting to know this park very well lately, with a number of geocaching visits over the past couple of months. Great to see a nice big ammo can out here, well hidden in typical c@w style. Found quite quickly today. TNLN. Thanks for another GCA find - I'm loving the momentum GCA is gathering at the moment. Cheers!

Days don't get much better than this, out caching with my GLW, sun shining, walking down a track to find yet another 2 litre cache in an ammo can. Can't figure why some people would pass these caches by just because they are listed on GCA, on well each to thier own I guess, at least the quality of the swaps don't deteriorate too quick.

Many thanks C@W for making this day such great fun.
