Description

Not a pretty rose but still "a" rose.

I have had to change this one a bit as there are heaps of muggles here. Instead take a picture of the rose to confirm you have found it. I'll hide the next cache better, sorry to those who have already been out to find it.

Not a difficult cache but a great place to explore for more

Bring your dogs and have a swim and walk.

I have two Jack Russell's which require CONSTANT exercise so stay tuned for more dog friendly caches!

You'll understand the fuss about "Save Callan Park" once your here!

Enjoy and see you out there

The cut&paste bit: Today I walked the 28Km+ 7Bridges Walk in Sydney for the 4th (or 5th?) time. This time around I was quite prepared with a list of geocache.com geocaches, as well as a list of Geocaching Australia (GCA) caches. Normally when I make caching plans I get distracted by something interesting and find few or none of my planned caches, but today was quite a success. The defined route helped! I finished the walk at 4:24 (official event end time was 4:30!) I planned my phone battery power well, bagged a few Pokemon on the way, and even did more caching afterwards. All up I found 9 GC caches, 3 GCA caches - not counting 8 for the 7 bridges and a ‘Completion’ cache - plus probably a bunch of GCA unloved. Thanks for all the caches everyone!

THIS CACHE: This area seems a bit more 'run-down' than when I last saw it. I'll have to do some reading on what is happening in this area. I note that there was no "ROSE" sign here today, I suspect someone (not me!) thought it might look better in their man cave?? TFTC!

skinnyohearn I found your cache Be for 2 and find the Rose 28/01/19, 12:45 pm. This is my find # 99 and find # 1 today. Wonderful drive around Callan Park. Photo attached. Thanks for the cache! TNSLLN

#GA26 - 15:35; I had just logged two nearby GC caches and noticed this one was nearby so came for a stroll. There is some interesting history in this area. If the walls could only speak! TFTC skinnyohearn Think

Some of the key information has disappeared from this side but a bit of reserch confimed both of the points.

A quick photo while on a lovely drive though Callan Park.
What a great place.

A quick photo while on a lovely drive around Callan Park.

After a drive though the old hospital grounds, I parked and took the needed photo of this 'rose'. I'm guessing by the other photos, that this is right. A great sunny day to be out. Very Happy

I came when this was not a virtual but didn't claim a find then as I didn't have a photo. Now it's a virtual and I have a photo. I realised back when it was first published what the name meant. Good to see this large bit of public space.
NB:There is a Terra cache hidden in the general vicinity!!! Dancing

Stopped by while finding a cache nearby. Even in the dark this is an interesting area and it is a shame that a decent use for the area cannot be found. We looked all over for the "Rose" and could not spot it .. so we settled for the whole building .. Looks great lit up at night (That's HGL in the foreground Smile

16-Jun-11
Out night caching with HGL and headed through to search out this location. I'd heard about Callam Park before but never been here. A very interesting location. The plaque seems to be missing these days, but the building is very much intact.
Thanks for the cache skinnyohearn!
best wishes,
Wal

Rode through here on a morning when my daughter was rowing nearby; found two roses - the building and the overgrown rose beds.

It's a pity to see such gorgeous buildings left to fall apart. There are at least five feral cats living on the rooftops.

02-Jan-11
Have driven past this location many times and have been meaning to complete this virtual. Callen Park is a great location and I hope this is retained as a park for all people, as well as a centre for mental health facilities.

16-Nov-10
No muggles around today! The "rose" actually kept me dry for a while.
Thanks for bringing me to this nice area.

Found with no trouble, it is such a shame that all this is left to go to rack and ruin. It seems that the State Government is doing it on purpose until this can no longer be restored and then they can sell the land to developers with a clear conscience.
Thanks for the cache.

No muggles today! Must be too cold and wet. Glad I got this easy one as the Sydney and Harbour View GCA down the road seems to be gone Sad Im sure there is room to hide a traditional around here somewhere! haha

Located this afternoon on a beautiful sunny day.
Great location, pity it's still not used.
Photo will be uploaded tonight.

I walked all over looking for the right rose bed - then came from the right angle and there it was.
last of 7 finds for today, (2 were GCA)
Took Photo, left nothing

Feel a bit guilty about claiming *FTF* but I guess I can despite the two previous visitors could have beaten me to it if it was a virtual then. Oh well, grabbed it on the way home after an early finish at Ultimo today. Nice easy spot to locate, lots of nice buildings around here. Save Callan Park!

Nope me neither. Hd to wait an eternity for two muggle dogs and their owners to leave. Fancy parking right there when there is so much space to park elsewhere. The name all makes sense on arrival at GZ but I searched high and low and every which way in between but nada. Could you provide a hint? hope it hasn't been muggled. this place is a magic find and is worthy of a cache. Could you check that all is well?

23-Dec-09
This whole area has a interesting collection of old buildings, and history attached. New I was at the right spot as the cache name confirmed it. However after 30 minutes I had to admit defeat. I will be back!

19-Dec-09
I'm heading down tomorrow to check whether it has been muggled or not. I hope not but thanks to those that have been to check it out. Nice part of Sydney hey!
