Description

Event cache for Geocachers attending or visiting AJ2010

Many a cacher is a current or past member of Scouts Australia.

The National Jamboree is on at Cataract Scout Park in January 2010, and so where better to meet up with cachers from around the country!

The event date is for the Jamboree Visitors Day, however due to security, welfare & child protection policies in place for the Jamboree site, visitors will need to have registered before the event. As such, non-Scouting Geocachers may not be able to easily attend the event. This is the primary reason that this cache is not an official GC Event Cache, as technically it's an event in an event.
Advice on whether visitors can register on the day is being sought, as official registration closed on November 30 2009.

Event Location: published coordinates are for JNN 103.7 FM Radio Station (tune in while at the Jamboree to 103.7FM)

Event Time: The event is published for Visitors Day, however there will be a log sheet near the radio station throughout the Jamboree (4th to 14th January) so that those at the Jamboree can call past at their leisure.

An informal official gathering time will set in the next few weeks and posted on the forum below for those that want to catch up face to face with other cachers.

Note that Geocaching Venturers will be off site on Visitors Day.

Logs

Archiving this event as it has been over 90 days since it took place and everyone should have had time to log their attendance.

Sounds like everyone had a great time at the jamboree!

does this need archiving now?

Had awesome time at AJ2010- was great to meet other cachers involved in scouting.

AJ2010 was a great way to meet other cachers.
Saulman1010 you rock.
Had a great time working with you.

AJ2010 test your limits Wink I'd like to say that I made the meet up but unfortunately I never got around to signing the cache log Sad
I was a Leader with the City Tours during the day with our Scouts in Troop 336 - hope to see a similar event cache for AJ2013.
cheers The ELTHAM Mob

I'd like to say I attended, but it was a very busy day for me. Swung by in the morning after picking up my home-alone sons from the queue (they needed someone over 18, so I was possibly the only person at Jamboree with both a dogtag ID and a visitor's ID). Didn't find anyone there at that time. Our Scouts spent the day running a mini casino. I kept an eye on that, and spent time greeting visitors, then took the sons back up the top. At that stage, I completely forgot to check the area for the cache event - d'oh! Luckily for me DKMACCA was a bit more organised. He got to the event, and even found some caches to get. We went out with Dingo on another day. Have you ever seen a dingo jump out of its skin? Our Dingo did, when he found Feral. Thanks for the fun. Even though I didn't get to the event, I met quite a few cachers at Jamboree. Hey, Martin - you're a hero! PS - Thanks Partic, I've edited my log to Attended with your permission.

AJ2010 certainly tested my limits!
Martin from the Geocaching activity here - I have the log from the wall that was getting wet and muggled.

Here’s the story - Attended AJ a day early and usual no idea what I was supposed to be doing or who to report to – get thrown out of my own contingent HQ as “not ready for youâ€- bum around the rest of the day helping anyone and everyone who needed anything until I find out I was rostered to be on the City Tour in Sydney (great, seeing as I’ve only been to Sydney twice in my life and the second time was when I flew over it on a joy flight! My bad (broken) foot now decides to flare up - and they want me to stand on a street corner and help kids find their way? Found out AJ has a Geocaching activity for the Scouts and ask if I cant get reassigned. Turned out they haven’t got anyone to run the activity AND the AJ eTrex’s have been lost by the courier. Seeing as I have my set of eTrex’s in the car I get to work and set a quick 8WP Multi cache with a mystery 9th cache for the Scouts in less than 3 hours – including a separate 2WP Multi Leaders Cache. Ran the event and introduced 2500 Scouts to Geocaching. Thanks to Kent and the team at “Adventurous Activities†for welcoming me in at the last minute and letting me have a free run in setting up and running an activity.

Great to meet all you fellow Cachers AND leaders.
Will post all attendee’s when I can get a moment to myself at home.
and perhaps enter the AJ2010 “Leaders Cache†into an event cache.

Have been at AJ2010 since 30th Dec and finally got around to signing the cache log.

It took three tries to find this - the 1st 2 being prior to the day, and before the log appeared, but finally managed to sign the log on Tuesday when I was directed to Martin in the activities geo-tent.
Also did the leaders cache (on-site but off-website).
Still managed to meet a few cachers on the day too.

Wow, how many people were there, I heard there was 11000 through the gates. Found the log sheet & waved to the camera as asked. Didn't make it to the Geo-Tent, totally forgot after seeing the daughter.

12-Jan-10
Hi, hubby and son are in troop 717, had a look for the log but no luck, they don't have a gps with them either. If someone at the jamboree feels the urge to find hubby (mark) I'd love him to add to the log! thanks

found with Camstal
nice to meet geocachers from all over australia

will add photos soon

Hi to all those I met on the day, and those who were eagerly tracking down the cache early in the Jamboree (much to the initial confusion of JNN FM team I'd not briefed early in the jamboree.)

Hi to all those who were at the Jamboree that I didn't catch!

DCR & Socks, as you were at the Jamboree, that counts as attending the event, so happy for you to change your logs to Attend logs.

Hope to see you all back for AJ2013!

tftc what a gr8 way to spend a day visitng aj2010

09-Jan-10
Teamed up with Firesafe and had lunch with Troop 0404 first before heading down.
I can't say much more, other than we WERE asking for 'Partic' at the radio station, and no-one had heard of him, the sign was then sighted!
The rest is history as they say in the classiques!
I have to get one of those new Garmin though, with the camers in it!
Thanks for organising...

Was down visiting daughter at Jamboree and had read about the cache. Quickly spotted and met SamCarter at GZ. Signed log, visited Martin (AKA Crusty) at the adventures tent and left him a TB that he will log once he gates home. I also dropped off a TB to some cachers at troup 0107 to complete it's mission. All in all a totally awesome day

What a hot day that was and so many people. Great to see the Scouts having a ball. Attended to participate in Future Scouts Day and visit Geokid 1 who is in Troop 0232.

Hows this for a scenario - two seasoned cachers with a GPS saying 2m away - Do you think they could find it - I am not saying that it happened that this pair missed the 1m Geocaching symbol by not turning around but it may have - even with partic standing nearby.

Thanks for this event. Myself and Hurtle met up with a few cachers from Oz and abroad down at the Geocaching tent (great work guys).

Gave out some pathtags and TB's and chatted for a while then headed back to Troop 0404.

Great little event, within a much larger (humongous) event.

After having lunch with troop 422, we headed off to the radio station where we found the log conveniently situated. We must have looked the part (or was it the GPSr dangling from my belt) since Martin (aka saulman1010) came and invited us back to the official geocaching tent for a sit down and a chat. Thanks Martin.

We came back once or twice and met a couple of other cachers including Mark (aka Team Hurtle) and Scott (aka firesafe) who I had corresponded with about picking up the movable cache we dropped off at the event event. Good to meet you guys.

Thanks for organising this Partic. We would have like to say hello, but we were advised you were very busy with the radio station, It sounded great.

09-Jan-10
Multiple laps of the Jamboree today, finally got a chance to drop in and sign around 4pm. Met up with Martin at the Adventurous Activities HQ (sorry don't know your caching name!) as well as a couple of other cachers over the course of the day.
cheers,
Wal

Found on Future Scout Day with our 3 cubs and 4 leaders from Birralee in ACT on the way to catch up with Partic. Had a brilliant time at the camp and will be at the next Jamboree

Thanks for organising this one Partic. Great to catch up with you.

I think this is also our first GCA cache.

09-Jan-10
Found it with Paegle Boy after unexpectingly meeting him at the Geocaching tent. Someone (I think it was SamCarter as I saw the name on the bag) had rushed past me with their GPS as I saw Paegle Boy.

Still loooking for more geocachers...I'm staying in Troop 0116 so don't hesitate to come down nd say hello.

Thanks,
Camstal

PS-Will post photos when I get home!

09-Jan-10
Found this cache and signed the log sheet before making my way down to the Adventurous Activities base to meet a few other cachers, and to drop off Wallyhunt's moveable cache GA1747 "Scouts, Why Knot?"". Thanks for the event.

08-Jan-10
That's the way I see it too firesafe. I think we are to have lunch with our scout first.

I'll put my mobile number in the cache log if I get there first. Anyone feel free to ring me.

08-Jan-10
I would suggest sometime in the afternoon so that we can catch up with family members first.

We would be happy to take your cache back to SA.

We must have been following you today C&C as we found your finds just before you and picked up a couple of your tags. Will need to catch up tomorrow to give you some of ours.

Scott

08-Jan-10
We will be somewhere at AJ2010 after about 12 tomorrow.

Are there any times to meet, or will we just come around any time?

I also have a GCA cache race movable cache, that needs to hitch a ride, either north or south with another cacher.

04-Jan-10
Would have loved to be at AJ2010, but as history has unfolded, that was not to be. I have a son there in troop 0425. My cache will also be there, as it left Melbourne in the possession of SamCarter (troop 327). The cache is GA1747 "Scouts, Why Knot?" Hope lots of you "find" it while at the Jamboree. Wally

03-Jan-10
Was advised when I called in at JNN on Jan3 that I was third to find and that my name would be added to the then yet to be made available logbook.

03-Jan-10
Zoratz will attend and is attending the Jamboree with Troop 634 in the ACT contingent.

03-Jan-10
CachedScout (& part of Cached) will be there in Troop 0106. He will be bringing a Scouting Geocoin. Have asked him to drop it off to Partic so it can get into a Cataract Park cache. It's travelled from Canada. Would probably be a good little article for the Jamboree Paper?

Pity can't see you all there personally.

FOUND Partic and said g'day on my first day hope to catch up with more of you on visitors day., Yes, It was me.... I managed to find Partic on the 2nd and bail him up for a FTF on the log that wasn't set up yet and I was closely followed by Magpyre. Hello to Nighteez
Glad I did see Partic when I did as I spent the rest of the Jamboree working on the Water Activities Site and had a lot of fun. Hello to all the cachers who were there. Sorry I couldn't catch up with you *Socks*.

Cheers
MC KENNA

01-Jan-10
Dkmacca will be staying with troop 0632. Looking forward to this event. Hope to meet some of you and share some great geocaching stories. Any body get new geocaching toys for christmas?

01-Jan-10
Taylorbrats May & Jack will be staying in Troop #108 (B.R.a.T.S - look for the banner), so we'll definately be there. Looking forward to this!

*edit* Just realised an amusing little coincidence! The 'B.R.a.T.S' (Ballarat, Romsey, Tullapark, Strathmore) nickname for our AJ Troop, was actually my co-leaders idea, and she has no idea about our 'TaylorBrats' moniker - but I guess there's no escaping the facts, hey? haha

31-Dec-09
I'm staying with troop 1009 (as a Service Leader), so will no doubt catch up on visitors day if not before.
cheers,
Wal

29-Dec-09
I'll be dropping in. Am there from the 30th Dec at Sub Camp 6 Q Store. Will be on the look out for fellow cachers

25-Dec-09
I will be staying with my AJ troop 436 - from Queanbeyan, Gundaroo, Goulburn and Dapto. Looking forward to catching up with old and new friends. Would love a get together on the first couple of days. Hello Socks. Jai, Hoojar and the other scout leaders.

24-Dec-09
I'll be living on site 0611 - just ask for Socks as it is my Scout name as well as my caching name. It will be great to meet other cachers at the Jamboree.

23-Dec-09
We'll see 1 or more of you over the day on Visitors Day.

Geoff Mel Leah Tara

21-Dec-09
I'll be at the Jamboree as a service leader for the whole time - so definitely will be there Very Happy

09-Dec-09
I am working as day worker 3 days,
My wife and eldest girl are there working the whole time,
Daughter #2 is there as a scout,
so I am certain at least one if us can get to a geo-gathering
(sadly I am not working the day of the Gilwell reunion, so can't make that.)
There are another 3 or 4 caches within 5 or so mins drive of the camp too.

09-Dec-09
will be there as a Visitor for Visitors Day.

08-Dec-09
Will be camped at site 0433. I always try to catch up with Partic at Jamborees and see no exception with this one.

I have never logged a GCA before, so this may be a first!

07-Dec-09
I'm in!

This will be my first Jamboree and I can't wait.

Not sure about when though yet either.

Thanks,
Camstal + 1 other

06-Dec-09
I'll be there ... and, knowing the way these things work, will wander past more than once or twice over the course of the Jamboree.

06-Dec-09
We have registered and have been approved and check in time of 11am - look forward to meeting others and will have a new pathtag or two by then

05-Dec-09
We will be there on the day to visit Geoson/Scout. We hope to see a few other cachers there too.

BTW we registered late and still got accepted, but of course we are visiting a scout, which may or may not make a difference.

05-Dec-09
Looking forward to seeing old and new caching and Scouting faces at the Jamboree!

05-Dec-09
The Jamboree Scout Geocacher Get Together at AJ2010 is now published!

During December, check the forum (easiest thing is to subscribe to the thread in the GCA forum) for potential changes to the cache as we get closer to the event.
