Cache Details
Description
We have been thinking about placing a GCA cache for quite a while so when we read about the Moving Cache Race it seemed like the ideal opportunity to get ourselves off the procrastination couch.
The cache is a 200ml Sistema container (now black) containing an Australian Flag GC, our pathtag and a small certificate for FTF, a pathtag and a certificate for 2TF and 20 or so finders' cards. It does have some nice strong magnets but does not necessarily need to be hidden/attached using these.
The race is from 1/12/2009 to 31/1/2010 so it would be appreciated if finders can move it on quickly far and wide within Australia during this period.
The game description and rules are at http://www.cachinggames.com/mcr
Thanks ZED for getting us off the starting block.

So just what are those green "post" boxes used for anyway??

Much better off-road than an electric bike, but from my recollection when the Army were using a similar item the range is quite limited, you might get TO a cache and then have to carry the durned thing back.

Hard luck AusTrackers. Drifter did so well in the race and to lose it like that is real bad luck.
Better luck on your next movable.

Well.....thanks again to everybody who participated in moving Drifter - we did enjoy following its travels in the race.
And thanks Black Bunny for going back to check on the situation, we'd like to believe that it wasn't Drifter that caused all that trouble.
We don't know exactly what has happened to the cache, but in view of its unexplained absence we have no choice but to archive it.
6th
Drifter was playing at being a postal box hopper for his last move and has indeed departed this area and indeed the movable cache realm.
It was very near the suspicious parcel that was taped to the green postal box. See photo of remnants of the tape.
Drifter you were fun while you lasted.
6th
hmm let's hope Black Bunny can confirm it should be in the car park rather than the post box!
6th
Well if it was on a post box, the last set of coordinates must have been dodgy - I was in a carpark
6th
I found the article in "IN BRIEF" on page 7 of Thursday's paper (4/2/2010):
"Suspicious package
Traders and shoppers were evacuated for more than three hours as the ACT Bomb Squad investigated a suspicious package at Hawker shops. It is believed the package was taped to a mailbox located on the strip. Police were called in at about 11:40am yesterday, establishing a 100m exclusion zone. The package was deemed non-suspicious shortly after 3pm."
5th
This cache may have had a terrible fate. According to non-caching father-in-law there was an article in the Canberra Times around Wed(3/2/2) saying that the police were called for a suspected bomb taped to the post box! Oh dear....I've tried to find article on-line, anyone out there still got a paper copy to confirm?
5th
DNF for me too. Not many hides in that carpark and too busy to make a good search. Are the co-ords right, GZ had me on pavement.
4th
If a Belconnen watcher could move this closer to the parliamentary triangle or Fyshwick tomorrow to pick up Saturday that would be great.
4th
Sydney - that would be lovely - thank you.

Want me to move this on to Sydney?

A big thanks to everyone for moving our cache around the country. We've enjoyed following Drifter's travels and hope that we will meet some of you at the Mega Event in April.

Found at our little gathering but DID NOT TAKE. It is still where BB left it.
31st
To celebrate the last day of the Moveable Cache Race we are organising an impromptu afternoon tea and cache exchange at S35 18.280 E149 07.360. The idea is for all the Moveable Caches that are currently in the ACT to come together for a quick cup of tea and a cache 'swap in swap out'. Meeting time is 3pm, today, 31 January 2010. The above location has easy access and carparking available. So grab a Moveable Cache and cup of tea and come on over.
30th
found after an evening caching around new Parliament House, will move on.

Missed it by thaaaat much chief! again..
29th
Sorry W6R,second time I have trumped you to a movable:(
I don't know how I missed this first time I looked, I nearly tripped over it this time!
29th
I am planning to cruise by and nab this later in the afternoon, should it still be there!
26th
Checked this morning and it's still where I left it, the GPS had me about 4m away - check the hint for more clues!
26th
Had a look for this one this afternoon (between passing cars) but unfortunately we couldn't find the cache. Hopefully someone else has grabbed it.

After a trip to Civic & a spin on the merry-go-round, Drifter ended up visiting some Lizards & Snakes at the Botanic Gardens...come and have a visit too.
nb co-ordinates have been slightly adjusted.
19th
Got caught by wing6rider picking up this one - one thing with moveables it doesn't really matter if someone sees you picking up as it won't be there anymore for the muggles. Had a nice chat about caching, holidays and junior cachers..

Raced out to grab a few moving caches that we hadn't yet been able to get our hands on. Couldn't find much in the way of hiding spots for six caches. Returned home empty handed to find more logs - obviously this was grabbed pretty much after it was hidden, and was long gone before we got there.
18th
Grabbed Big Red Bus
Found a bit squeezy so, will put in a cache with more room.

Worn out after a BIG party. I'll let it rest until tomorrow!

Dropped Big Red Bus
Squeezing the Big Red Bus into this small cache to keep it moving along too.
14th
Found it on the second attempt. This time I pretty much parked underneath it. I didn't notice this nook last time I searched.
TFTC. Will move on soon.
13th
Hmm. I just checked it when I was coming home, and it was still there at about 5:40pm. The coords are correct to within a few meters - perhaps you were on the wrong level?
13th
I'm not having any luck keeping up with or finding this one - couldn't find it in it's present location at the Woden Plaza Carpark.
Guess I will try again as it continues to move.
12th
S35° 20.732' E149° 5.229'
Thanks for the drop so close to home!
It's now parked in Woden
Hint: Look up, but don't go too high

S35° 18.894' E149° 5.854'
We were worried this 'visiting' cache may have gone astray. Once the coordinates were updated, we popped down for a quick find and relocate.
It's playing 'on the buses' now!
Back in play... go seek!
11th
S35° 20.038' E149° 5.635'
The GPS gods were a little out when I moved this one. The corrected co-ords are attached. To find this one, take a seat at the take-away and search near ground level.
9th
Had a good look also this afternoon - coordinates were wanting me to head to the middle of the road/carpark - turned up nothing. No hint to provide guidance either.
Hopefully it's already on its way somewhere else.
9th
A good look around the obvious hiding area did not reveal the cache this morning. Perhaps I didn't try hard enough, or maybe it was already on the move?
8th
Quick location at GZ but muggles were very active on their bikes today making retrieval a bit slow. Heading a little further south so will drop it shortly.

Found on our second attempt, pesky GPS had us across the road, but found in the end (how many 3rd poles from the corner can there be??)
I will move it on as far as I can on an outing tomorrow.

Mark - I think your miss relates to its location a couple of moves ago. I have just checked and this cache and it is still at the listed co-ordinates.

Missed it - was gone before I got there. It was logged before I got home to log this - I was searching at S35° 21.682' E149° 5.510'.

Nothing like a cache in plain view on a major road. No drive by here. How hard is this to retrieve?? Luckily on a Sunday parking is easy. Took the recommendation and popped into Eden Nursery for a coffee and a wander around. Very pleasant indeed. Took the Travel turtle Geocoin.

Finally managed to place "Drifter" after it received some Eastern hospitality over Christmas.
I have placed this just outside a Park near home. If you get thirsty while here there is a nice coffee shop at the garden centre across the road.
Best parking is at S33 46.723 E151 08.001

Unable to relocte your cache for a few days as I am housebound with a lung infection. Will get it back out as soon as practical.

Well, that would be why I didn't find this one! I spent quite a long time looking around in the leaves. I got right under the bridge in the middle and crawled all the way to the end where the cache should have been hidden. I pulled all the leaves to one side, then the other! I have NO idea what anyone walking over it might have thought about all the rustling coming from underneath!
Luckily, when I emerged, there was nobody in sight. But I figured if anyone had seen me and I hadn't been able to find the cache, then they wouldn't either.
20th
Located exactly where the log said it would be. No GPS needed here.
A lovely little park indeed.
Now where would it like to spend Christmas? Hmmm.... let me think about that while I track down some other caches in the area.
Thanks AusTrackers. Have a merry Christmas.

Oh dear... I was a bit too late - already gone this arvo when I dropped by...

As this poor cache has been sitting here for days alone I grabbed it (neat hide and very strong magnets!) to take back east. You'll need someone to bring it back from over there as I won't be back for a few months.

Placed today with the birds playing at my feet, might find out when the pony club behind me is on and see if the girls want to come and watch one day. allow for a 5 metre error on the co-ords, the gps was not playing nice today.

Will move as quick as possible.

12:35pm Saw this go active last night so when I had a look at lunch today I was surprised (and a tad disappointed for AusTrackers) that this had not been picked up yet, after all it is in a race. So knowing it was only 1.5Km away from me I quickly zoomed in on the satelite picture and noted where to go (GPSr is at home and thankfully GZ was a readily identifiable object) and popped over to pick it up. The race is on.
