Description

Here's something a little different, this event is one that everyone can attend, as long as you have an internet connection and are a member of the Geocaching Australia Forums.

The aim of this event is two fold;

To bring like minded people together for a short period of time, with a common “positive” thought in mind.

To try and break the record of “The most users on the GCA forums at one time” which currently stands at 48, and was set while the Geocaching.com site was down due to a fire on the 4 of July 09. Unfortunately this stat. was lost in the change over to the new servers at GCA and it now only shows as 34.

To qualify for an “attended Smiley” for this event you will have to do a couple of things;

Logon onto http://forum.geocaching.com.au/viewforum.php?f=2 on the 10th of August between 8:00pm and 8:15pm AEST

(To get to this forum you will need to be a registered member of the GCA forums, this is a free and simple process, if you are not already registered I would suggest that you complete the process before the start of the event.)

Post at least one comment, which is relevant to the topic that I will start at the above time. (the topic title will incluced the Name of the event)

Note: Anyone who does not complete both of the above tasks may have their smiley revoked.

Note 2: when you log you attendance please add your approx coords to the "add waypoint" box on the log page, this will enable use to get an idea of where everyone is from.

Breaking News: Gibbo003 has donated a NT geocoin to this event, to be in the draw for this coin, all you have to do is log your attendance (as per the conditions above) within 24 hours of the close of the event. As well as this, we will donate a FTF coin to the first person who posts a relevant reply to the topic that is the event (i.e. The first post after my post on the night - post must be relevant to the topic)

More Breaking News: Gardengorilla has kindly offered to donate one of her NEW yet to arrive "Gardengorilla Gone Bush" geocoins to this event, and what a wonderful looking coin it is (see factory photos below) The winner of this coin will be drawn as with the above 2009 NT geocoin. (please note that the winner of this coin may have to wait to take receipt of it, as it is only due to be shipped from the factory on the day of the event.)

Well, thought I was going to miss out. I was at Band practice at Homebush with no wireless so connected the phone to the Laptop and tried to log on. Bingo!.
It took about 12 attempts to get a post going which was a bit frustrating and was concerned I was going to get through in time.

Well done for coming up with such a great idea. Being away at work at the time of the Event, it will be a good change to be able to dable in a bit of caching. Just need to make sure I get back to camp by the nominated time....and remember about the two hour time difference over here in the west. Good luck and happy caching.

Hi everyone Thanks for the great response so far.

to answer a couple of the questions that have been raised.

1. the coords of S00 00.000 E000 00.000 were the default coords on the form for hiding a cache (event)at the time I did not give it any consideration just left it as it was. If it is to cause any real issues let me know either via a PM or through the forums and I will look at changing it.
2. The reason it is listed in QLD was to get it onto the daily email (i was going to move it from State to State to expose it to everyone) thanks to C@W it is now on the email as a note, so I can now take it back to Locationless

Since I was also lurking around the numerous record breaking online presences that night, I will endeavour to attend this one.
Dicksontwo asks why locationless in QLD - I presume because the organizers are located there - but I ask, why is the Googlemaps virtual location off the coast of Africa closest to Ghana? Any special reason for choosing this? Do we have to wear traditional clothing when attending? Any special requirements?

Perhaps floaties or a boat?

Amusing interesting idea, we'll be there if we can - we are in our caravan in Qld presently, lovely warm weather, all our geocaching Victorian friends will surely want to know. Suitably equiped with Next G wireless broadband and a good aerial, of course, so geocaching continues with more remote caches. Which raises the question - if it's locationless how come its in Qld?
