Tobias Furneaux Memorial at the Furneaux Lookout on Flonders Island. Gives a great vista over the island.

Recently while visiting Brandon’s lookout to find a cache and hide some moveables we spotted the dial showing directions to various places. Grabbed a photo as it was the first time I had ever seen one of these.

Lookout and multi-direction marker at Flinders Peak in You Yangs between Geelong and Melbourne. Walked up from the Turntable Carpark to Flinders Peak and enjoyed the view to Mt Macedon in the north, Portsea to the south east, Melbourne to the north east and Geelong to the south.
Was in perfect goldilocks conditions with mild temperature and low mid-week numbers on the trail. Enjoyed the 360 degree view from here and made the traditional GC and TP find as well. A very productive visit to Flinders Peak, learning lots about the amazing ascent here in 1802 by Matthew Flinders and 3 of his crew.

Here’s an image of the direction plate on top of Uluru. I wonder if it’s still there?? As soon as I heard access to the Uluru summit was to be closed I booked a plane to this beast of a sandstone monolith and up I went to its highest point. It’s an interesting part of the world out there. Next visit will be with my geo-van. Thanks for the cache

York Town is the fifth oldest settlement in Australia behind Sydney, Norfolk Island, Risdon Cove and Hobart. It was settled in December 1804 under the leadership of Lt. Col. William Paterson. At its height it was home to 300 people. On the 24th May 1804 Lord Hobart wrote to Governor King of New South Wales instructing him to form a settlement at Port Dalrymple with Lt. Col. William Paterson in command. The colonization of Port Dalrymple was a strategic move to secure British interest in Bass Strait, as well as providing a further colony to accommodate settlers removed from Norfolk Island.

A lookout at East Kempsey which looks across to Riverside Park.

A lookout at the 'centre' of Port Macquarie.
We have visited Port Macquarie many times and have been here before, but it was prior to this plaque being placed here. The lookout overlooks Town Beach and has a good view of the channel.

Came up to the harbour lookout at Coffs Harbour and stumbled up this classic directional information sign that included pointers out to places well over the horizon including Norfolk Island and Sydney. The MajuraHathi party of three enjoyed the views from here, including watching a plane come in over us and land on runway 12 at the airport nearby.

Whites Know Lookout overlooking Kimba, SA and where there is a sculpture of Eyre and his native guide.

International and Australia sign post at Hattah on tha Calder Highway Victoria. A little north of Ouyen.

Yowah is a small village west of Cunnamulla and East of Thargomindah or if you like south of Quilpie in Queensland. Mainly opal mining and tourism are the mainstays of this little township. There are two cache hides here as I was in the area must get them of course. Up the end of Bluff Road there is a cache and a very good lookout with this marker. At the time of my visit it was 34 degrees and it was only 8 oclock in the morning. TFTL GREENEGRASS

This lookout is located at Bald Face Point Reserve in Blakehurst.
We found this when visiting the reserve to try and complete the GC cache "Came down in the last shower", a cache notorious for DNFs and I have added my DNF to the list .
The lookout has views across the Georges River towards the Shire, Botany Bay and the Connells Point/Oatley Areas. The plaque was installed by Rotary and bears the name "Rotary Lookout". We spent some time in the area trying to figure out the multicache and enjoying the walk from the lookout which descends to the river and follows the banks of the river taking in the spectacular views at sunset. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

McMillan's Lookout, Omeo Valley, Vic.
We came up here to get answers for a nearby multi cache and were rewarded with beautiful view of the mountains and a direction marker.

This marker is at Arthur's Seat S38 21.190 E144 57.062
It is off the road from Melbourne to Sorrento. There is a chairlift called The Eagle that is worth a ride to the bottom and back. Amazing views towards the bay.

The Cape Horn Lookout at Loch had a fantastic view. It was a clear day and you could see for miles. Unfortunately we couldn't see the Geocache which was suppposed to be hidden nearby.

This one located in Point Lonsdale not far from the lighthouse. There's great views from here across the rip.

Mt Frankland in south west WA.

Mount Frankland is the southern most Fire Lookout tower in the smoke spotting network. It is located on top of Mount Frankland in the Mount Frankland National Park.

Access is via an established walktrack from the carpark and interpretive area below. The path is mostly hotmix or concrete, but becomes a steep steel staircase at one point, which is the most challenging part of the climb. The total accent should take no more than 30 - 40 minutes, and the decent a bit less.

On a clear day you can get 360 degree veiws for at least 100 kms.

I am lucky enough to be overseas at the moment so I’m posting one I saw on my travels. I thought this was absolutely fantastic, they had tthem at most of the big landmarks in Budapest. Not only did it give directions, it also had description of the views in Braille but also had models of the building for them to be able to feel what the rest of us could see.

Just dissapointed I left my good camera at home so had to use my iphone for this.

An orientation table at a lookout in the town of Taroom, QLD which has views over the town & surrounding countryside. Leichhardt's expedition to Port Essington (NT) passed this location on the way. Gilbert was the only competent bushman in the party. Unfortunately, on 28 June 1845 near the Gulf of Carpentaria, Gilbert was killed by a spear when natives made a night attack on the expedition's camp, because some of their women had been molested by the two Aboriginals with the party. He was buried on the spot, a tree near by was marked, and a fire was lit over the disturbed earth in order to screen the grave. A bronze lookout plaque located at Brady's lookout at Rosevears in northern Tasmania. Looks out over the tamar River towards mountainous peaks to the west. No much a view to be had this morning with the area blanketed in thick fog.. thanks..!!

The set of directions found at Cahill's Lookout, Katoomba. It wasn't until later that I discovered that this area who been wiped out by bush fire and was only recently reopened to the public, which is why everything looked so tidy. It was brutally windy up here on the day and I didn't feel like hanging around here too long just in case I blew away!

Hon. Francis Stewart Boyce Directional Plate

I guess I must have missed this directional plate on my previous visits to this site, just off the GWH. Today I was logging a new geocache and spotted it immediately, not far from the weathered obelisk.

The view is a bit further off but you can still sort of see it from the plate. Guess a few trees and bushes have grown up over the years.

This was a case of 3rd time lucky for me for this cache. I had 'found' two previous direction markers but they had already been logged and I didn't want to log the same ones. While stopping in at Flagstaff Hill a few km west of Linton, Victoria, to do the trigpoint (TP3482) here though, I noticed the directional marker at the top of the lookout tower. Although the marker was badly 'scarred', I took a pickie just in case.

It looks like it hasn't been logged before so here 'tis . The views from the tower were great on such a nice day.

This is an interesting lookout at the top of a ridge overlooking the Tweed Heads area. The marker plate shows the direction of points of interest but without distances.

This lookout faces south and overlooks the river entrance at Nambucca Heads. The Captain Cook Lookout is at the end of the road but does not gave a directional plate. There is also a cache and a trig nearby too!

This lookout marker is located on top of The Nut near Stanley on the North West coast of Tasmania. Although it was a windy day that I visited here the views were still fantastic and the experience was very enjoyable.

WanderingAus wandered by on day 2 of our annual Climatic Refugee trip. Our journey north took us to the former gold rush town of Meekatharra where we checked in to the caravan park for the night.

After setting up the caravan and having a cup of tea I headed out to hunt down GC2TP2V Meeka with a View By Team Willows, and discovered this Directional marker at Meeka Lookout, which wasn't there the last time I explored the area a few years ago.



The lookout gives views over the town and the nearby open cut mine.

The first settlement at Meekatharra occurred in 1894 and in May 1896, after the prospectors Meehan, Porter and Soich discovered gold, miners moved to the new settlement from the other East Murchison fields and mining grew rapidly in scale and sophistication.

Success on the Meekatharra field was short-lived. It was only because a second gold discovery occurred in 1899 that the town survived. In 1901 the Meekatharra State Battery began operation and by Christmas Day 1903 the township had been officially gazetted.

Meekatharra exists now as a major supply centre for the pastoral and mining area in the Murchison region of Western Australia. It is located 764 km north-east of Perth on the Great Northern Highway. It is a centre for sheep and cattle transshipment, initially by rail but now by road trains. It is also a regional home to the Royal Flying Doctor Service and the School of the Air. No viable horticultural industry exists in the area, although extensive but poor sheep and cattle stations exist in the Murchison and Gascoyne Regions.

There are a lot of places named on the table, but the detail is so small it's unreadable in the full table view, so I've added a few enlargements.

This fantastic direction table is located on the summit of Mt Sugarloaf west of Newcastle.

All told there are 3 trig points, a Survey Marker, this locationless and a GC cache on the summit, along with 3 more GC caches on the bush tracks around the summit, and one on the road up to the lookout reserve. Add in the spectacular views and the great bushwalks and you truly have a caching mecca!!!

Located on top of the great diving range at a spot known as the Bunya Mountains, there is a lookout in a really open spot known as JS Fisher lookout. There is also a cache not too far distant to this lookout with a similar name. The views are really fantastic. Gets a bit cold in sultry or wintry weather. The views from here are over the plains of the Darling Downs. The views to the east are obscured by television repeater towers.

WanderingAus wandered by, heading from Ongerup to Katanning with the WanderingMrs and our three oldest grandchildren, after spending a week in Esperance with our son, his wife, and our two youngest grandchildren.

We pulled into Louis' Lookout to check out the view, which looks over the Stirling Ranges. The engraving on brass is not easy to read so I've added a lettered series of pointers in the closeup view.

Found on a caching trip down in Gippsland. Coords and history are all on the plaque. The site is to commemorate the original Moyarra store and cricket ground. There is also a physical cache nearby as well as a trig. TFTC

Visited this site a few times, today I came across this locationless cache and tracked down the photos I took last visit. The directional dial is loctated up on the lookout tower on top of the sandy heath ridge overlooking the Cranbourne Botanic Gardens, Westernport, etc

I was going to log the Gellibrand Hill dial I visited yesterday evening but saw it had already been done.

At Sublime Point above the Illawarra Escarpment near Bulli there's an old hand-etched direction finder with one of the best views in Australia in my opinion. A trig is nearby. What more could you ask?
