Description

On the ground level

Welcome fellow Cachers,

to my FIRST EVER cache.

It is I, Sonic the super bird!

This is the first cache in my series of caches on Maria Island. I recommend checking out Maria Gold which is located at the Painted Cliffs. Bit easier for the cacher who doesn't want to walk up a giant mountain/hill. Ha ha!

To get to my cache you have to travel to Maria Island on a boat trip. When you get there you can either camp, or stay at the Penitentionary. There is amazing wildlife, natural beauties and great tracks to either walk or bike-ride on.

When going to my cache you come to dividing tracks and your GPS Receiver will tell you to take the track to the left. But I recommend that you take the right track and ride down to the geo-cache (It is a great track.)

Over and out,

 SONIC THE SUPER BIRD.

We were on the island for just a couple of hours during our circumnavigation cruise and decided to make this cache our target. Last time we were here we concentrated on the adventure lab, this time we were after this GCA cache. After an easier than expected walk up the hill we made a quick find with the aid of accurate coordinates and the hint, the information about the best way to get here in the description was also helpful. Only one GCA cache find on the island today with stainless steel rat, whitewebbs, Tassie Trekkers and the Hancock Clan. I was fascinated by this area and wish we had more time to poke around here. After signing the log we went back down to the engine house to have our lunch.
Thanks Sonic the super bird

Mr W enjoyed his walk on Maria Island with 4 other geocaching teams. It was a great day out with great company from start to finish. Mr W hasn't been on the island for over 20 years since he went with the scouts. Lots of wombats, wallabies and geese (not a goose - even though he was there!) TFTC

Spent 4 fantastic days exploring the island on a Venturer Scout hiking trip.
Found this one on the last day, we did the hike up Bishop and Clerk first thing in the morning and grabbed some caches on the way through.
We'd walked right past this spot a couple of times without noticing it, the cache was a little bit of a challenge but those are meant to be overcome TFTC

An interesting spot hidden away from the track. Thanks for placing this cache here and showing us it. Interesting brickwork - I'm no tradie but I learnt at school (and by playing lego!) that the kind of bricklaying technique used here is perhaps not so great! Maybe it's a kiln thing? TFTC!
Cheers,
The Hancock Clan

What an impressive spot which we probably would have cycled straight past if it wasn't for the cache here. This is what geocaching is all about!!!
Did draw a bit of blood here when extracting the cache, but it was due entirely to my own clumsiness.
Thanks.

Hello Sonic the super bird thanks for the cache.

A nice easy find. Thanks for bringing me here I do like the old kilns.

This was day three of a five day walk.
After a bit of walking on the south island we came back to do some more caching on the north island.

Travelling around Australia and spending a few months in Tasmania.

We stayed overnight at Triabunna so that we could visit Maria Island today. Mr F hired a bike as his was out of action, but Mrs F had her electric bike! [8)]

Damn forget the hire bike would have been better off on foot. Twisted

Great spot though and so much history! Awesome.

As Parks and Wildlife was offering free trips to Maria Island for the winter months and since we already had a two-year Parks Pass, we decided to head to the island today. It has been 20 years since our previous visit. The trip started well with two whales frolicking in Spring Bay just after we left Triabunna - awesome sight.

After landing on the island, Mrs y'stassie headed south whilst Mr y'stassie went on the Fossil Cliffs Walk. After a pleasant walk, he came to the Engine Building which was quite interesting. Then, after a short walk, accurate coordinates led to a quick find of this cache. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks fro the cache Sonic the super bird.

Found on a school trip. Ironically walked past cache twice on the way to and from Bishop and Clerk. Went back and found cache with not to much trouble. Cache is in good condition.

I mean, I knew I was a good cacher - but this is one surely for the record books. Without visiting the cache, or even the island I've still managed FTF.
It's OK Snuva, STF is still pretty good - you should be proud of yourself.

Hey RapidSupreme!
Look who's the first to find this cache - YOU!
Congratulations on finding it and thanks for it.

We were staying at the Penitentiary, and my father was there reading by the warmth of our fire & my husband was off on his own walk, so I decided to make a bit of a loop and incorporate a stab at this cache. I had the most fantastic walk. It's not often I get to bush walk on my own - without even my dog to accompany me - so I'd forgotten how beautiful and peaceful it can be. (Not that I don't like bush walking with others - this just made a nice change!) I saw several wombats, kangaroos, kookaburra, etc. As I neared GZ I saw some interesting features to capture with my camera, and while doing so almost stumbled (literally) upon another wombat! I had a brilliant walk which will make this a memorable cache find. Coordinates were spot on, and your cache is dry, safe, and well.

Thank you for the cache!

Hello everyone,
hope you enjoy this cache.
It is kid-friendly and is a nice track.
It is quite easy, so most Cachers will be able to find it,
but who will be the first to find it?...
