Description
Heron Island, a beautiful coral cay off the central Queensland coast.
Heron Island, off the Central Queensland coast, was the destination for Mr and Mrs Bundyrumandcokes 20th wedding anniversary. So, of course, we had to organise a cache there.
The wildlife is spectacular, as is the setting. From the cache, you will see stingrays, sharks, and fish galore, all within a few metres. The snorkling is excellent, right off the wall in front of the resort. You will become more used to the constant bird calls, the longer you are there.
If you go in the beginning of the year, chances are, you will see either adult turtles laying eggs, or baby turtles emerging from their nests. We were fortunate, we saw both. Reef walking also features highly in the list of activities you should do.
If you can do it, fly at least one of the transfers by helicopter from Gladstone airport. It gives you a spectacular view of the surrounding reefs in the area.
The cache itself is a virtual. It commemorates an event, not unlike the reason we went to Heron Island.
To claim this cache find, you need to go to the indicated coordinates, and note what event happened at this spot, the 2 major players who were involved, and what time and date it happened. Pm me with these details, and if correct, you get the find.
This cache involves staying at least overnight at the resort. I dont think day trippers are allowed. But, if your staying one night, its better to stay more.
Also of interest is the fact the Tropic of Capricorn passes through the island.
If you attempt this cache, enjoy your stay. We did.

Logs
Was surprised when Bundy informed me it was the oldest unlogged unfound GCA cache in Qld, so thanks Bundy for placing it there and persevering with it.
