Description

This is a locationless cache, that can be logged by anyone within Australia. There is no cache at the posted location.

This cache was prompted by our recent trip to Bathurst. We were looking for a park with free barbecues to use to cook our dinner.

To log this cache:

  1. Find a park with free (gas or electric) barbecues.
  2. Post the coordinates.
  3. Take a picture of the park, showing the barbecues, with GPS in pic.
  4. Describe the facilities at the park, i.e. picnic tables, toilets, kids playground etc.

A caching team can log this cache as many times as they like, provided the barbecues have not been previously logged, and there are at least one log since their previous log. Lets build up a register of free barbecue areas.

This is a great little park in North Lyneham, it's in walking distance from our house. There's evidence that the BBQ's have had recent use, but I must admit we haven't ever used them. The playground has had a recent upgrade and still includes the original spinning playground equipment which must be that last one in the ACT along with a few modern versions. The kids love to get on it an spin until they can't walk straight. There's some lovely trees for shade in summer, a piece of art in the form of a carved tree trunk with native animals and there's even a concrete cricket pitch. It would be a great place for a party BUT there is no toilets! The shops are very close but there isn't a public toilet there either, so you just have to go home when in need.

WanderingAus wandered by accompanied by my son Shane, my granddaughter Sophie (4 yrs old) and my grandson Ryan (2 yrs old). We had found a few caches North of Serpentine Dam, and were heading to an area South of Serpentine Dam so that Shane could do a recce for a rogaine. As we were heading for the Serpentine Dam wall Shane spotted a playground, so he pulled into the picnic area near it so Sophie and Ryan could have a play.

There were heaps of picnic tables in the area, and I figured there had to be some barbecues too, so I grabbed the camera and gpsr and went for a walk. I found these two barbecues within 50 metres of where we'd parked, but as far as I could tell these were the only ones serving the upper picnic area, despite several dozen picnic tables. Interestingly there was also a large empty "Firewood" box from way back when they had lots of open fire barbecues and provided firewood for them. Those barbecues have all been removed, but the "Firewood" box remains.

The photo shows the barbecues, one of the tables, the playground, and part of the dam.

Facilities include two free gas BBQs under cover, several dozen picnic tables, water taps, playground, parking, and rubbish bins.

These free BBQ's are located at Albert Park which is home to football and hockey grounds. It is also a rest area for travelers. It has toilets, and a undercover seating area just off to the right. Even though it is in the city limits, it is common to see people stopped for lunch or even camped here overnight.
On the weekends you can even watch a game of footy.

Nice park on the foreshore at Victor Harbor. Tables and bench seating is available for families with lots of room for children to run around and play with well maintained grass areas, public toilets in good condition, a small playground and the beach through a gap in the trees. This is also a dog friendly park with doggie bags available in a dispenser by the public bins.

Most of the public BBQ's I come across these days are free ones. Councils removed the coin boxes after repeated vandalism and robbery. It is cheaper to provide a free BBQ than have council workers continually doing repairs and maintenance on vandalised ones.

Here'another BBQ but a lot closer to home. It's located in Camp Quality Recreation Reserve off Woodhill Mountain Rd Berry. There are under cover picnic tables, a free BBQ, toilets nearby, wide open spaces next to a creek, a winding cement pathway & beautiful shade trees. It is adjacent to Berry Sporting Complex so plenty of room to have a game of cricket or kick a ball around. There is a skate park next to the tennis courts, all < 100 metres away. The Complex is a dog off leash area. Also there is a GC cache within walking distance - "Quality". I discovered the Salt Caves BBQ area last month but only recently became interested in Locationless caches.

I might get a smilie for this one. I don't have my GPSr in any of the pictures however I have been the one & only caching visitor. I was amazed at the the quality of the facilities at this location, given its remoteness. It is located at The Salt Caves in the Pilliga Scrub 20.6 Ks in from the Newell Highway.

The road in is graded with some minor washaways. It is suitable for 2WDs, as evidenced from my GC log.

The picnic area has one sheltered free BBQ, two sheltered picnic benches & a pit toilet, all new & clean. You will need to bring your own water. The Salt Caves are metres away & can be explored with complete safety. There is a fire tower nearby but you can't climb it. On the way in you may see emus & roos (I did).

The cache nearby is GC1DKJB, The Salt Caves.

(Appears to be a contest in respect of BBQs. Nothing onerous about these conditions).

The area is very swamped with muggles during the summer months....due to the beach being out of the wind and the water has little to no waves....so that the little one can swim/paddle in the water without being knocked over by the waves

WanderingAus wandered by on day nine of a 14 day meander through the Wheatbelt, Great Southern and Southwest regions of Western Australia, accompanied by his WanderingMrs (aka SWMBO).

It was the day of GC1KAXA WA Caching Birthday Bash - Albany 2009 by tangowithcupcake and we had skipped the closest new cache, GC1N49T Thar she blows! by mister_clyde at Frenchmans Bay WA to go further afield first. It paid off, because I was able to claim two First To FindsBig GrinCool.

We then returned to the area of GC1N49T Thar she blows! by mister_clyde and found a group of about 20 gps bearing people knee deep in the water, and a further dozen or so watching from the shore. It seems the cache was a nano hidden somewhere "under a rock on the bricks", and nobody could find it. I later heard mister_clyde claiming a new record - cache published around 6:25 AM, gone before 11:00 AM.

In the end even the owner was unable to find it, so our decision to leave it to the masses was also a good one. To cap it off we found some nice looking BBQs and decided to claim this find, so at least "someone" made a find at Frenchmans Bay.

We found this BBQ in the "city" of Varley when we stopped for a late morning tea. There are also three caches nearby, GCR99D Belvidere by TeamBeanDare is only a short walk from the road in, GCY6PG Over Near Belvidere by TeamBeanDare is about 1.2 Km from the road in, and GCQDN5 Leschenault Trek by TeamBeanDare is about 7 Km from the road in (although imho that one is best accessed by boat. I chose NOT to do that walk, 12 Km for one cache is a bit more than I'm prepared to walk - but if TeamBeanDare or anyone else cares to put another 5 caches along the track I'd probably give them a go).

While there make use of Australia's first solar power barbecue near the cache, located close to the Kingston Butter Factory.
The Kingston Butter Factory was built in 1907 and clad in the current brick facade in 1932. It was then producing 40-50 tons of butter per week from local milk.
Butter production ceased in 1983 and the Logan City Council acquired the building and converted it into a community centre. Thanks for organised the hunt. Smile

This is the Lions Park in Romsey, Just off the Main Rd. There are 2 free BBQ's in the rotunda, it might just be worth bringing cleaning cloth or something as kids hang around sometimes and we all know what teenagers are like.

There is an adjacent Skate Park and Playground to keep big and little kids entertained and there are also toilets in the park.

A pleasant stop to eat lunch and stretch the legs.

Wentworth Park is probably the area we visit most often for a BBQ. We have also come here regularly over the past few years to make use of the adjacent bike track while the boys were/are learning to ride.

There are several sheltered picnic tables/BBQs, toilets, a playground (including separate areas catering for toddlers and 'teenragers'), a beach, cricket nets nearby, and an easy multi-cache (surprise surprise!) to help you enjoy the local history.

Mt Keira lookout has two sets of double electric BBQs,and many sets of picnic tables to sit at.
there are a setof public toilets nearby the BBQs, but the main reason for coning up here is the view.

Mount Keira lookout affords panoramic views of the metropolis below and to the north of the city. For the more energetic, there is a choice of scenic walking tracks to suit all levels of fitness. The lookout also boasts a great restaurant, catering for light snacks & morning tea's to a la carte & weddings. This magnificent location spawns a progression of beautiful wild flowers which bloom throughout the year. Strongly scented boronias, velvet-petalled flannel flowers, wax-like Christmas bells and regal waratahs, the floral emblem of New South Wales, can all be found in this magical bushland setting when in season.

P.S. It also boasts several excelent geocache locations in the vicinity.

It really is a very pretty place. The playground has some equipment made from natural timbers, there is a sundial, a few caches nearby and clean toilets. Unfortunately ‘no dogs’ are allowed but there is a walking track from the park that winds along the beautiful Houn River and campers are allowed to stay nearby.

Rose Point Park in Singleton has 3 shaded picnic huts with 2 free electric BBQs in each (as well as tables of course).

Other facilities include sporting ovals, cricket nets & netball courts, public toilets, tap water, children's playground, benches, plenty of parking and close to shops. The river is also nearby. Vehicular access to the park is open from dusk until dawn. For the cachers amongst us, there is one geocache very close to this location and several others not far away in the town. Smile
