Cache Details
Description
Lieutenant Colonel George Barney From 19th May 1792 to 16th July 1862, Lieutenant Colonel George Barney lived his life. He was commissioned as a lieutenant in the Royal Engineers in July 1808 and served in the Peninsular war and in the West Indies, where he took part in the capture of Guadeloupe in 1815. He was promoted second captain in 1813 and captain in 1825.
On 1 January 1849 Barney was appointed chief commissioner of crown lands and in October 1851 was nominated to the Legislative Council of which he had been a member briefly in 1843 as colonial engineer. On 11 October 1855 he was appointed surveyor-general in succession to Sir Thomas Mitchell. Barney died at The Priory, St Leonards, Sydney, on 16 April 1862 and was buried in St Thomas's cemetery.
This cache is here to commemerate Lieutenant Colonel George Barney in his wonderfull ways of engineering. I hope that this cache could encourage cachers to look further into Barney's history and life!

Found on a wet Saturday, many muggles hiding under their umbrella's. It is good to see memorials to some of the engineers that helped build this country SL TNLN TFTH

Before going out for an evening dinner cruise on the tall ships we came for a wander down this way to grab a coffee, and a couple of caches.
Managed to avoid the numerous muggles to retrieve this one.
Nice to see so many logs on a GCA cache.

A LOT of muggles about today - we didn't realise that Sunday was market day ! Still, perseverance paid off and the cache was soon in hand. Thanks, The Crazyheads !

My first GCA cache. Grabbed while on a trip to Sydney to visit family. Went back to statue to sign the log to avoid the looks of nearby constabulary, re hid and on our way. Admired the huge cruise liner nearby. TFTC

I'm not sure what rudi63 was talking about, this cache is certainly intact, with the original log sheet etc. A good hide, which stood out from a cacher's perspective, but I doubt it would be found by accident. A very interesting memorial/piece of history. Thanks for the cache The Crazyheads

Almost walked away from this cache as there was a food festival on the nearby road, but the benefits of a piglet cannot be denied.
"Are you hiding from me, I'm coming after you". And the cache was in hand.
Thanks Crazyheads. Nice little cache.

A clever hiding place with lots of possibilities.
Read all about George while waiting for a group of school kids to finish their history lesson. Spied some likely spots and it was in the third one I picked. A nice place with a nice bit of history thrown in as well.
Thanks

As a engineer myself it is good to see one from the past being recognised for their achievements.
The cache was easily found once there was a break in the muggles.
The adjacent building the Cadmans Cottage, is also worth a look here, and of course you can wander throught he rocks.

Found this one under the cover of darkness. It was close to where our ship was tied up at Circular Quay. TNLNSL. TFTC Found at 20:35

A few muggles around as a cruise ship was in town but all good. If only the muggles above knew!

Found at 18:15 after half an hour of poking around and utilising flash photography because I didn't have a torch. Minor panic trying to put it back in, I couldn't remember where its hiding place was!
Took sticker, ladybeetle and bead, left bell and small bag of shinies.
The log's started on the other side, but there's still plenty of room.

This one took me a few trips due to the high muggle factor during weekday lunch time. A slight rain held them at bay today while I made the find. TFTF!

Yay! Have tried this a few times with no luck, so today I sat back while SkAttA BrAins, Iribarren and spoked tried. Sure enough it was found within a minute. I'm obviously a liability :P TFTC.

Found by Pi.
Had to pick up our tickets for the trip out to Fort Denison nearby so decided to try my hand at this cache. Pretty easy find considering the coords are a bit off and the place was crawling with muggles (not to mention the construction workers right next door). Nice spot and rather pertinent considering where we were heading.
Had the opportunity to leave the GPSr on the ground in a location that was above the cache and got what I hope are some better numbers but honestly you don't need them as the clue gives all the information required. Had the hidey-hole spied within seconds of arriving at the monument.
TFTC,
GPS.
P.S. Have often wondered about using that type of cache container, good to see they work.

Noted this hadn't been "found" for a while, so thought I'd have a go. Got it fairly quickly using the clues, but the co-ords were at best 10m and more like 20m out for mine? Maybe it was the Sat gods or all the tall buildings / foliage? Anyway logged it under cover of darkness (well as dark as it gets here). Thanks for the cache! Find #7 for today.

The last of three during a Tuesday lunch break with The Wandering Wilkos
We had tried this one the week before but a muggle was having a siesta right on top of the cache so we thought it best to leave this one for another day and today was that day.
Very nice placement, bring your lunch, and have a little nap after. The perfect lunch spot.

Together with Toonarmy this one was a lunchtime hat-trick. We grabbed this cache on the second attempt because the first time we tried, there was a muggle asleep on the front of the monument that prevented us from getting at it. Nice to find a dry log for a change as last night's rain seems to have dampened a few of the cities Mico's

A quick find once I got back to it after the new grass. The early morning sun highlighted the cache and made it very obvious if one was looking for it, which I was.

It is an easy find, but somehow I still felt bit guilty and look suspicious while searching for it.

Arrived back in the country and had things to do in the city & thought I could knock off a couple of the new CBD caches along the way. This one was not to be as they have laid some new turf nearby and the area is currently cordoned off. Another week or so and it should be good to go again.

It's nice to find a cache in Sydney without hundreds of muggles around. Very peaceful spot, no prying eyes, found it quickly. Tried to cover it a bit better as I could see it on approach.
TFTC Interesting history!

How easy was this??? Only had to wait for someone to finish their lunch before a headlong assualt at GZ. Container was semi exposed which made the job easier.

Found easily with the ablebodied assistance of Mandaj who returned to watch how a master does things. After she gave me a hint I had found it quickly without being busted by the nearby security gaurds just changing shifts. Thanks Crazyheads!

Took a trip to the Quay and boy was there a party going on - thankfully party/concert = large distraction and diversion from a stealthy geocacher ;)
After about 10 young men had peed on the wall it was time for me to look for the cache - blechh - anyway thankfully I went straight to it - touching nothing but the container.
And to my astonishment I was the first to find! Philma must be on holidays...
Took nothing left an American quarter - have just realised I wrote dime in the log - oh well an American coin.
Thanks for the hunt and the history lesson in a spot that I always love to visit. Good one Crazy heads.
Cheers
