Description
From our various excursions to the northern island we have come to realise that Tassie cachers have limited opportunities to extend their caching skills. We have very many high quality caches but do not have the number and range of really annoying and pesky hides that the inhabitants of the bigger island enjoy(?)!.
Yes, we mean micro and nano caches on large metallic objects such as artillery pieces, historic machinery, 2D and 3D sculptures. We looked for very small caches on guns, tanks (army style, not water), tractors, windmills and markers welcoming visitors to towns and district. It seemed that every town and area visited had one of these caches and we all know how hard it is to drive past a cache – well, you just cannot bypass an opportunity for a smiley.
Although there are some examples in our great island, there aren’t the number to enable us to really hone our skills. This series of caches will enable the southern islanders to develop their skills, to get their own back on northern islanders for the frustrating cache hunts when touring the other side of the strait and for all to curse the hiders of these caches in Tassie. Hopefully the caches will be placed in locations where a true geocacher just cannot go past without having a look. Not all hides will be diabolical – just a few!
There are two guns at this location, a field gun and a mortar. There is always plenty of passing traffic and at, times, there are numerous people frequenting the RSL Club over the road. hence, muggles may be an issue at some times of the day.

maybe a quick check by CO to confirm the cache is still here.
will come back in future to have another look for this one.
I usually say thanks for the cache....but with these ones....sometimes I wonder....but yes, thanks for the cache guys.
In the end I just searched both guns, starting with the wrong one, of course. Just as I found it, the GPS came good and pinpointed the correct weapon. Grrrr!
I hope others in the series are this easy???
Today was the first day of a two caching expedition with Budgietas and Cheesy Pigs. The day was fine and just what you want for caching.
Left Huonville at 0700hrs, met up with the two other finders and left for Launceston about 0900hrs. Got back to Huonville on the first of November at 2340hrs. A great trip; first day excellent and was topped off with an event and caching to mid-night after. Crashed for the night down near the airport.
This cache was my seventeenth find for the day:
Arrived at ground zero and with three sets of eyes and three sets of hands, we proceeded to search high and low for this cache. This little blighter could not be found so an assumption was made that it had "gone missing action", in other words; it was AWOL!
After a phone call to the CO; the cache replaced and is again ready to cause some cussing and cursing.
The was "found", ie replaced at 1600hrs.
Only one more to find in this series now!
Cheers and TFTC
OldSaint.
From here it was off to the next cache.
This days caching produced fourty-one finds for me, eclipsing my previous best finds for a day by twelve finds, total of forty-one for the trip so far. I think Cheesy beat his previous best too.
Thanks for the cache;
Cheers OldSaint.
Hi 2ys
We searched and searched and searched this gun for the cache, and you hint / direction put us to a spot where each of us had searched previously. Unforuntantly the cache was gone, and after attempting to check with the CO, and knowing it was not in place, cheesy came up with a replacement cache.
So it's back ready to be found.
Thanks for the cache.
Now I know we've all heard "we were in the area" but this time we really were out for a walk at Railton when the phone email arrived alerting me of the cache.
So we finished our walk out at Native Rock Road and returned via the car for a quick drink and paced ourselves for the 912m to the cache.
Upon arrival - well these guns do have a lot of hidey spots! And it did take a few minutes to track the elusive little blighter down.
But then ... no pen ... so a quick sprint back to the nearest shop and the signing was done.
TFTC!
PS BTW, I have our walking tracking to show we were "in the area"
PPS - We were cursing the Hider !
