Description
Koo Wee Rup Swamp lookout, flood and draining history
This is the original site of drainage of the Koo Wee Rup swamp (originally called Reeces inlet). The drainage commenced in 1889 and was conducted and overseen by Italian immigrant Carlo Enrico Catani.
He initially found the work of the inital contractors and workmen poor and devised a system by offering young married men small farms on the newly drained land, in exchange for their labour. The men worked hard for the respected Catani and by 1898, the drainage and works were complete.
If you climb the look-out tower, you'll be able to see the swamp and surrounding areas. Thanks to the drainage, Koo Wee Rup and surounding areas are thriving farming communities.

No find in almost a year (since 12 February 2012), 2 DNFs since then, no apparent action from the CO despite a request to do so, the CO hasn't accessed their GCA account since 14 February 2012 or their GC account since 13 March 2012 - to me, that all adds up to a need to archive this one unfortunately .
We are coming down this way at Xmas and would love to know if it is still there. Could the owner check for us please
Well there is really only one place it could be and I'm pretty sure its not there anymore. Hope it was just a bad day but there has been a fair bit of water through here,
On our way to the island to smash the 30+ Power trail, then followed by the night cache. Hard day to hit them all in just a few or so hours. However this one was the first of the rank and an easy find. Surprised & excited we were to find a nice clean page for a *FTF*
Always enjoy stopping here for a pitstop with great views from the tower.
Thx for the cache - nice hide.
