Description

This frog likes forest leaf litter but is happy among bushrock as well. She is on the larger side for a normal frog but still quite light. The cache container is made with garden irrigation pieces and is not big enough for much more than the log. You will need your own pencil as well. She is a greenish grey colour and this colouring comes she tells me from continually chewing charcoal. She needs a regular feed of charcoal or at least being able to fossic around in areas that have previously been burnt. Charcoal (Char for short) does not need to be in recently burnt areas or currently burning areas for that matter. She is able to absorb charcoal through her skin as well as ingest it. She is sighted frequently is in old BBQ pits. So picnic spots anywhere with wood BBQ areas would be a fine ideas and she will be able to visit some very scenic locations.

We had come up the Exeter on our way to Lilydale and noticed that there was a moveable hiding under the bridge so made a slight detour to pick it up. Charcoal Frog had spent a cold night in a hole in a tree so was glad to take a seat in a warm car.

Will put it out again soon.

Took this frog on a bit of a journey. She's been grabbed by Friesianess now but I gave instructions to ensure the next hide involves charcoal! RibbitVery Happy

Actually drove right past this frog on my way from Tamworth to Inverell via Armidale. Got to Armidale before I realised. Given the road works,it was a tough decision but after completing my business in Armidale, back I went. As it eventuated, it turned out quite well as I caught the "green" on the road works heading south and then avoided them on the way back by diverting up the Thunderbolt Way. Arrived in Inverell at exactly the same time the GPS had predicted when heading directly from Armidale.
Nice frog, well worth the effort but where to now? RibbitVery Happy

What a nice frog Char is, she looked totally at home in our garden. Unfortunately Char needed to keep moving and we couldn't have picked a windier day to do it. Winds at some places had been recorded at 100kph so we had to find a sheltered little nook where a Ribbit and her cover wouldn't be blasted off the face of the earth. Found an easy spot to pull off the New England Highway, big enough for all size vehicles, and with a bit of bushranging history. Very Happy Till we meet again Char .........

Didn't realise there were two moveables at the one spot as Char's icon was hidden underneath. Picked up the weighty Char from the leaf litter beside the Clarence along with Gullivers on the Move. Seems this Ribbit hasn't been doing much travelling out of SEQ and NSW Northern Rivers. How about a stint at the frosty NSW Northern Tablelands? Wink Great to see this 7 year old cache still going strong. TFTC Renroc.

We have placed Charcoal Frog in a hiding spot amongst the fig tree roots beside the Clarence River. A short detour from the highway and a quick park and grab. GULLIVERS ON THE MOVE moveable cache is keeping Charcoal Frog company, and hopefully they can travel together. Happy caching. Clan MinotaurClan MinotaurVery Happy

We have retrieved Charcoal Frog and will move it on to Yamba in the next few days.

Periodically the Geocaching Australia review team checks moveable caches that haven’t been found or moved in over 90 days.

This moveable fits that brief, however reading previous logs it seems to still be at the posted co-ords and is just sitting there waiting for the next finder to give it a go.

So, if you’re in area why not stop by and help it on its way.

What a surprise to find this old friend again.

"Not you again", He said, "You can leave me where I am. i am enjoying myself here".

"Ok", I said, "I don't want to lug your weight around again. I have had to do it 3 times before and I am sick of your constant chatter".

I see he has had a few running repairs done since I last found him and is looking happy.

Plenty of charcoal to roll around in around here.

I have left him where he is.

Well, what are you doing at at Letterbox, Char?? Ribbit What, you want to move quickly? OK. Ribbit Let's take you over to the RSL and see what happens there, shall we? Ribbit I know just a nice shady spot amongst some leaf litter in the corner of the ANZAC garden that would be a nice resting spot for a little while. Ribbit

Bought Charcoal home from the weekend adventure as the chain holding his plug had broken. Cable ties secured it and have dropped him at this letterbox. He did see a few burnt stumps and smell some wood smoke over the weekend as well as a change in diet of some lolly caches too so I hope he had a good time. Smile

Saw this little guy [:frog] sitting next to the Boyd's TB Hotel cache last night. Picked him up and saw the tag and I thought "goody, another TB to join the weekend adventure" When I got back to the car and went to wipe his dirty feet I saw his name. I had seen this one listed at a cache up in Brisbane and found out a bit about moveable caches. I got pretty excited as Charcoal is my first moveable cache find. I will take him on this trip and look for somewhere suitable to drop him off.
When I went to replace his log the little chain broke as it is rusty.
PLEASE ENSURE YOU HAVE THE LOG CONTAINER WHEN YOU PICK THIS LITTLE FELLOW UP.

I had a few hours to kill will the Little Lancer was being fixed nearby. It is geo-sports time, so I had looked up some GCA caches to find nearby and this one was the closest. Technically not been found for a few years this one. Very Happy Still in great condition. I moved it to a new home. It might get some more finders in its new home. Wink

He should enjoy his new spot.

At the request of the Frog owner I checked out this guy. After virtually 3 years in the wilderness he was still there. Just sitting there smiling at me as I approached.

I think he has put on a bit of weight since I saw him last.

I will drop him off somewhere closer soon.

I was looking for Drifter II (GA2069) and found this fellow sitting beside the cache. "Hello", I said "Haven't I seen you somewhere before?"

As soon as he started to talk I remembered that deep voice from when the race was on .I told him the race was over but I would move him to another spot where he might find more charcoal.

I'm still here right by the scribbly gum - the really big one. GPSr reception is a lot off - the silly mr bee got the co-ords wrong. I am about 1km farther north. Will fix next week-end.

A lot of potential around here for some charcoal.

We had a couple of frogs in the back wouldn't stop fighting - they both wanted the window sit, so we tossed them out the window as we drove past a little known pond and they landed right on top of a fellow competitor who squealed in fright and jumped right back in the direction from when twinkle toes and red 3 had come.

A frog in the back seat is better than 2 frogs in the bush.

"I didn't like that pond anyway - it was stagnant and full of queensland toads, thanks for the lift".

"Ok, I've had enough of your continuous burping. Get Out," I said.

" But you can't leave me here. There is no charcoal to eat" was the reply.

" At least here I can keep an eye on you while I am at work" I said. "This is a nice spot beside the tree. You can jump into the pond and get some exercise. It might help you lose some weight."

It was easy to locate Charcoal. I could hear her munching as I approached.

"Boy! Have you put on some weight." I exclaimed.

"It is Fangsoki's fault," she said, "He left me here with tons on charcoal around and I have been eating lots of it"

"Come on," I replied, "You can't blame Fangsoki. It was Renroc who put out the message that you liked Charcoal". "I am going to have to talk to Renroc about giving frogs personalities. You are going on a diet starting now. And don't think I am going to carry you back to the car. You can walk ..er... Hop all the way. That might get a bit of the weight off you. And I am going to find a place where you will have a decent diet for a while".

We arrived back at the car and I introduced her to "leapfrog the Stump" before leapfrog decided he wanted to stay here for a while.

We were suprised to see a little pair of eyes peering back at us when we removed the GC cache from the log.... A frog in a log... Will have to move her on.

She hopped into the Fangsoki mobile to head to Brisvegas.

Cheers Renroc.

Went straight to the frog in the little park at West Burleigh. I must say she's a very good colour for a frog on the run. And very glad she was to see me, I could tell from the smile on her face. We went for a drive until I found a suitable new pozzy for her. Up on Pine Creek Road at Springbrook. In GC35EKK "Pine Creek Road". Lots of charcoal, she begged to be left there even though it may not get a lot of visitors. Never mind she said, I'll be happy as a frog in charcoal. ClappingClappingClapping

I awoke this morning to find Charcoal in my liquor cabinet.

"What are you doing?", I asked sleepily.

"I could smell charcoal.", was her reply.

"But there is no burnt stuff in there". I said, rubbing the sleep from my eyes.

"Oh, yes there is but not in the form that you think", was her response. "The spirits are all aged in charcoal barrels. I thought that if I had a sip or two I might get the taste of charcoal, its been a while since I've had any".

"Sounds like its time for you to leave".

We've placed Charcoal in a spot where she might find the taste she is looking for. While there arn't any wood bbqs here there is evidence of an old fire in the nearby bush, also since its just next door to the Guide Hut, there might be remains of old cooking or campfires should she care to forage.

"Petan its too wet".

Charcoal knew we were planning on relocating her today but as she stared forlornly out the laundry window, we agreed that perhaps she could stay with us another day and help decorate the Christmas tree.

We were travelling south hoping to get to the Murwillumbah Farmers Markets before they closed when just after we passed Condong we heard ...

"Give me a home among the gum trees, crock, crock
With lots of plum trees, crock crock"...

I said to Mr Petan, "that sounds like a happy little soul, I wonder where it is coming from?".

His reply that it sounded like a frog and it appeared to be coming from the little park on the riverside. "Shall we investigate?", I asked.

His response was to pull in to the rest stop and as we parked the car the singing seemed a little louder but just as happy.

"A sheep or two and a kangaroo,
a clothes line out the back, crock crock
veranda out the front, crock"....

We walked towards the source of the singing and moved aside the leaves to reveal ....

"and an old rocking chair,
oh hello, I'm Charcoal and you are?"

"We're Petan", was our reply. This seemed to have jiggered something in her memory.

"Have we met before?", Charcoal asked.

"No, I don't believe so." was our reply.

"Where are you from?", she asked.

"Currumbin", was our response.

"That's in South East Queensland isn't it?".

"Yes it is."

"Can I come home with you? Please, please, please", she pleaded.

"Why?", we asked.

"Um, um,", she said slowly, then much faster "'cause theres no charcoal here and I'm hungry".

"Well we don't have any charcoal at home either", we remarked.

"Doesn't matter, doesn't matter. I'll find SOMETHING around your house. PLEASE may I come home with you?"

"Ok", we said, wondering why this frog seemed to know us and why she was singing the "Home Among the Gumtrees" song.

PS The name of the park is called Bullamakankas Rest.

Being such a warm day, it made sense that we would go somewhere coastal today. We tripped up to Point Danger, where two of Petan’s frogs hitched a ride with us. Char certainly enjoyed their company – all three of them on the front seat all the way to Hastings Point.
The frogs were starting to get hungry – but there wasn’t any charcoal for Char to chomp on, so I thought he would have to go without his lunch, but he found some old beach rock that was the next best thing. After a nice swim it was time to head home, but Char decided he wanted to jump ship in Murwillumbah, and try his luck for a lift up or down the Tween Valley Way.
Until we meet again!

We were in Lismore this afternoon and noticed that there was a new frog in town. It would be too rude if we didn’t go and say G’day. We found this lovely specimen quite easily. He was watching the families in Heritage Park enjoying the mild afternoon. He’d been thinking about Petan’s offer to venture further north, and wished he’d taken them up on the offer. “That’s just too much of a coincidence”, I said. “I’m headed North tomorrow – 3 frogs have been spotted in the Rainbow Bay region and I’m going to check them out. Care for a lift?” And with that he hopped into our hands. We sat 10 meters away at the park bench and had some fish and chips. At least 10 muggle families walked past and stared at Char, wondering why he was perched up between the kids at the bench. If only they knew.

So tonight Char spends the night in Kyogle – he’s watching TV with the kids as I write this log. Tomorrow – who knows where we’ll end up!

Had a chat to Charcoal and offered a lift north. But she said no thanks. She was still trying to decide where to go.
