FROGGER

  FROGGER

Frogger heard there is a frog race going on. A master of crossing road and rivers, avoiding cars, buses, and crocodiles this little frog has come out of retirement to show other GCA frogs what cache racing is all about.

One of the most successful classic video games of all time. It started as an arcade game in 1981. Since then it has been ported to many different platforms, and can be found at many different websites on the Internet. This game is very simple to learn, and highly addictive.

Frogger has entered the race on a Lime Green Nintendo Gameboy Color, which is a bit of history in itself as the screen is not backlit like modern lcd screens, it has a mirror behind the screen to reflect light back though it so you can see the colors(high tech for a handheld consol back in 1998). Not much good in the dark. So best used in sunlight or attach the special light that comes with it.

The object of the game is to get five frogs, one at a time, to the empty docks on the other side of the river, before the time runs out. Do this by maneuvering each frog across the freeway through traffic and across the river, without falling in. Then, you move on to the next level in a never-ending points quest.
All you have to do is push a direction on the d-pad, and the frog will take one hop in that direction. Avoid cars, alligators, snakes, and the water. Touching any of these will result in loss of a frog, and since you only start with three, you don't have any to spare. You can ride on the back of an alligator floating downstream, but watch out for his mouth. When it opens he'll eat you. Pick up female frogs and flies for bonus points. Be careful of turtles, because in every level there a few that will go up and down in the water. If you are riding on one when it goes under, you will lose a frog. The difficulty goes up as you ascend the levels, making this game very addictive and replayable.

The game runs on AA batteries I have put two good quality rechargable batteries in it, please charge them if you get a chance.  Please look after frogger and take care hiding this cache as if muggles find it it will be gone for good. The container should be fairly water tight but it may also be worth hiding it somewhere fairly dry.

There are 3 MakkyBrown pathtags up for grabs for the top3 scores by the end of the race. The game doesn't save the top scores so you will have to either write your top score in the log or take a photo of the top score screen and post your score in cache image gallery. The game runs on AA batteries I have put two good quality rechargable batteries in it, please charge them if you are able.

If possible frogger would like to stay in Tasmania as it would be nice if he returned home at the end of the race.

Have fun.

You must move it on within 2 days

Found this frog and many others during a frog raid encompassing The Domain, Howrah, South Hobart and Mount Stuart.
In all, 47 frogs and a gnome were recovered and they will be placed out in the bush tomorrow. Maybe we'll take them to Cockle Creek, NO. Strathgordon or the old Hilton Hotel at Adamsfield! YES. They are good places.

SPLAT.

Yet again.

I HATE this game. I end up killing frogs (and time) for very low scores. Life is too short and frogs are too precious!

He is out again (access from Cottesloe St), and there are three other frogs hiding together not far away.

21-Jan-12
Accepted this frog from gorbak not far from the Dragon's Lair. Frogs and dragons probably do not mix! I now have a chance to improve my score, but I suspect I won't beat gorbak or RebornCyclist.

20-Jan-12
Am I belaying you tomorrow, gorbak? Just asking..,.

20-Jan-12
sounds like it's game on for the last 2 weeks of Ribbit frogger Ribbit in the frog race! RibbitRibbitRibbit

Enjoy the dragon hunting tomorrow, our kids are too young so giving it a miss but maybe next year..

Well, what do you know... I did have just one more game and managed to scrape together a total of 12670. Dancing Sorry RC!

Close! Only 550 between 1st and 2nd. But I fear gorbak will have closed that gap by tomorrow...

Hi MakkyBrown
Arrived at ground zero and asked about the cache and it was quickly in hand.
Here, I met both team members of "Ilikelenses38." A very pleasant conversation ensued. Thanks for the great chat!
Logged this cache at 1645hrs.
Put him in the car ready for his next journey.
Had a game or two before hiding it again.

Frogger is hanging out with frognutz...so a nice double find!
Open hours 9am - 5pm Wednesday to Saturday. You will need to ask for these frogs by pushing the shop bell at the front of the property, due to frogger being a tad sensitive

Frogger is hanging out with his new mate Frognutz. These frogs are located inside the building at said co-ords. You will need to ask for these frogs as frogger is a tad sensitive about being left out. If I'm not home geomum or geodad should be. Open hours are 9am-9pm

Will rehide them soon

21-Dec-11
We (geo kid a, geo kid I and myself) did a frog run around Hobart, sorell, Richmond and glenorchy and came up with 12 moveables including 10 frogs, one traffic sign moveable and the touring teddies. Great little get for three and a quarter hours including re hiding all bar two frogs.

Found this cache at 8.18. Glad to have found this again.

I did not do particularly well at the game. My max score was 3620, and then I gave up before I became addicted or killed off all the frogs in existence. This cache is now hiding in the vicinity of three others, so don't just go for this one.

Coords are S42° 51.882' E147° 19.497' (I messed up the initial log)

I was confused for a minute, because it was hiding with Flowerpot Frog. I shall take these friends southwards.

It would take us some time to get the hang of this in order to get a high score. So far, our best score (individually) is 1230. Being of a certain area where reflexes are slowing down, we probably think too much before acting!! Well, Frogger is on the prowl again.

15-Dec-11
Maybe this frog might come back south eventually so I get to have a look at it Doh

14-Dec-11
Picked up on a frog-napping raid south from the North West. Thank goodness for the comments in the log - the cache was over 40m from the published coordinates. Frogger will now return with us to the North West so we can try the game before Frogger resumes his wanderings. TFTF

Thanks Makky for the advise. Had no takers so put it out tonight on the way home from Mount Dromedary. Sorry TimTam, had I known you would have liked to play with this croaker, would have made arrangements to pass him on - was up Norfolk today - apologies.

A geo croakers event is taking place on the Domain - five hoppers up for grabs. Just trying to keep them central so they keep moving!Cheers OldSaint.

09-Dec-11
Hi Timtamtoo,

Maybe just send whoever has the cache a message though the gca forum private messaging. Asking where it can be found?
Part of the reason I was agreeing with Budgietas about this cache being handed cacher to cacher is I was shocked to learn recently on our trip to WA that there are dishonest cachers out there(I don't recon there are any in tas). I told a couple of WA cachers about this cache and they laughed at me saying "that won't last long" and preceded to tell me all the problems they were having. I would just like it to last awhile so as many local cachers as possible can get a go playing frogger over the course of the frog race.
Cheers

08-Dec-11
Just wondering how it is supposed to go from cacher to cacher when this cacher doesn't know any of the other cachers and works stupid hours. Looks like this is one I won't get to see. Plenty of other frogs out there though. Hoppy caching to you all

08-Dec-11
Hi Old Saint,
Up to you, atm if possible try and hand it to another cacher. Those interested might contact the cacher who has it etc. But if unable to find someone to hand it to just put it out as normal. Just keep an extra good eye out for muggles and maybe a bit of extra care hiding. I'm hoping this survives for a good while so a fair few cachers get a go etc. I don't mind if it takes more than the two day to move.
Cheers

Hi Makky
What a great cache. After racing all over Hobart and West Moonah, I picked this guy up from Budgie this afternoon. Had a couple of games tonight but couldn't beat the Blue Bird's score.
I am not sure of the understanding that you need to pass this cache from cacher to cacher, or can you take it out into the field and hide as usual?
So if anyone would like to have a FOUND with their name next to this cache, arrangements can be made for this terrific cache to be moved on. Otherwise....Out as soon as possible!
Thanks for the cache, the fun I've had at home; cheers OldSaint.

Handed to Old Saint. I agree with Marky, this moveable should be handed around, not hidden.

06-Dec-11
Good idea Budgietas, might be worth making this a hand to another geocacher cache. I don't mind if it takes more than 2 days to move on. I won't be upset if it gets lost or broken(as I purchased it just for this race) but it would still be nice to get it back at the end of the race. I found using the light makes the screen a lot easier to see.

06-Dec-11
Well I didnt find it - it was passed to me by Reborn Cyclist.

The thing I have a problem with this is if I take it home - it may be difficult to get it back out of the geo kids hands. I must admit I had a quick game at work. Bit scared about putting this one out - I might try to hand directly to cheesy or old saint or whoever comes into my office next.

I explained this cache to the little cyclists, and they were mad keen to get the find, so we diverted on the way home.
As we pulled up, so did WhiteWebbs.
I decided it would be unsporting to race Mrs WhiteWebbs to the letterbox, but maybe I should have, as she went to the wrong one first Smile.
We came to an arrangement, as the kids were keen to play, and swapped Postal Frog for Frogger (as well as a hint for Party Trick), while the MakkyBrown team watched on.
Thanks!

04-Dec-11
FTF at 1405 just beating RC. As we were leaving Frogger croaked I want to go with the kids who might play with me, so off he leapt. We may get a chance later to play the game but space invaders is more my style.
