Description

P-p-p-please move me on during the Leap Frog race during December & January.

I am a Stuttering Barred Frog, also known as Mixophyes balbus

I'm relatively large and muscular, growing to about 8 cm in length. You'll recognise my large, black eyes and vertical pupils, webbed feet, barred hind legs and a black line from the snout, through the eye and above the ‘ear’. The body colour is brown to olive-green and may be broken into irregular blotches. The underside is creamy-white. The adult has a pale-blue crescent across the upper half of the eye; this, and the call - a stuttering ‘ugh’ or ‘op', distinguishes the species from other barred frogs.

I'm on the endangered list, as I've already been wiped out in Victoria, and haven't been seen anywhere north of Sydney for ages. Wouldn't mind visiting those places again!

Rules of the game:-

  • Your cache must be a genuine, bone fide frog.
  • Your frog may be store bought or hand crafted.
  • You are welcome to join the game after it has started provided you list the hidden date and published date as 1 December 2011 and add the word leapfrog to your cache tags
The later you enter your frog the less time there is to get it moving, so you are encouraged to enter the game at the commencement
  • You are required to add the word leapfrog to the tags on your entry at Geocaching Australia
You can add the word leapfrog to your tags by visiting your cache page and clicking on Tag in the Actions section in the right hand navigation section of your cache page
  • The game commences at 00:00:00 1 December 2011 AEDST and concludes 23:59:59 31 January 2012 AEDST
  • The game administrators decision is final
  • You can not find and move your own cache during the game period
  • Caches must be found and hidden by the same cacher (i.e. no mailing the cache to another cacher to hide)
  • There is no limit to the number of times other cachers can find / move the cache provided there are at least two other finds / moves in between
  • If a cacher moves your cache overseas and it remains unfound overseas for 1 week or more, the same cacher may move your cache (within the country or to another country) without breaking the "2 moves" rule
  • There is no limit to the distance other cachers can move the cache
  • Other cachers in the game may find / move your cache, but they must move it on within 2 days

Logs

This cache looks like it's MIA so we'll archive it to stop it turning up in lists and queries. If it resurfaces then the owner can resurrect it by placing an "Unarchived" log against it.

I didn't move him but he was seen at the Oz Mega event in Albury. SO I am changing his location to that. That way people won't go looking for him in Lismore.

Belated logging of one of the many frogs that had invaded Albury for the Oz Mega event - they all seemed to be having a fantastic time together, catching up on the froggy news and sharing the many stories of their adventures over the last few months.
TFTC - and safe travels...

Not too far from the pool and bowling club this little fellow leapt under a pink flowering gum. Right behind a tomato bush too. Parking nearby. Ribbit

19-Jan-12
Snuck up on him while he was chatting to the lorikeets nearby. I think he must have talked so much that his stutter is going away.... He quite clearly said hi are you going to take me to a new place? But then when I said yes his "Th-th-thank you" showed he was not totally rid of this stutter. I can not however find the logbook.

After our trip to Brunswick Heads and a rest at home under the air-con, we went to the Aquatic centre for a swim. I took Barred with us because I thought he might enjoy all the water. We had just got out of the car when he yelled out:

H.h.h.here! I w.w.w.want to s.s.s.stay here!

And so we left him in the shade of some grass chatting to a colourful parrot.

(Watery Wonderland cache is nearby so don't forget to grab that while you're there if you haven't already got it)

On our way to Brunswick we stopped and picked up this little fellow. He seems to be totally exhausted. I asked if he'd been hot the past couple of days and he just nodded.

He is sitting under the air-con at the moment looking less bedraggled and a bit more chirpy. Once he's cooled down I'll see where he wants to go next.

"P...p...please leave me here", Barred Stutterer asked when while we were logging our find on the Bangalow ICEM. "B..b..banga..l...l..ow seems like an interesting town."

So we left him right next to the Banaglow ICEM so the next finder can both collect a frog and log the cache (if they haven't already logged this one before).

Perhaps is because we've moved enough frogs for us to be tuned into the frog network, but we awoke to the feeling that we needed to find us some frogs - in particular a group of frogs in Riverhills. With this notion ringing in our ears we packed a picnic, filled the car with fuel and headed off.

Our destination was an interesting little park that reminded us of man's ability to generate electricity, a short walk following the arrow and three small frogs greeted us.

"P..p..pleased to m...m...meet you" said Barred Stutterer.

"Hello", was our reply, "We haven't met anyone like you before, you're beautiful".

"I...I..I'm feeling a a a a l...l..little dull" he said.

"Yes I suppose you are" was our response. "Would you like to come home with us?"

I think the effort of trying to talk was a bit much because he just nodded his head. We took him to the car and we we arrived home placed him under the daylight lamp on my craft bench. Energized by the light from my lamp he seemed a little brighter but I think he needs to rest in the sun for a while.

THIS FROG HAS BEN FOUND AND REMOVED.IT IS NO LONGER IN TOOWOOMBA.

I have been in Toowwoomba a few times since this frog took up residence with my ICEM cache. I did not pick it up because I knew that I would not be in a position to shift and hide this one in a spot where the chances of it being found and moved wer.

In Toowoomba today to visit my parents for Christmas and it was still there.

Will hide it tomorrow in the River Hills area of Brisbane. TFTC

Dropped off stutterer & 2 others at the Toowoomba ICEM. A good location with plenty of scrub to hide in.

Found this froggie yesterday but left with someone else. Since I was in the neighbourhood, thought I would grab this frog again and put just a few km's on it. Will move on today.

Handed over to Wilbert after a meeting of GCA minds. Barred is actually near the roundabout shown as croom, not here.

Found this frog & introduced him to one of his mates - green & gold. They practised their calls all the way up to West Dapto, fortunately not as rude as Pobblebonk. He had an impromptu meeting near a forgotten graveyard then was handed over to Wilbert. Oh yes - a FTF for me, one of many, ho ho.

01-Dec-11
Again it is moving back south, this time it was placed here by me. Check the sign!

01-Dec-11
Neither am I the FTF but I am the one who moved it on! Funny meeting!

So to be clear, this is the placed the FTF cacher put it, he will announce himself later!

Another frog I got to find at an chance frog meeting in Kembla Grange. Shiny! Thanks to Wilbert67 and Tuena for sharing.
