Description

Featuring a craftsman structure of an old railway

So named because here, Domino Trail crosses Domino Creek. A 200ml Sistema that has no swag as this cache gets flooded from time to time. The log is Pretex waterproof paper. The Sistema is large enough for pathtags and most non absorbent swaggies.

Muggles can appear silently on the trail above but if you look like you are fossicking or photographing it shouldn't be too much of a problem. Please observe how the cover is placed and replace accordingly.

This section of the Daylesford-Carlsruhe branch line ran between Lyonville and Trentham. It now carries part of the Domino Trail. You don't see this creek tunnel when walking or riding the trail so the cache is placed to facilitate easiest access off the trail for a view. The tunnel is tall enough for many to walk through without stooping. You may wish to carry a torch.

The Domino Trail starts/ends at the old Trentham Rail Station and is 8km return. Get a Domino Trail guide at the Station Info Centre. At least part of the bush you pass through is a protected area for the Powerful Owl. Unfortunately we have yet to see one.

You can choose to continue past the Domino Trail turnaround to get into Lyonville -- along the rail track then at the old bridge across the Coliban R, either cross the river bed and continue the rail trail or if river is running, take the track to the left, then next right. The Radio Springs Hotel reopened recently for hot drinks, cold drinks and meals and appears very popular for weekend lunch. The 'radio' refers to the radioactive springs at Lyonville that were popular earlier last century for their supposed therapeutic value.

For approaches from Lyonville see GA2246 Coliban #1 Rail Bridge. There are many other interesting caches in the Trentham area.

Ah well, I feel better now that I couldn't find it Smile It would seem that I need to clear out the archived GCA caches in the GSAK database... Thanks.

Inspected cache and found it waterlogged yet again. A Feathertop has recently placed a cache GC3QWCD for the same feature, I will not replace this cache. Sad

Another flood and another wet cache. Taking a lead from GC2M2CN 'The old Red White & Blue', I stripped the container of all swag except pathtags. The diary is now waterproof paper and I transferred the only entry. The container is now a small 200ml Sistema. I also noted an addtional easy entry point in the description.

Flood subsided and cache dried out. Seasonal closure at entry point 55S 258371E 5858678N, 37°23.235'S, 144°16.242'E is now lifted although probably need a 4WD until end of October and also if coming from E on 4WD. Access by tracks from SW reasonably dry. Domino Trail is fine.

Lost this cache on GA site - instead of Disabling, seems I Retracted it and it ended up as Draft again. Whistle

Given the massive amounts of water around, dmas and creeks overflowing, I suspect this cache is no under water from the nearby Domino Creek. So to avoid any mishaps it is retracted until the water recedes and I can check it out.

Rats. I've been watching this and hoping no-one would get there before I could. Unfortunately, the last (and next) couple of weeks are pretty hectic. Oh well, kennythe1st will be putting out more soon. Hopefully I can get to those quicker Smile

Found 12.20pm
This one was a great walk and a long search. Convinced my new son in law to come on the walk with me today and we both loved the bush and the wildlife on the way to GZ. Enjoyed the highlighted feature but then spend a good 30mins hunting for the well hidden cache. In the end we found it just where the GPSr was always pointing but we just did not trust it.

Took FTF prize (thanks)
Left 2 x Keeper of Time pathtags

Thanks kennythe1st for some fantastic geofitness and the challenge of the hide.
