Hidden Garden

Cache is not at the listed co ordinates

Once solved it will bring you to Avondale Gardens

Located 18 kilometres from Koetong and 12 kilometres down the Avondale Road, you will find Shelley’s ‘Avondale Gardens’. Situated on the old ‘Avondale’ homestead site, this garden was established by Peg Bird when she was resident at the homestead during the 1940s. While little remains of the homestead itself, apart from some remnant walls, Peg’s magnificent botanical garden containing exotic trees, shrubs, rock walls and a water tank remains today. The garden has lived on, thanks to the hard work of local volunteers and is now over 76 years old. The gardens are a peaceful place where everyone is welcome to enjoy a picnic at the adjoining picnic area or just to wander and admire the gardens and appreciate the vision of Peg and the hard work of the local volunteers. Dubbed ‘The Secret Garden’ due to its slightly hidden location, there have been many gatherings at Avondale Gardens. Please be aware that the Avondale Road is gravel and in wet weather is not suitable for two wheel drive vehicles.

When this one came out we were straight on to it as we have been coming to Avondale semi-regularly for the past 30 years.
The puzzling started off quite well as we pulled an obvious set of co-ords out, and plugged them in the pointing box for a look....
Hang on, that doesn't look right.....
Check again....
Nope, still doesn't look right, and the checker didn't like it either....
Then it dawned on us....the old red herring trick!... nearly got us!..thankfully a bit of local knowledge saved us from that goose chase!
So it was back to the puzzle.....and no matter what we did, we came up with nothing except the red herring.....
One thing to do......we'll do it the old fashioned way....
So we jumped in the car for a day out, and rocked up to the very familiar POI, and starting looking, which fortunately didn't take very long and the cache was soon found, and we signed our names in the FTF spot.
So thanks Tassie Trekkers for bringing us back to one of our favourite spots, we usually come here on Mother's Day to photograph the autumn colours, but we came a bit earlier this year.
