Description
A virtual cache at the lookout overlooking Broken Hill.
The oversized Park Bench was created by Sean O'Keeffe with the assistance of Bob Dyson and Frank Scognamigilo as part of the 2002 Landscapes and Backgrounds Contemporary Public Art in Broken Hill. Sean created this conceptual work so as to confront adults to sit as children - reduced in scale within an otherwise familiar environment.
Update July 2018: Probably in the interests of public safety, the council has deemed it unsafe to climb on the bench, and has also surrounded the bench with chains, so it's now a "No Climb'" attraction.
To log this as a find your log must include a picture of yourself, standing or seated in front of the Park Bench holding your GPS. It is your choice whether you are inside or outside the chains.
Congratulations to TheBeagleHasLanded on the First To Find. |

Day 4 - and a whole day exploring around Broken Hill. Another neat Virtual found and logged. We stayed on the outside for our photos.
Thanks WanderingAus !!
We visited the miners memorial this afternoon. Such a fascinating piece of history.
That is definitely larger than your average park bench. Took a few photos and then did the nearby earthcache.

We found this one after returning to the Line of Load Lookout.
Many thanks for the virtual Wandering Aus
photo to upload tonight
Another fine Spring day for a trip around in Broken Hill with Tassie Trekkers.
Less muggles around today, with the local "Festival" now over.
Thanks for the cache WanderingAus,

After finding this cache we took a short walk through the lookout and saw all the names of the people that died in the BRoken Hill mines. I still stand by my statement, a crusher has got to be a very painful death!!!!!!
The memorial to deceased miners was a very sombre yet interesting ediface, but the Big Bench was a bit wacky.
We loved Broken Hill, a very interesting place.
We recommend seeing
- The Royal Flying Doctor Service base
- The School of the Air
- The Living Desert Sculpture Park
- The Big Picture
- as many art galleries and mining museums as you can take
- Silverton, and the Daydream Mine while you're out that way
Photo attached (I hope!)
Cheers
This was the first BHP town, obviously. It was also our first experience of a BHP town.
Having visited a few now, this is probably, without question, the worst, not that any of them are a place I would want to live, for ANY reasons...
Definitely worth driving up for the view of Broken Hill.
TFTC.

Provides a great view of the town.
TFTC!
Only if I showed the GPS. After reading the message from wandering aus I had to change it from found it too noted. Big mistake.
