Description

Please note access to the poppet head closes at sunset

The lookout, situated at the top of Camp Hill, was originally a poppet head from the Garden Gully United mine (one of Bendigo's richest mines) and was installed in its current location in 1931. During goldrush times, prior to the poppet head's installation, a flag was flown at the top of Camp Hill to signal that the mail had arrived in town. At this time Camp Hill was completely denuded of trees and the flag could effectively be seen from across the town.

At the foot of the poppet head lookout is the Bendigo Heritage Mosaic which was completed in 1987 and designed by mosiac artist Maery Gabriel. The installation work was completed by local volunteers. The mosiac depicts various aspects of the towns history and is designed to be viewed while looking down from the lookout.

You are looking for a nano hidden way up there for the 2016/2017 scavenger game.

We are still in Bendigo and it was cold and wet today. We ventured to this lovely park and attempted to find the cache. It would help if you weren't scared of heights. Mrs. W piked out about a quarter of the way up. Mr W got all the way to the top as he didn't wait for Mrs W in case he saw how high he was. Once at the top he too gave up as very windy, so not a thorough search conducted, so no luck for us today. I doubt if we will be brave enough to return. There was someone who was jogging up and down the stairs. I was passed quite a few times. No fear there.

Wow! A FTF a fair way from home. The climb was worth it for sure. Great views on a perfect day. FTF at 11.40am. We are a bit late for the games but we're still happy that TAS came second. We are here for a long weekend for the end of our school holidays.
Thanks for the cache The Morris
